The room itself was ok for the few. Even though there is a full kitchen, there were very few utensils and dishes. It seemed to be the absolute bottom level for the items that were there. The trash can was broken and the trash bags so thin they did not hold up. There are brown stains on the ceiling in the bathroom and bugs in the light over the bed. There were items left in the closet from a previous guest. The ironing board has a gross stain on it and the iron was unusable because the cord kept boiling back! The coffee pot was also broken.The property is very dated and the breezeways, stairways, elevator and outside bathrooms were dirty. When cleaning room, the dirty linen and towels laid outside the door, on the ground ! The cleaning carts were also dirty.I don’t usually complain and no place is perfect but, there were so many things I feel should be addressed.

Check in was fine. There was no toilet paper. Not even a starter roll! Had to go to the front desk to get that. Several TV channels were very “snowy”. Floor was gritty with sand. It looked fine but walking around w/o slippers was not an option. I had to make two trips when checking out at 9:30. Went back to the room to grab the last couple things and the key didn’t work. So I humped down 4 floors to get another key card then back up 4 floors. (Elevator is CRAZY slow!). For the price, my expectations were low but the above mentioned items were pretty basic. The proximity to the beach and view was awesome. I enjoyed that very much.

Beach view was great. Loved the waves lapping along the shoreline! Room was adequate and about what I expected for the low price. I did buy some groceries and found cooking my eggs and sausage to be suboptimal. There was a pan and plates and cups. What was lacking was a dish rag (used a hand towel from the bathroom), no paper towels, ONE fork, (thankfully it was just me on this trip) a couple knives and three spoons. There was no wooden spoon so had to use my one fork to stir the eggs. I tried hard not to scratch the non stick pan surface! There wasn’t a spatula, steak knife (I used my pocket knife) or some other very basic kitchen utensils. The oven was super tricky to turn off. I had to search for the perfect spot on the dial to finally get the burner to go out. Took about a half hour of trial and error! “OFF” on the dial doesn’t really mean off. Fridge and microwave were great. The bathroom had one 3/4 roll of TP but luckily it was enough. Usually hotels will have an extra roll of TP in a cabinet. I couldn’t find one. All the above being said, I had a nice time and would come back in hopes some of the suggestions I’ve made would be implemented.

The hotel is older and is in need of maintenance. But the room was clean, and everything in the room worked fine. It was very convenient to have the mini-kitchen in the room (refrigerator, oven, microwave, sink).It is direct and easy beachfront access. The pool was good sized and clean.

This property was an absolute disappointment and completely failed us during what was supposed to be our honeymoon.We arrived around 3:25 PM and politely asked about early check-in per VRBO’s instructions. The front desk attendant did not check the system or offer any assistance—she immediately stated that check-in was at 4:00 PM and that the room was “not ready yet,” in a dismissive and rude tone.We returned after the official check-in time at 4:15 PM and were told again that the room was still not ready. We were finally checked in around 4:50 PM, nearly an hour after the scheduled check-in time. When we entered the room, we were shocked by the condition. The window seal was completely rotted away, to the point where you could literally stick your hand outside, allowing wind, rain, and bugs to enter. The room also reeked of a strong, unpleasant odor, making it uncomfortable to be in. This is unacceptable under any circumstance.To make matters worse, the elevators were not functioning properly, forcing us to carry all of our luggage up the stairs.What’s even more frustrating is that almost a week later, I am still trying to obtain a refund through VRBO, and despite emailing the manager of Sugar Sands, I have received no response at all.The lack of accountability after the stay is just as disappointing as the experience itself. I strongly advise anyone trying to have a good time to book elsewhere! This was so bad we are resaving our money and redoing the trip somewhere else.

Great location, decent lodgings

This is the second time my mom and I have stayed at Sugar Sands in the fall. We love the quiet location and the open beach. The hotel is next to a long sand dune so the beach feels very private and secluded. The hotel is older and not well maintained (the walkway to the beach needs repair, there is lots of visible wear and tear on the premise), but the room feels clean, comfortable, and quiet. The staff is friendly and helpful. While I wouldn't give it 5 stars, I would gladly return here for another quiet beach vacation.

Family getaway

This was a nice quite place to stay. The rooms could have been a little bigger and they need to purchase more towels to have on hand. Other than that we have no complaints. The staff was very nice. Very easy check in and out. Nice beach location with private access and nice pool. Close to everything. Would stay again.

Stunning view

We had such a wonderful time staying at this rental. It is a little older, but for us, we didn’t mind at all when we considered the location on the beach in a quieter part of town, the incredible view and heated pool. We woke up to the sound of the ocean and just enjoyed every minute of our stay. Loved having a kitchen too. Would come back again!
