Mountain top bliss!!
Mark & Lindy - your VRBO cabin was perfect for me. You thought of everything!! And were so kind and helpful. Wonderful queen bed, had the top 3 best showers of my life in your outdoor shower. Honestly I wasn’t ready to leave after just one night. I’ll be back for multiple nights someday soon and hope to meet my cousin there or bring a friend!

PERFECT for us
We were absolutely thrilled with our stay!! Charming, comfortable, super clean, quiet, with many areas to sit/hang out at, and gorgeous views from nearly every window. Hosts were wonderful and welcoming. Trail on the property is amazing, so much work went into it and it’s really something. It is such a privilege this wonderful hide away gets shared. We can’t wait to go back!! One note, I wouldn’t attempt the drive in a lower sedan.

Weekend Getaway
Couldn't have asked more for our weekend getaway. The house is exactly what we needed for a quiet weekend away from it all. Fit all of our needs perfectly. Marc and Lindy were very accommodating. They meet with us when we checked in for a brief introduction and let us know that they would be available at any time if we had any questions. The house is exactly as described. Sits on acres of beautiful, wooded property that backs up to the Jefferson National Forest. Even comes with its own hiking trail right out of the front door. If you want quiet and peaceful, this is it. They even opened their lovely home to our large dog. He had a great time sniffing out all of the deer that meander through the property. If you want an escape from it all, with good access to great hiking, don't hesitate to give this property a try.

Relaxing cabin stay
For anyone who wants some relaxation and quiet!! The drive back to the house was unique because of all the leaves covering the road. It was well kept and super clean. Used the kitchen which was well stocked. Comfortable bed and a lovely porch to enjoy the morning air. So peaceful you didn't want to leave. The hike around the place was just right for some exercise. The owners were welcoming and very friendly. Very helpful in providing info on what there is to do in the area.

About the host

Being avid backpackers,we desired to live as deep in the woods as was possible. So we started homesteading this property 23 years ago and love it so much that we thought that, perhaps, others would enjoy it as much as we do. So we built another cottage on the property and look forward sharing the experience.

Why they chose this property

Convenient to the nearby town of Wytheville but totally secluded. To access this property you must, first, find your way up the mountain. If you're the adventurous type and don't mind a drive up a well maintained dirt road , we think you will find it worth the effort. As you start up through a typical Appalachian holler you pass a by a few local residences but as you venture further up the road it turns into more of a National Forest type setting. We are located 1.6 miles off the main road on a private, gated property and situated on a ridge top with incredible views of the nearby mountains.

What makes this property unique

Depending on the time of year, you can enjoy long hikes in the adjoining Jefferson National Forest, forage for wild mushrooms, visit a Paleozoic fossil site just up the trail or explore the Appalachian Trail on the next ridge over. In the spring the rhododendron and mountain laurel are spectacular. The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 30 miles away and the tallest mountain in Virginia, Mt Rogers with Grayson Highlands State Park and the famous wild ponies are also close by. You also might like to check out the Virginia Creeper Trail where you can rent a bike and spend the day coasting down an old railroad grade through spectacular scenery. The nearby town of Wytheville is only 8 miles distant and boasts two micro breweries the newly renovated Milwald Theater, several interesting museums and many eclectic eateries.
