Built in 1930, Blue Camp is one of the few remaining original Vermont Camps
Relive those lazy days of yesteryear by the lake! This cozy 3-bedroom 1-bath seasonal camp on Malletts Bay holds all the charm and character of days gone by while including the comforts of home. Relax and watch the boats go by from the screened-in porch or take a dip in the lake off the private raft. The raft is also perfect for fishing or sunning. Blue Camp can sleep up to 8 (counting the sofa sleeper), although some guests enjoy sleeping on the screened porch for more of an outdoor experience. Limited dock space and mooring can be made available for access to your boat upon request when booking and when water levels are not too high. Fully equipped kitchen, dining area and living room with wood-stove for those cool nights. Quiet location is on a dead end dirt road within walking distance from the general store. For lakeside or Church Street dining, Burlington is accessible by bike (30-45 min on the community bike path), boat, or automobile (15 min). For the more adventurous, several zip lines are within 90 minutes and various restaurants are available on the NY side of Lake Champlain which can be crossed with your boat or by ferry. Bikes (4), kayaks (2), and paddle board are available for use. Other attractions include hiking trails, mountain climbing, museums, wineries, cruises on Lake Champlain, drive-in movie theatre, and more.

We loved this little camp, perfect spot on the lake and very nostalgic feeling. It has all of the necessary items and many comforts as well. It was a chilly weekend but the heating stove kept us toasty! Very easy to use with a remote. If we come when the weather is better we’d definitely use the kayaks and bikes. Loved our stay at Blue Camp!!!
The listing was accurate, pics and all. It wasn't spotless, which we kinda figured since it relies on other guests and is an older place. The weather sucked, but we made the best of it! Our last day was amazing though, and we loved the porch. Best part? We got to sit out there even though it rained.
The property was amazing and the decor made it feel very homey. Its location is in proximity to a lot businesses and recreational chances. Thank you for an amazing stay!!
Cozy & rustic lake house with amazing views & access to the lake! Great location to enjoy downtown Burlington, accessing great hiking trails & Stowe, VT within an hour. Host super responsive& helpful. We can’t wait to come back!
We had a great stay in the blue house. John was a great host and the location was perfect. Even when we had rain sitting on the screened in deck was so relaxing. Def will come back and recommend to anyone looking!
The blue cabin was a wonderful little retreat nestled right on Lake Champlain. The views were spectacular, the cabin was spotless and also has every amenity you could possibly think of, and then some! Communication with the renter was quick and easy and seamless. A total 10/10 experience. I would totally recommend this place!

