I enjoyed the train passing by, and watching the deer in the yard. The local tavern was great, I ate there every night. It was nice and cozy. Parking for my full sized pick-up track worked well. I will go back when I travel to the area to visit my son again.

Not like listing
The listing said the house had a pool and beach chairs which we were really looking forward too. The house only had a pool by the owner's house and it still had the cover on it. The owner said she recently had surgery and that's why it wasn't ready. The listing also said there was a couch, which there was not. A train goes by all hours of the night and the water in the shower smells very strong of iron. The owner was nice though and offered us a discount if we came back again.

I’m sorry that you were so disappointed. Part of that fault lies with VRBO as they had mixed the two listings that I have. I never stated there was a fold out couch . The Ranchhand house was not supposed to say 2 beds it was not supposed to say there was a pool. I don’t know how the listing added stuff I’ve never had, but it did and it combined my two listings. So I apologize this quaint rustic and very historic property was not to your expectations, but I have corrected the listing and will keep an eye on it to ensure that doesn’t happen again. It’s funny the VRBO people give it a lower rating( possibly due to the misrepresentation by the mixing of my listings) whereas Airbnb gives 5 stars consistently. Next time you should find a place that shows photos of the pool then you will know it for sure and I’m sure that the photos were accurate so a closer look would have revealed no couch. It is way too small for a couch. I hope your next vrbo rental can meet your expectations. We are constantly trying to provide exceptionally clean space with antiques and historic pieces while providing ultra plush towels and high quality linens. The water is seen by many as luxurious mineral baths. Minerals sometimes smell, but if you run the water for a few minutes it dissipates. Well water is mentioned in the listing.

Just one guy
So I was in the area to play in a softball tournament in Reno. I’m tired of staying at a casino and wanted a small place for just me out in a less populated area. This property had no ratings that I could see anyway, but booked it anyways for 4 nights knowing I wouldn’t be there much. I messaged Donna the on site manager, but no response. When I arrived I called and texted Donna to check in. Her son responded quickly with instructions and door code info. I briefly met them in the yard area and they were very nice folks. Donna had recent surgery which I assume why she was unable to respond to my other messages. They made sure to let me know that if I needed anything to let them know. Once inside everything was as I expected for what it was. I was unaware the water had a rotten egg smell or that you couldn’t drink the water, nonetheless, I had brought plenty of botttled water for softball so I used that. The shower gets a little more than lukewarm, it was hot when I was there (Memorial Day Weekend) so it was fine. That rotten egg smell though… The parking out front fit my Full size crew cab truck. I left lawn chairs and a cooler unsecured in the bed of the truck every night and nothing was disturbed. It’s a very quiet neighborhood… until the train goes by. They go by, and honk several times as the go through the intersection a block from the house. I think 4 went by between 9pm and 5am. It was rough… I’d stay again if it was 50 night. But it’s almost the same for a nice hotel.

I’m from the area and having been a commercial River guide for 35 years, I enjoy meeting people and helping guide them into having a relaxing exciting time. I like seeing the positive in people.
Why they chose this property
Great location close to all the ski resorts, but out of th traffic zones of Truckee and Reno. Quiet with lots of wildlife. Quiet but for Friday nite music at the NiteCap saloon which is walking distance. They only play til 11.
What makes this property unique
It’s a private road with lots of open spaces and lots of wildlife. The train does come by but it’s a nostalgic feeling as the the conductors like to get waves and try for unique sounds to get you to wave!
