About the host
Hosted by Greg Bier
My family starting coming to Estes Park when my brother and I were very young. Originally, our parents brought us to stay at the YMCA of the Rockies in one of the small cabins there. That was about 50 years ago! Owning a family cabin in Estes Park was our family's dream. Bierhaus Cabin fulfilled that dream about 28 years ago. This is now where my wife and I, our kids, and our grandkids, comes to both adventure and relax.
Our family has taken on most adventures available in the area. Overnight backpacking, extensive hiking, cross country skiing, 4 wheeling, trout fishing, horseback riding, skiing at El Dora and, over the years, we have seen nearly all of the wildlife that calls the area home (moose, mule deer, turkeys, bears, coyote, bobcats, etc). The last animal still on our list bucket list is the elusive mountain lion sighting. We have even had a bear break into our truck on night.
Why they chose this property
Bierhaus sits near the Big Thompson River, near the base of Giant Track Mountain and looks across at Eagle Cliff Mountain and the continental divide. It is in a very quiet and private 12 acre community across the road from Rocky Mountain National Park.
While our piece of property is small it has a large history. There is a mineral claim on it from 1875. It was once part of the Dunraven Estate. If you read the history of Estes Park you'll see how it all fits in.
The HOA has rules in place to ensure the serenity and relaxing atmosphere among residents and guests. There are no pets, motorcycles, ATVs, trailers, or RVs allowed in the area. Events, parties, and loud music are strictly prohibited. Quite hours are from 9 pm to 8 am. There is absolutely no smoking allowed anywhere (not outside the cabin, not inside the cabin, not in the neighborhood). This policy is due to the higher than normal fire risk in the mountains. Bears also frequent this area so it is imperative that no food be left in your car or on the deck.
You can sit on the sofa and look out the picture window and watch elk and deer stroll by (this is actually very common). Enjoy a serene and relaxing stay or be as active as you want on the many trails of RMNP. Bierhaus is in a very quiet family community with very private grounds you can walk around and enjoy the wildlife and scenery. The remote community sits directly adjacent to the Big Thompson River and you cannot miss the cascading noise of the river from the deck.
If you are looking for a remote place to work, this is it! With reliable WiFi, the ability to stream video meetings (or Netflix), you can do your work early in the day and then head out the door for a walk into RMNP. The cabin has a dedicated workspace in a room upstairs with a desk and extra computer monitor. You may find that once you arrive with your groceries you may not need your car again for several days.
What makes this property unique
LOCATION! There simply isn't a better location anywhere near Estes Park and RMNP for a family to relax and enjoy the mountains. Bierhaus Cabin sits in a very quiet family-oriented neighborhood just outside Estes Park. This means that during peak season you can avoid the congestion of town yet be in RMNP in no time at all. Bierhaus is its own trail head...there is NO NEED to drive into Rocky Mountain National Park and find a trail head parking space.
The cabin is on the western side of Estes Park so you can avoid any Estes Park traffic by driving to the Beaver Meadows Entrance/Visitors Center of RMNP or, instead, walking a few minutes into the wildlife hub of RMNP, Moraine Park (see map). Moraine Park is one of the most common areas visited by elk and mule deer. The RMNP shuttle bus stops at the Moraine Park Discovery Center & Museum during the summer. You can use the shuttle to get to many other trail heads further into the park. No need to find a parking spot at a crowded trail head!
There is a playground approximately 100 yards from the cabin for kids to enjoy. Beyond the cabin is the Big Thompson River. Bierhaus Cabin has everything a family needs to simply sit back and relax and enjoy the mountains. You may find that once you arrive with your groceries you may not need your car again for several days.
