FALL IN WALLA WALLA WINE COUNTRY — A THREE-KING HOUSE WITH A HOT TUB, A FIREPLACE AND TWO OVENS

There is a particular kind of autumn trip to Walla Walla. Harvest is on, the tasting rooms are pouring the good stuff, and the evenings get cold enough that a hot tub stops being a novelty and becomes the reason you book. Maybe you are three couples who have been promising each other this weekend since spring, a family in for Family Weekend at Walla Walla University, or the one who volunteered to host Thanksgiving.

THE LILAC SUITE IS THE ANSWER TO THAT PARTICULAR PROBLEM

This is the entire upstairs of a house on a quiet corner in College Place, minutes from downtown Walla Walla, and it is yours alone — your own front door, driveway, deck and hot tub. Three bedrooms, every one with a king bed. Two full bathrooms. One very large kitchen with two ovens. A gas fireplace back in service October 1. And a covered deck with a sofa, which in a Walla Walla November beats another square foot of living room.

We have hosted here since 2018 and gathered over a hundred reviews, so we would rather quote guests than ourselves.

THREE KING BEDROOMS — NOBODY DRAWS STRAWS

"The king bedrooms made it easy for each of us to have our own room on the girls trip."

This is what makes a group trip work. Three couples, three real bedrooms, three king beds, and nobody negotiating over who gets the good one. Two share a bathroom between them; the third uses the hall bathroom, so no queue forms in the morning. Room-darkening shades throughout, a pack-n-play and booster seat, and a trundle twin in the middle bedroom for a child. If you are seven, there is a queen sofa bed in the living room. The bedrooms are spread across the floor plan rather than stacked down a corridor — the detail that lets adults share a house without living on top of each other.

A KITCHEN WITH TWO OVENS — THE PART NO ONE ELSE HAS

"Absolutely gorgeous — everything in kitchen to make a Christmas dinner for kids."
"The kitchen and dining space was an A+."

We cannot find another house near Walla Walla advertising two ovens. It sounds like a small thing until it is the third Thursday in November and there is a turkey in one and everything else waiting. Two ovens means the sides go in with the bird and the pie bakes while dinner rests — a holiday meal for seven, cooked by people who are also on holiday.

Around them: a full-size refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, blender, toaster, kettle, a Keurig with complimentary pods, cooking basics, spices, and wine glasses — this is wine country. There is a large island, a buffet counter, and a table with room for everyone.

And there is the waffle bar — complimentary, with toppings and syrup, and it appears in more reviews than almost anything else here. The mix is vegan but contains gluten; all toppings are gluten free and vegan.

"Enjoyed the fireplace and the waffle bar!"

THE HOT TUB IS AN AUTUMN AMENITY

"Delightful hot tub!" · "Awesome patio with a hot tub!"

Here is something most listings will not tell you: a hot tub is at its worst in August. One of our summer guests wrote that it was simply too hot to enjoy, and they were right. October onward is when it earns its keep — you come back from tasting, the temperature has dropped, steam is coming off the water, and you sit outside in the dark with a glass of wine while the valley goes quiet.

The hot tub sits on your private patio under a pergola, towels provided. Beside it is a properly covered deck — a solid cedar-beamed roof over an outdoor sofa, a rug and a life-size Connect Four — so there is still somewhere to sit outside when the weather turns. There is also an outdoor dining table, a barbecue and a porch swing.

THE FIREPLACE COMES BACK ON OCTOBER 1

"Watched Christmas movies — the fireplace added such a beautiful touch!"

The gas fireplace is out of service from the first of May to the first of October — on for exactly the months you would want it. The living room around it is genuinely large: deep sofas, a smart TV, big windows onto the back yard, and space for the whole group. Board games in the cabinet, a life-size Connect Four on the deck, cornhole outside.

WHERE YOU ACTUALLY ARE

College Place sits beside Walla Walla, so you are minutes from the wine and the restaurants while sleeping somewhere quiet with easy parking.