Fabulous Porch View @ Blue Camp
We enjoyed Blue Camp's porch view of Mallets Bay, especially the sunrise views and watching the boats on the bay. It's in a quiet neighborhood and is well located for easy drives to the islands or mountains for hiking or Burlington for dining and shopping.
Sometimes these places sound too good to be true. Not the case here, perfect place for a quiet getaway, explore the beautiful Burlington area, including the lake. You can hike, bike, kayak or just chill in the serenity of the amazing screen porch. Everything you need is right there. The hosts do a wonderful job with the place. Thank you for a great stay.
I can’t say better things about my stay at the Blue Camp. My mom and I had a mother daughter trip here in late September. it’s absolutely picturesque and so so cozy. John is a wonderful human and host. There is an uncles number of things to do, and I really enjoyed riding the bikes on the property to the nearby islands. You will have the coziest beast time here. Already looking forward to coming back in the summer with friends and getting in the lake.
This cabin was truly the perfect getaway. The decor is lovely, the rooms are quaint, and the area is gorgeous. The biggest highlight is the porch facing the lake with the rocking chairs - you want to spend all day there. Highly recommend a stay here.
Very quaint with room for children to
Play and run. Had over family for the evening and a grandchild or two to play during the day. Tiny kitchen but adequate for meal prep as long as you don’t get too fancy. Quite a few dust bunnies but not really worrisome unclean. Hope to stay again. Would be lovely in winter, too if winterized .
What a cool old cabin! John was always responsive leading up to our stay and very kindly had the heater on for us since it was pretty cold and we arrived a few hours later than we planned due to a storm. Hope to come back again and for a longer stay to spend more time in the area and on the lake!
The house is a classic older lakehouse. The location is great - in a quiet area but accessible to Burlington with a short easy drive. There is no dock or outdoor patio but there is a lovely front lawn going down to the lake where you can put out lawn furniture if you want to sit out by the lake. The front screened porch is large and the view is beautiful. It could use a few upgrades to the mattresses and furniture but overall for the money it is a wonderful place for a quiet getaway with access to natural beauty and proximity to Burlington for shopping and restaurants. We would definitely recommend this rental.
My boyfriend and I stayed at Blue Camp for 3 nights and we truly enjoyed our stay. The view of Lake Champlain was gorgeous! The screened porch was perfect to enjoy coffee in the mornings. The cabin has all the amenities you wouldn't, including washer/dryer and kitchen appliances.
John was very pleasant, responsive, and helpful. Wonderful person to rent from. Great place to stay!
Our family had a fabulous time at the cottage. We were celebrating our sons 2023 UVM graduation. We enjoyed the convenience of the Lakehouse, being outside of the busy city of Burlington. It was a great transition from college to summer time.
Awesome. It should be noted that the bedrooms do not have ceilings so there is not sound privacy between the bedrooms. Otherwise it is a charming old fashioned lake-house with everything you need. Loved it. Beautiful view and a great porch!
I traveled to Vermont with my 17-year-old son mostly to look at university of Vermont but also just to enjoy being back in Vermont. I lived in Vermont for a few years 25 years ago. This was absolutely the perfect place for a visit. The screened in porch is amazing and the view of Malletts Bay so wonderful. We lucked out beautiful weather, but I think I would enjoy staying in this little cabin just as much with thunderstorms and snow storms using the woodstove and being cozy playing games. John is so friendly and helpful in every aspect. This is a charming place in a wonderful location and I highly recommend.
What a wonderful, well taken care of place for relaxation and recreation! So well equipped with anything you would ever want or need, even Canoes and Bicycles, lounge chairs and ping pong table, etc.
Gorgeous view onto the water, from the beautiful and very large screened in porch, with enough privacy to feel comfortable!
John, the owner, was quickly available when needed, helpful and friendly!
All was so nicely organized and clean.
Would definitely come back again!
Great location too, close to many good walking paths, restaurants and stores, even a Drive In Movie Theater.
Thank you, John, for making this unique camp
available to all those who need “some time away from it all” and a
“home away from home”!
Location was paramount in our visit. We went to Stowe fall Festival one day. Next went to Adirondack mountains in New York the next day. Then to White mountains in New Hampshire the following day.
Numerous visits to locations in Vermont. Lake Champlain holds many picture opportunities. The fall colors were the best we have ever seen and they were everywhere. Can't wait to return. John was a very gracious host and his home had all the basics and more. The screened in porch was restful for tea and snacks in the morning and evening.
Thank you, John
Location of the property was great. There was a lot of geese feces in the backyard. We weren’t really able to use the backyard.
We were asked to launder the linens before we left, but the dryer did not work it heated up, but the drum was not moving. So we had to take the linens and towels off property to get them cleaned.
The previous tenants probably didn’t do a decent job of cleaning it up and we made sure it was spotless, even cleaner than when we arrived before we left for the next tenants.
All and all great location. Great property, would stay there again.

Overall Cleanliness of Property
We really enjoyed the property itself. It was in a great area with easy access to both Burlington and other spots we visited in Colchester. The only issue we saw was that it was not advertised that the property was to be cleaned by the guests themselves. As everyone has a different standard of "clean" it is hard to judge what was actually cleaned before our arrival. It would help to have had this one aspect advertised on the Vrbo website ad itself before having to book this to find out. I am not sure if someone checks the properties, but when we arrived there was no sheets on the beds and only the comforters which is not appealing as a paying customer as I paid a good amount of money to stay there for 3 days. As I stated, everyone has a different standard when it comes to cleanliness and knowing now that customers are responsible to clean everything from the linens to the floors to the bathroom is just not as appealing. Other than that, we had no issues and the house itself was very cute and well kept for an older camp. We would definitely love to stay there again just some suggestions for the future.

Perfect Summer Vacation Spot on Lake Champlain
The Blue Camp is situated in an ideal location right on Mallets Bay in Lake Champlain. It is off a quiet side street, yet within walking distance of a general store, ice cream stand, pizza place, and a nice little pub. Also, the Island Line bike trail and a Drive-In movie theater are a short distance away. The cabin is well maintained and the owner is super responsive to any requests or needs.
There is plenty of fun to be had on the lake also. The cabin comes with kayaks and a paddle board, as well as a swimming platform to enjoy the lake from. I am a return visitor to this cabin, and have nothing but good things to say about the owners who seem to add a new great feature each year.
In response to comments from others about the weeds in the lake, 2016 was an extremely low water year for Lake Champlain, which probably made them seem worse last year. Normally they are not an issue until you get a little ways out from shore and they don't bother you when you are out at the swimming platform unless you dive deep.
Also, related to the spider comment below.. I stayed at the cabin the week before that vacationer, and I think the "spider issue" was a little exaggerated. I did not see any spiders at all inside the cabin. There were some webs on the outside screened in porch, but the screens were certainly not "covered" with them.
Bottom line is I highly recommend the Blue Camp for some great summer fun. I will certainly be returning there again. Hope this review helps folks out!
