Wonderful stay; great location, amenities and view! Our host greeted us upon arrival and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely stay here again.
From the moment we were graciously greeted, we thoroughly enjoyed all the little touches that made our stay wonderfully comfortable. Morning coffee on the front porch was a little piece of mountain heaven. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and the quiet of nature all around was relaxing.
Jim's property was excellent. He was present and ensured our stay had everything we needed and was happy to chat when we were around. The rooms were cozy and comfortable with everything we needed for the weekend.
Cozy basement, ping pong and hot tub are a great additions. Accommodating host met us the door.

A "basement" is a bit of a mis-characterization. Our home is on a steep hill, so the "ground" floor with patio, view, hot tub, etc. is where the guests reside. We live on the upper floor, which is actually the second story on the view side. No steps up or down for guests, which is great for handicapped people. A small portion of the ground level is cut into the hillside on the back side, which keeps that level even more cool and comfortable.
We had never stayed in this area before. My husband and our little dog Tucker enjoyed our stay here. The view from this beautiful home is amazing, just takes your breath away. Our hosts Jim and Karen were so helpful recommending things to do in the area and the delicious restaurants to choose from. Highly recommend this vacation getaway.
From communication prior to arrival right through departure, this was top notch!! The setting is absolutely gorgeous! Host was immediately available for any question. I will stay there again…hopefully for more than 1 night!!
I wanted to surprise my wife with a special getaway. The views from the hot tub and sitting in the rocking chairs were breathtaking. My wife and I also enjoyed playing games, air hockey, and darts inside too. We were amazed by the size of our area. We also did not expect a kitchen. It was the 24 hour getaway we needed and desired.
Host thought of everything for comfort and fun and lovely place - fountain, flowers, hot tub, fire pit, ping pong, tasteful decor, large elbow room property, ………. My wife, my little dog and I would definitely return. We needed to “get away from it all” - hit the jackpot. Not far from many mountain adventures and gorgeous places. Great place to just relax and hangout. Host and host dog - first class and easy communications. Great value pit stop.
Stunning location, beautiful property, spic-and-span clean and ALL the amenities...and a wonderful host who was attentive but not intrusive and gave us a great suggestion for brunch. What more could you want?!! We would truly recommend staying here. Oh, and the lighting on the house was so cool (not at all "Vegas,"). Share that with the wife, Jim! Haha!!
This home overlooks beautiful mountains. If the weather cooperates, there is a pristine hot tub to sit in while you enjoy the view. There is also a firepit and logs to burn as you sit and relax if you enjoy that. Nearby hikes include the Creeper Trail, also Backbone Rock Bridge is a great place to walk across. This would be a perfect retreat in the autumn and the location is great for stargazing. The owners are on location to answer any questions and there are two separate rooms in the downstairs area that can be rented. (As we sat outside at night, all I could think about was that this would be the perfect location for watching a meteor shower.)
Even though we had a very long drive and a bad back to get to Jim’s place well worth it to see he’s castle in purple lite up at night. The view was beautiful even in the rain. Perfect location for the At hikers. The rooms were perfect. He had everything you needed for us and out doggies. We are so coming back again to enjoy a whole weekend at his place. Highly recommend it if you and friends want a weekend get away. Also go to dinner in town! Food is great! Down home cooking

Thanks, Lonnie! So happy that you enjoyed your stay, brief though it was!

First impressions are everything, and Ken, my gracious host, really nailed it. This is my first experience renting a STR, and he made it easy. I can't say enough good things about The Southern Comfort Inn. My suite was decorated beautifully and was spotlessly clean and smelled so fresh. It had the charm of a French villa with the hospitality you only find in the mountains of Virginia. Staying there gave me the same feeling as staying with my grandparents years ago. Just warm, safe, snd cozy!
The highlight of my brief stay was enjoying a glass of wine in the hot tub while watching a gorgeous sunset over the Appalachian Mountains. Oh how I wish I had booked for longer! I definitely will be back, and I've already recommended it to others.
This is quite possibly the best place I've ever stayed, and was around the same price as a standard hotel!! I give Ken and his little Paradise 6 Stars out of 5!
