About this property

Mountain cabin w/hot tub & fire pit

The Space:

Snow-dusted pines whisper as you step onto the wraparound deck, the crisp mountain air filling your lungs while the scent of pine needles lingers around the porch. Inside, vaulted ceilings and expansive windows draw the landscape into the living room, letting daylight spill over the fireplace even on shorter winter days. After a day of hiking, you can soak in the hot tub, feeling warm water contrast with the cool night sky as stars flicker above.

Sleeping arrangements

- Loft bedroom with two queen beds (open to the main space, no door)

- Main level bedroom with a queen bed

- Second main level bedroom with a queen bed

- Basement family room with a queen bed, a twin bed, and a sleeper sofa (open‑concept, ideal for kids or families)

- Additional sleeper sofa in the living room for extra guests

Living spaces

The main living area centers around a rustic indoor fireplace, farmhouse‑inspired wood beams, and a Smart TV for movie nights. Wi‑Fi is available throughout the home, though the remote setting can make the signal slower or spotty, so downloading content ahead of time is recommended. A dedicated workspace lets you blend a bit of remote work with mountain relaxation.

Kitchen & dining

A full kitchen with ample counter space and an island bar invites group cooking and casual meals. The large dining table seats everyone comfortably, making shared dinners after outdoor adventures easy and enjoyable. A washer and dryer are on‑site for longer stays or winter gear cleaning.

Outdoor living

The wraparound deck, covered porch, and screened porch provide multiple ways to soak in the scenery year‑round. A hot tub offers warm soak sessions against crisp air, while the fire pit invites quiet conversation under the stars. A grill is available for use when weather permits, and the deck is swept before each arrival, though natural leaves and pollen may still appear.

Neighborhood & activities

Great Cacapon sits in the Appalachian Mountains, offering nearby parks, hiking trails, and scenic drives. A short drive brings you to Berkeley Springs, known for historic hot springs, charming galleries, and local dining options.

Pet policy

The cabin is pet‑friendly for dogs, with a family‑oriented atmosphere. Cats are not allowed due to allergies.

Perfect for

Family reunions, group getaways, winter retreats, or any occasion where you want to slow down, gather together, and savor the mountain atmosphere.

Very remote and quiet

Overall, a good place to stay if you're looking for remote and private. There's a few things that needs work. Fire pit is nice in the evenings. If you're going and planning on cooking, take a decent size cutting board. There is only a very small one available. Property manager is very good with communication.

Not as expected

House was okay but didn’t really make for an enjoyable trip. The cleanliness of the house left a lot to be desired. The hot tub was very dirty and had a green foam on the top. The fire pit out back was full of trash as well as the yard around it.

Not recommended

When we arrived the place was messy and there was dog poop on the floor. The microwave didn't work and the internet was out. We were woken up in the mornings by some critter in the walls. Wouldn't recommend. I asked the owner to try the place one more time at a discounted rate to see if it improved but was told no because its a popular place.

Just Okay

It serves its purpose, but we didn't really enjoy our stay. Overall cleanliness wasn't very good and the hot tub was filled with foam (which the property manager insisted was normal). Some things in the house manual didn't make sense. It also wasn't disclosed that the basement doors that lead to the lower patio/hot tub area are held closed by a wooden board (didn't seem very safe to us). Personally wouldn't choose this place again.

I was very very dissapointed. It was important to stay at a cabin that had a fireplace and a hot tub...the cabin being clean and having adequate heat, should be a given! We were told on day 2 of our 3rd day there, they finally sent somebody out to fix the hot tub and we at the pellet fireplace has been broken and parts were on order. There was no heat in one bedroom and in mine, once it heated up, it smelled of strong dog feces, as though imbedded in the cracks of the tiles and I felt nauseous. I took a hot towel and tried cleaning my bedroom floor which seemed to stir up the feces even more. The LR couch was filthy and stained and made you feel yucky to sit on. The kitchen wasn't adequately equipped, no simple spatula, pans burnt beyond being able to be used and teflon scratched off other pans, which is dangerous to use. I went into town and had to buy pans and spatulas. After telling the owners all of this they offered me an insultingly low refund, which I feel my refund, being VERY generous, should have been no less than 50% of what I paid. I would have honestly rather had relaxed and stayed home, instead of being there. Had I been informed I would have no fireplace and basically no hot tub, I would NOT have rented this cabin.

The stay wasn't so bad. Had a few issues but could overlook most. We texted and ask if we could check in about 20 minutes early and was told that was no problem. We got there at 3:55 but the cleaners were still there. We waited outside but they invited us in while they finished up. Very sweet women. Once again this was not a big deal at all. Definitely want a clean cabin! They make it clear you will be charged a fee for late check out but they don't offer to make any adjustments for you for the fact the cabin was not ready for check in. We also rented this place because it's secluded. I have a 6 year old autistic daughter who is super loud and an eloper so I definitely was searching for something secluded and found this place (wanted it to where if she escaped there wouldn't be traffic). The third day there, we were gone all day and when we returned that night about 5 I received a texted 30 minutes later about a noise complaint. The listing says secluded and I get it's in a secluded area but they need to be specific there is two houses right beside it. After receiving the complaint we no longer enjoyed our stay. We felt like we were walking on egg shells. We tried to stay gone the whole next day but out all day with children is tiring especially doing it the day before all day as well. Will not book this cabin again. I will say the host was very responsive to all text and emails.

I live in DC with my wife and three young kids. I love camping/hiking, drinking (and sometimes brewing) great beer and wine, exploring new restaurants and shops, and traveling all over.

Why they chose this property

We spent years searching for the perfect getaway, and wanted to be close enough to DC that we could do a day trip. We fell in love with the area – and Mountain Maple cabin in particular. We love how cute and cozy our cabin is, and all the fun outdoor activities we can enjoy year-round. :)
