About this property
Water in the Desert!/Plaza-7min/National Forest-4min/3BR/Pets/Unique & Magical!
Our double-adobe home on the Tesuque River in Santa Fe is cool in summer and warm in winter. Enclosed broad lawns, gardens, and our large meadow allow children and dogs to roam freely but safely. With 3 fireplaces, we offer the unusual combination of country living with complete tranquility and privacy and the ability to be in the center of a world-class city in about 7 minutes. Enjoy our chef's kitchen, listen to the creek, hike, play, relax. Make new memories at our unique, family-friendly place.
The Space
The main house has two bedrooms, each with en suite baths. The primary bedroom boasts a wood-burning fireplace and French doors leading out to the back lawns and gardens. The guest bedroom has a patio door leading out to a large, enclosed meadow and the river. An additional outdoor covered portal with a daybed allows you to relax, unwind, and fall asleep to the sound of the river.
The third bedroom is located in the attached casita (guest house) which can be accessed either from inside the main home or through its separate outside entrance and parking. It has a full bath, a living /dining/kitchen area with a sleep sofa, wood burning fireplace, and French doors leading out to its private patio. The casita can be as private or as much a part of the main house as you would like.
The great room with soaring 11 ft. beamed ceilings and a wood-burning fireplace is a perfect place to dine in or entertain over the holidays. Our well-stocked chef’s kitchen comes with spices, cooking oils, and All-Clad pans. French doors lead out to a 500 sq. ft. covered portal, with outdoor dining and lounging areas. There is a vegetable/herb garden adjacent to an additional outdoor seating area, with a commercial BBQ and entertainment firepit.
Our home is personally and eclectically curated from our travels all over the world in the film business. A welcome basket with wine, locally made chocolates, and New Mexico pinon coffee will greet you when you walk in. Soft 600-thread count linens and warm duvets will allow you to sleep in quiet comfort.
The property is enclosed so that children and pets can roam about freely. There are benches along the river to enjoy everything from coffee to cocktails. With such a country feel, it is only a 7-minute drive to the Santa Fe Plaza, Canyon Road, shops, and museums. It is a 10-minute drive to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods and a 5-minute drive to the world-famous Santa Fe Opera.
There is a lovely hike right outside our door, leading to spectacular sunset views. Major hiking /biking trails are only 5-10 minutes away, and Ski Santa Fe is a 25-minute drive from the front door to the base lodge. Whether you are looking for a carefree family vacation or a quiet sophisticated magical retreat for nature lovers and bird watchers, our home wears many hats. Whether it’s the holidays or every day, our country estate is enchanting 365 days a year! Please feel free to contact us with any questions; we will be happy to oblige.
Come and experience the magic!
Guest access
The whole house and grounds are yours to enjoy, with the exception of the two small owner's storage and tool sheds.
Other things to note
There are 3 wood-burning fireplaces, 4 televisions, Sony AV 5.1 stereo system with Definitive Technology Speakers, Chef's Kitchen, Viking Range and Microwave, All-Clad pots and pans, professional barbecue grill, Firepit, 500 sq. ft. covered outdoor living/dining area, fruit trees, and benches to relax on by the river. We have a collection of board games, as well as bocce, ping-pong, volleyball, and badminton equipment.
Neighborhood highlights
There's a whole lot to do around here besides kicking back and doing nothing but chilling by the Tesuque or in the backyard on the grass.
The house is located at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains which are part of the 1.5 Million acres of the Santa Fe National Forest, within the boundaries of the traditional village of Tesuque, on an original section of the Old Spanish Trail (the road connecting Santa Fe and Taos since the early 1600s!). As the Tesuque River runs through the property, children and pets must always be supervised. It is 1 mile to the Post Office, the excellent El Nido Italian restaurant, and the unique Tesuque Village Market, a gathering spot for the community and celebrity hideaway; great for breakfast/lunch/dinner and a friendly bar. It is 1 mile to Bishop’s Lodge Auberge Resort (named Best in the West 2022 by Travel&Leisure) with its bar and restaurant and horseback riding. It is a 30-minute drive from the house to the base of Ski Santa Fe, our fantastic local mountain, and about a 1.5 hour beautiful drive up to Taos Ski Valley. We love to take "the high road" up to Taos and drive back along the Rio Grande. In Spring and Summer, raft or kayak the Rio Grande. There are sections for novice, intermediate, and advanced river-runners and numerous rafting companies to guide you. In the National Forest, the full Winsor Trail for hikers is 22.8 miles long. 1 mile from the house, it begins at the end of Big Tesuque Canyon and ends at Winsor Creek Campground up the mountain. Mountain bikers consider the 10-mile descent from the Ski Basin to Bishops Lodge Rd a classic must-ride for two wheels. It is a 5-minute drive to the world-famous Santa Fe Opera and 4 miles to the Tesuque Casino. Plus, we are 7 minutes by car from the Plaza and the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe - "the city different". There, you will find world-class food, art, music, and entertainment in a city made for walking.
Getting around
The house has space for 4 vehicles in the carport. There is no public transportation other than Uber. In the winter, 4wd is advisable as we do get snow.

About the host
Hosted by Anthony Mark
We will do all we can, along with our property manager, who lives full-time just up the road, to make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. A bit about us...we moved our family from busy Los Angeles to temperate, bucolic Santa Fe over 18 yrs ago to get away from the hustle and bustle of an urban environment without sacrificing the sophistication, the culture, or the culinary options. We are both in the film industry, and NM has become one of the major hubs for Film and TV production...(think Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul) ..thus the move here. Almost 20 yrs later, we haven't regretted that decision one bit!

What makes this property unique
What makes our property unique? Water in the desert! We chose this highly unusual property on a small river in the middle of the desert southwest because it reminded us of our roots back east in New York and New England. We love the unusual combination of country living with complete tranquility and privacy and the ability to be in the center of town in about 7 minutes. The fact that the property has so many green spaces that are enclosed allowed us to raise our child (now in college) and numerous dogs with the confidence that they could roam freely without getting into too much trouble! Our home is double adobe, making it warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
