About this property

Spacious 5 Bedroom home on Westside of Block Island

New Updates* This spacious octagon house is located on the west side of Block Island. We Have AC and WI FI.
The lower level includes a master bedroom with a king size bed and full bath. There is also a second bedroom with a queen size bed and the laundry facilities.
On the upper level which is an open floor plan, has a modern kithchen, living room with a large flat screen tv, full bathroom and 3 bedrooms. The bedrooms include 1 queen size bed, and 2 bunkrooms both with full and twin size bunks.
Outside we have an amazing enclosed outside shower with hot and cold water. The two large wrap around decks are great for entertaining, grilling, and relaxing either in the bright sunshine up stairs or cool shade on the lower level. We Do Not supply bed linens or towels. We do have pillows and quilts in all bedrooms. We have a 7 night minimum in July and August - Sunday thru Sunday and a 3 night minimum in the Off Season. Owners have a 2nd home on this 2.5 acre property. The owners are sometime are there on the weekends to prepare and maintain the property for your stay. They do not rent this property to anyone. Most of the time this home is vacant. They do not share any indoor or outdoor amenities with your rental .

Large house close to Champlins

Multiple bedrooms and air conditioning, plus a huge deck. Must bring your own sheets, towels and other supplies. Landlords responded and quickly fixed an unexpected plumbing problem.

Another beautiful week on the Block

We loved staying at the wonderful octagonal house on the west side. Its layout, big yard, great deck and location were perfect for playing relaxing and enjoying the various beaches as well as the spots in town that we like. We hope we can return!!

Great Vacation Home

My group and I had a great stay here. The place has plenty of space to sleep, a fully equipped kitchen, a grail and an amazing deck. The yard is very big and perfect to set up some outdoor games and hangout. Communication with Susan was very easy, she was accessible and very pleasant.

Great for a family vacation!

We stayed here with our grown children and grandchildren. Five bedrooms allowed for personal space for all so this house was ideal. The setting is beautiful and the house was clean. The furnishings are a bit dated, but comfortable. Communication with the hosts was excellent. They were quick to reply and helpful. The location is quiet and easy to get to. We would stay here again.

House was uncleanly overall. Dishes had a funky smell to them. Previous resident left food in lobster pot on stove. Master bedroom downstairs smelled like there was a sewer leak recently. Massage chair in living room did not work and had exposed wires. Deck chairs were broken, while owner had new ones in wrapped in plastic in basement. Deck was nice and grill was clean.

Awesome Family Vacation!

My husband and I rented the house and invited our families. We absolutely loved the spacious house - especially the open kitchen and wrap around decks. It was a quick drive to the beach and plenty of grass area for the kids. The house has plenty of room for everyone and on site laundry which is a huge plus. We cooked the entire trip for 10 people and found everything we needed in the kitchen to accommodate the process. Susan was very friendly and accommodating as well!

Block Island House

House was clean and had a large open air conditioned living/kitchen/dining room that held all 9 of us comfortably. The beds were comfortable and we appreciated the cotton quilts provided. Location is great, along a dirt road that meanders out to the ocean and large grassy yard- good for kids. Split units helped with inherent dampness on lower level; the owners fixed the dryer as it was clogged up, and a light on the deck. Could use more wastebaskets, more forks, and the bathtub drain didn't hold. We loved Block Island and had a great visit!

Spring Off Soundings 2023 - Team Magan

House is exactly as advertised. Beds are comfortable and the house is spacious enough for 10. We had a very nice stay. No Wi-Fi and cell service (regardless of your provider) is very weak. Was not an issue for us as we came to the island to sail and unplug. I only mention this if you plan to work remotely as I often do.