• Downtown Walla Walla — tasting rooms, restaurants, the Marcus Whitman Hotel — 8 minutes
• Walla Walla University — 1 mile · Whitman College — 10 minutes
• Seven Hills Winery — 11 minutes · Bledsoe Family Winery — 12 minutes
• Wine Valley Golf Club — 13 minutes · Force Majeure Vineyards — 14 minutes
• Walla Walla Regional Airport — 15 minutes · L'Ecole No 41 — 18 minutes
• Walla Walla Vintners — 20 minutes · Frog Hollow Farm — 7 minutes
• Lion's Park across the street · grocery and taqueria half a mile

Lion's Park finished its rebuild in 2025 — inclusive playground, sports fields, fishing dock, walking paths, duck pond and splash pad.

Autumn dates worth planning around: harvest runs through September and October, Fall Release Weekend in early November is the biggest wine weekend of the year, and both Whitman and Walla Walla University hold family weekends in late October.

A car is the right way to get around; rideshare is genuinely unreliable here, and local car services are the better plan for an evening of tasting. There is room for three vehicles in the front driveway, plus the back cul-de-sac and the street. The EV charger is 220V, so bring your own cable.

GETTING IN, AND US

Check in is from 4pm, checkout is 10am, and entry is by keypad — let yourself in whenever you arrive.

"Uber clean, well appointed, cabinets labeled. Host Mindi is an excellent communicator. Seamless check in/out."

We live a few minutes away and would rather hear something is wrong during your stay than read it afterwards.

SOME THINGS WE WOULD RATHER YOU KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK

The stays that go wrong are the ones where someone was surprised, so here are ours. There is no washer or dryer; a large laundromat is two minutes away on College Avenue. The house is on a busy street, which means some road noise in the front bedroom.

You have the whole upstairs, and two separate apartments downstairs may be rented to other guests — each with its own entrance, so you share neither a door nor the driveway. But this is an older house and sound carries between floors: you will hear them and they will hear you. Quiet hours are 10pm to 7am. Full details in the notes below.

Heating and cooling is a shared system we control remotely; message us and we will adjust it. Shoes off, please.

SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE THIS

You arrive on a Friday afternoon in October, let yourselves in with the keypad, and everybody claims a king bedroom without a negotiation. Someone lights the fireplace. You go out to taste, come back at dusk, and put something in one oven and something else in the other. Then whoever wants to sit outside gets in the hot tub with the steam coming off it, and nobody has to drive anywhere.

That is the weekend. Message us your dates and we will help with the sleeping plan, then book your fall stay.

Cancellation Policy: We follow the cancellation policy in place at the time you booked, as shown in your confirmation. If there is any chance you may need to cancel, we recommend purchasing travel insurance at checkout. Refunds are not provided outside the booked policy for weather, illness, or travel disruptions.

No Pets and No Smoking: There is a strict no-pets and no-smoking policy for the benefit of all guests with allergies, and because the suites share a central HVAC system. No parties. Any known abuse of this policy may result in a substantial fine.

Hot Tub: Available year-round with towels provided; use is at your own risk. No glass of any kind in the spa. Please replace the cover and lock the safety strap after every use, and leave the floating chemical dispenser in place. Children under ten may not use the hot tub. Please do not use it if you are pregnant, if you have high blood pressure or other health concerns, or after drinking.

Other Guests and Quiet Hours: You have the entire upstairs. Two separate apartments downstairs may be rented to other guests, each with its own entrance at the back, so you share neither a door nor the driveway. This is an older house and sound carries between floors — you will hear one another. Quiet hours are 10pm to 7am, and please keep the noise down generally whenever there are guests below. Ask us any time whether the downstairs apartments are occupied during your dates.

Outdoor Cameras and Noise Monitor: Security cameras are at both entrances to the house for your safety and may record video and audio. There is also a noise monitor inside that alerts you if decibels get too high; it measures volume only and does not record conversations.

Travelling with a Baby: We provide a pack-n-play and a booster seat. There is no crib and no high chair.

Booking Limitations: Please book only for yourself and your own group. No third-party bookings without permission, and the responsible party must be staying in the suite.

Damage Protection: A damage waiver is included with your cleaning fee and covers accidental damage during your stay. Intentional damage is your responsibility. Please tell us about any damage so we can put it right for the next guests.

Rental Agreement: A link to our rental agreement will be sent to you to sign before check-in. You may also be asked to verify your identity through a third party using two-factor authentication; we do not store any o
