About the host
Hosted by Margeaux Boles
Hello! Our names are Margeaux and Elijah, from Key Largo, Florida and Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. We have lived in Maggie Valley (just a few minutes from the cottage) for around 5 years now and absolutely love it! The Red Fern Cottage is our first home purchase and we are so excited to share it with you! Margeaux is a wedding and portrait photographer and Elijah manages a local spa and wellness center. We both enjoy the outdoors, hiking, camping, swimming, stargazing, foraging, etc. and we think Maggie Valley is the perfect place for all of that! Though Margeaux has been a business owner for 17 years with photography, this is our first time being vacation rental hosts and we strive to provide an excellent experience.
Why they chose this property
The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. We often have turkeys, rabbits, elk, bears, bobcats, and the usual squirrels and birds wandering through that you can watch right from the front porch. Our favorite spot is sitting in the rocking chairs just enjoying the view and the beautiful weather! Located right off the main road in Maggie Valley, it's a great location just minutes from everything you could want to do in the area! The main road is always plowed in the winter when there's snow/ice allowing for easy year round access, no 4x4 needed (unlike some of these mountain cabins). The neighbors are always happy to help if you need anything and couldn't be nicer!
What makes this property unique
The Red Fern Cottage was built in 1956 and is one of the original Leatherwood Cottages. It was used as part of the motel until around 2010 when they were split up and sold as individual units. We purchased it in Feb 2023 and have lovingly renovated it to bring it to modern times by putting in a new kitchen, appliances, LVP flooring in the bedroom, new tile in the bathroom, new toilet and sink, etc. It has been thoughtfully designed it for optimal comfort and efficiency, giving you everything you need in a small package! Our hearts were put into making the cottage be what we envisioned our little dream vacation home to be, adding tons of personal touches. Featuring unique decor and amenities, we strive to be more than just another generic vacation rental, the goal is to be your home away from home! Many of the neighbors who own the other cottages remember coming here with their parents as children and spending many wonderful summers at the cottages. We hope to continue that tradition with a new generation of guests making memories in Maggie Valley and we want The Red Fern Cottage to be a part of that! We are so proud of all our hard work and we hope you enjoy it as well!
