About the host
Hosted by Melinda Katchur
Melinda and Alan Katchur own and operate Grand Mesa Haven and reside full time in the adjacent property to the south. They love the outdoors and moved from the front range to enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife on the Western Slope. This picture was taken by a friend overlooking the Gunnison Gorge while on a RZR ride in Peach Valley, about 30 minutes from the property.
Why they chose this property
Grand Mesa Haven is a spacious one bedroom bungalow that has just been fully remodeled. The open concept living space boasts a huge kitchen that is fully stocked for gourmet meals and a table for four with fabulous views of the San Juan Mountains. The bar between the kitchen and living area allows the chef to interact with the rest of the crowd while cooking and watch the game on the large flat screen in the living room. There is a game table in the corner of the living room that provides extra seating for meals or a game of poker. The 12x30 foot deck spans the entire south side of the cottage and is complete with a grill and umbrella table with seating for four. It sits on nearly 4 acres with incredible views of the San Juan mountains to the south and the Grand Mesa to the north. Very private, but close in proximity to a myriad of outdoor activities on the Grand Mesa and Gunnison Gorge Recreational Area. Downtown Cedaredge is only 15 minutes away with a full grocery store, liquor store and an adorable Main Street with several dining options and lots of cute shops. In the fall, Cedaredge hosts Applefest the first weekend in October with live music in the park; art, craft and food vendors set up on Main Street, a 5K and golf tournament and lots more! And the fall colors on the Grand Mesa are absolutely spectacular. Grand Mesa Haven is also a great spot to use as a base camp for hunters and fisherman! There is a 20x30 foot concrete parking pad with full hook ups for your RV for an additional $50 per night which will only be booked in conjunction with the rental of the property, so you can be assured it will be exclusively yours during your stay.
What makes this property unique
Very quiet and private with beautiful views of the landscape and wildlife. It is a wonderful place to visit year round for a quiet get away or to enjoy the great outdoors. In the winter there is snowmobiling, snow shoeing, crosscountry and downhill skiing within 30-45 minutes of Grand Mesa Haven. Spring and summer offer fishing, rafting, paddleboarding and more on the Gunnison River and Grand Mesa which is the world's largest flat-top mountain, bursting with over 300 lakes sprawled across 500 square miles of striking terrain. Thousands of trails for hiking, mountain and road biking, horseback riding, ATVing and sight seeing all over the Western Slope. A few must sees... the Black Canyon of the Gunnison just outside of Montrose, The National Monument in Grand Junction and of course the Grand Mesa. Fall brings the turning of the aspens, with Color Weekend on the Grand Mesa the end of September and Applefest in Cedaredge the first weekend in October. Cedaredge Applefest has been celebrating area fruit growers annually since 1977. Festivities include live music, art, craft & food vendors, 5 Alarm Chili Cookoff, Golf Tournament, Car, tractor & motorcycle show, Pinup Competition, a 5K run, and tons more! The event brings together local businesses, apple orchards, artists, musicians, 160+ vendors, and over 20,000 event attendees.
