Cozy coastal sanctuary steps from Waialea Bay. Tucked into lush tropical landscaping, Honu is a beautifully simple, single‑story retreat designed for serene beach‑side living. The home features a central living and dining area adjacent to a recently updated kitchen, with bedrooms and en‑suite bathrooms located at opposite ends to ensure privacy. Hardwood floors, expansive windows, and ceiling fans throughout enhance comfort and airiness.

Restful, private sleeping spaces. Two thoughtfully appointed air‑conditioned bedrooms anchor either side of the home—one with a king bed, the other with a queen and two twins—each with their own en‑suite bathroom. A handy washer/dryer is tucked into the hallway off the primary suite for added convenience.

Idyllic outdoor comforts + beach access. Step outside to a gated path leading to Waialea Bay, where swaying beach trees and fragrant tropical blooms set a tranquil scene. The outdoor shower with both hot and cold water is perfect for rinsing off after a day in the sun. Spot iconic local flora—Singapore plumeria, crown flowers, tiare gardenia, and fragrant pikake—right outside the primary bedroom for leis and island ambiance.

Thoughtful amenities, island‑aware style. While only the bedrooms are air‑conditioned, the home’s design—with ceiling fans, natural light, and breezy layout—keeps it comfortable and relaxed.

Incredible Home, Location, and Host!

We had a wonderful time in this absolutely stunning home. Our host Mary was the most accommodating host we have ever had on VRBO. She was so helpful and all the tips for restaurants and activities were spot on. The location is incredible and steps away from a one of the best beaches (Beach 69) on the island! The entire trip was magic! We will for sure return to this home or look to 2 Papayas for other locations they host. Book this place, you will not be disappointed.

Perfect Location

I am hesitant to share how perfect the location was (especially for me traveling with 3 teen girls), as it could make it harder to book in the future... The check in process, house and location were perfect. I didn't really want to leave the house and we walked to the beach multiple times a day. Loved everything about it.

Great Location

Home is located in great area for restaurants and beaches. One of the best beaches is just a couple hundred feet on sand path from back gate. Really quite neighborhood. Nice home with very helpful owner and property management company. Home has lots of beach gear for guest use. Made for a perfect week.

Best of the Big Island!

The Honu House was by far the nicest rental we’ve stayed at in HI. The location can’t be beat. The house was spotless upon our arrival, the beds comfy. Honu had everything we could want or need. Want gorgeous sunsets? This is the place to be! Fresh Meyers limes grown just outside the front door for your papayas and mai tais? They’re here! Perfect weather, lovely trade winds, adorable geckos on the lanai,so many birds! We will be back!

Nice beach property

We enjoyed our stay of 9 nights. The house's location can't be beat...steps away from a great, shaded beach and a very quiet neighborhood. The house has a great Hawaiian feel and had all amenities we could need, especially with kitchen /cooking and beach supplies. Beds and living spaces are comfortable. Staff at 2Papayas is wonderful, friendly, and very helpful. We loved the nice welcoming touches upon arrival. No air conditioning, but the house was cool enough at night and listening to the waves and birds at night and morning felt like a real retreat!

The perfect spot for two couples or a family of 4-5.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week with another couple. We loved the layout of the house. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and is on the opposite sides of the main living room and kitchen, so it feels separated and private. The balcony is lovely and the grounds are beautiful. It’s a two minute walk to the most beautiful secluded bay. The beach has soft sand, plenty of shade and incredible snorkeling. One of our favorite features is the outdoor shower, which has warm water! The house is beautifully decorated and Mary is a dream to work with. Very communicative and accommodating! We will definitely be back!

We stay with them every year. I'm not sure how many times we've stayed at Honu House, but it's in the double digits at this point. The house is spotless, well-stocked, and very comfortable.We super appreciate the fragrance-free cleaning and laundry products. Any minor issues are handled immediately. The location is unbeatable. We barely left the house/beach in our 3-week stay.

No more resorts for us

This lovely home sits minutes from the beach. The kitchen is well-equipped with new appliances. The bedrooms are private and the lanai is cozy...it's where I fell asleep every night listening to the waves. The yard is pleasant and there is an outdoor shower area. The decor is laid-back, upscale, and beachy which kept me from missing a resort altogether. We had space and the convenience of a carport. The beach is shady and less busy than the neighboring Hapuna. Great communication with host.

While Hona isn’t directly on the water it was a calm and quiet garden oasis, and a 1 minute walk on a shady path to the beach. The beds were comfortable and we didn’t need to use the A/C during our stay. Mary was very attentive and responsive. It was a lovely week!

Amazing 4th Stay - Longtime Repeat Clients

We have also stayed at least three times at the Ehu Kai house, twice at the Kolea house, and once at the Blue Makai house. As always, the house was perfect and the 2Papayas crew was friendly & helpful. Staying at Beach 69 with 2Papayas is our go-to relaxing vacation. The beach is stunning, with mild to no surf, snorkeling, and plenty of shade. Honu House is perfectly set up for families or two groups traveling together. The kitchen is well-equipped, the beds are very comfortable, and everything is spotless. My favorite feature of staying with 2Papayas is their dedication to using unscented cleaning and laundry products. Vacation rentals often reek of highly scented cleaning products, air fresheners, scented trash bags, dryer sheets, etc. At Honu House, and at the other 2Papayas properties we've stayed at, all you smell is the scent of the plumeria and gardenia being carried on the ocean breeze. We are booked to come back to Honu House paradise in six months.

We live full time in Northern California, and began to visit the Big Island in 2015. It's an easy flight from SFO and it's a spot our kids love to come to.

Why they chose this property

We were drawn to this property for its quiet location just steps from the beach. We had rented houses nearby and loved being able to walk back and forth to the beach as need be. It is so relaxing not to have to get into the car very often.

What makes this property unique

It has an easy, relatively sandy entry into the water. The snorkeling and paddle boarding is great when it's calm; my kids tell me the surfing is great when it's not. Sitting on the beach with a cup or coffee in the morning or a drink at sunset is magical.
