We are Eric & Amy Walport, and the story of our family and our land is one of transformation, stewardship, and a deep love for this place. After the 1994 Northridge earthquake and subsequent fire destroyed our family’s original home—but left us safe—you could say the next chapter began. Our family relocated to the Applegate Valley, where Bruce & Judy (Eric’s parents) ran a cattle ranch for years.

Eric grew up on that ranch, worked in vineyards in his youth, pursued a degree, then returned home with Amy, to the land next door. Together we purchased the property and set our sights on turning a retired cattle ranch into a thriving vineyard and winery as well as a welcoming place for guests.

We believe in sustainable agriculture, natural farming practices, and treating our soil, vines and land with respect. Each bottle of our ultra-boutique wine is a rare expression of that care — production runs from 40 to 100 cases per varietal each year.

When you stay with us, you’re not just staying in a vacation rental — you’re becoming part of our story, connecting with the land we love, and experiencing the personal care, passion and authenticity that we bring both to our wine and to your stay.

We look forward to sharing the warm and peaceful rhythms of the vineyard with you

Why they chose this property

The Applegate Valley is a place of deep beauty and subtle power — nestled among forested hills, protected from the full blast of coastal winds, shaped by the meandering Applegate River, and blessed with rich soils and a rare terroir that underpins our vineyard.

When Amy and I returned to the area, we knew the setting offered more than great wine country — it offered profound tranquility, endless views, and a sense of escape. Here, guests can step into a world where time softens, birdsong replaces traffic hum, and the horizon is framed by vine rows and woodland.

We chose this as our home for its authenticity — working-family farms, boutique vineyards, a community that values stewardship of the land. Staying here means waking to sun-lit vines, using forest trails, appreciating the gentle cadence of rural Southern Oregon, and being close enough for restaurants and the wine trail, but far enough for quiet and reflection. We hope you’ll feel how special this area is — because we do, every day.

What makes this property unique

This property is a truly rare offering in Southern Oregon — more than 60 acres of diverse, untouched natural beauty complemented by hand-curated vineyard blocks. It has an exceptional blend of open fields, mature forests that have never been logged, fruit orchards, seasonal streams, and small ponds that create a serene, living landscape.

At Walport Family Cellars, we also produce ultra-boutique wines (typically 40–100 cases per varietal), and your stay places you in the heart of that craft. Vineyards stretch across the fields, forests give way to wide pastoral views, and quiet water features create peaceful places to wander or reflect.

This property is designed to offer privacy, beauty, and an authentic experience: morning light filtering through the oaks, evenings spent overlooking the vines, and the calm that comes from being surrounded by nature at scale. Whether exploring the trails, relaxing by the pond, or enjoying a glass of our wine at sunset, guests find a setting that is both refined and deeply connected to the land.