Spacious Stay on Block

Our family and friends stay at the house for a week in July. The location was perfect for us as we had our boat at Champlins Marina, which was very close! The house is spacious and was perfect for our 3 teenage children for each of them to have a friend and we had another couple as well. There was tons of space for everyone. Each room has an individualized AC unit, which is amazing. There were a few issues that were typical of older houses and the owners were very prompt with taking care of them. The grounds of the house are huge! Perfect for a family gathering. The wrap around porch is also very large and we did some stargazing out there! The house is a mix of modern updates and old farmhouse feel, but it had everything we needed. The outdoor water pressure is a really strong...fair warning! :)

Ok stay

We visited over memorial day weekend last year. Pros: Nice location, short drive to all. Unique house. The bedrooms were a good set up for families. Cons: The front door did not lock, which seemed like a significant safety concern. The smoke detectors were detached and sitting on a table. Outdoor shower was not operational, we were told this was because it was not yet the summer season when we asked. Do not walk barefoot on the deck, the kids had their feet full of tiny splinters after being out there one afternoon. The sectional was not attached in the middle and moved each time we sat down. There is a non operational, bulky massage chair in the living room which seemed an odd addition. Mid way through our stay one of the owners asked us not to park in the driveway but to park on the grass because it was their "pet peeve" - happy to do it but that is probably something they should note to renters upon check in because it feels rude to just park on someone's grassy lawn otherwise. Overall it was a decent house but for the money and concerns will try somewhere else next time.

Large and spacious

The house fit our needs being a party of 7. Our biggest issue was the dampness especially in the basement. There was so much condensation around the toilet we thought it was leaking. We put a towel around it to absorb it the whole week. The small dehumidifier in the hall way closet was not sufficient for the entire downstairs. It was not vented outside so all the hot air it produced made it even hotter inside. Many of the appliances half worked like the gas grill, toaster & electric skillet. We were able to get buy but you could tell it was a rental house. The location was further from town than we would have liked and cell service and internet was sporadic at best. The beds were not comfortable. The couch was a sectional but the individual pieces were not attached to each other so they moved around and separated when you sat on it. Overall we made the best of it but I thought for the price we paid the accommodations would have been better. The pictures looked nice but didn’t convey the true experience.

Mediocre Stay for

Overall our trip at this location was just mediocre. While the location, the size, and outdoor space met our needs, there were many issues throughout our trip that made things stressful. There was a terrible strong musty smell on the first level. Two of the bedrooms are on the first level so our first night of sleep was difficult. Thankfully we were able to open the windows and get fresh air into the house. We had an issue with mice in the kitchen of the house. We are not naive to the idea that a mouse might be in the basement, but having one in the kitchen eating our snacks was alarming. The owner gave us a mouse trap and the mouse was caught. The fact that we had to catch a mouse on our vacation was certainly not enjoyable. The most challenging part of the trip was having the owner of the house (staying in a garage apartment) on the premises without us knowing before hand. We found out once we had already arrived. If this information was listed in the Vrbo ad, we would not have rented. This information absolutely should have been divulged ahead of time. We rented a house for the privacy and felt that this was compromised given that the owner came over more than once to tell us to turn the ACs on to help the dampness and also accused us of “touching the WiFi”. We consider ourselves very respectful and clean renters and didn’t like the constant feeling that we were being watched. The house could use a deep clean and some maintenance to make it more enjoyable for renters.

Such a beautiful island. The people and the landscape were all amazing. Getting things there isn’t easy, part of the beauty however, We wished we didn’t have to cart sheets and towels . It was a lot !

Great family getaway!

The "octagon house" is a terrific spot for a family vacation on Block Island. I was a little concerned about the location initially but it is actually nice to be away from the most crowded areas and have a spacious yard to hang out in. The Oar and BI Oyster Bar are only about 5-10 min drive. We had a couple of minor issues with the house when we arrived and the host/owners were extremely responsive. As others have commented - the outdoor shower is wonderful. Would definitely stay here again!! Thank you Mark and Susan!

Family Vacation

Plenty of room for our 4 adults and 4 teenagers. Nice, quiet location away from the hustle and noisy town life yet close to beautiful beaches and a short ride to town.

Why they chose this property

Our home is a great location, If you want to be away from all the hustle and bustle of in town. We are located on the west side of the island , which is considered New Harbor. Its only a few miles from town, but its quiet and peaceful. If you have young children , it is a great location. We have a huge yard, where they would be safe around the yard and riding bike etc...
