About this property

Cosy coastal cottage in Portsoy, Scotland with beautiful sea views

Situated in the beautiful coastal town of Portsoy in the North East of Scotland. Number Forty Two has been family owned for the past 30 years and was turned into a holiday let 4 years ago. Ideally situated with a 1 minute walk to both New Harbour and the Historic 17th Century Old Harbour. The cottage is also a 5/10 minute walk to the local shops which includes 2 bakeries, Portsoy Ice Cream Shop, Coffee Shops, Restaurants, take aways and bars, Portsoy Gift Shop and a grocery store.

About the Cottage
She may look small on the outside but Number Forty Two is a spacious cottage that can sleep up to 6 people. The cottage is on 2 levels.

Downstairs
Master Bedroom - The master bedroom has a comfortable king size bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. This room has double aspect view, with a street view from the front of the property and a garden view from the rear window. We provide all bed linen.

Bathroom - With a lovely double shower cubicle with electric shower and a Jacuzzi bath. Hand and bath towels, 1 toilet roll and hand soap are provided for your stay.

Living Room - A bright and spacious living area for everyone to cosy up and chill for the evening watching the latest Netflix series in front of the electric fire. Enjoy a game of scrabble (or even twister) with the family from a small selection of board games in the games cupboard.

Kitchen/Sitting Area - A large open plan kitchen area to cook up your favourite meal (or to enjoy your take out if you fancy a night off from cooking). Or sit and relax on the comfortable corner sofa or swivel chair watching the dolphins out on the bay, the sunrise in the morning or if you're staying in the winter you may even see the Aurora Borealis. Dish clothes, dish towels, pan scourer and washing up liquid are provided for your stay. We also have a Tassimo Coffee Machine which we provide a small selection of coffee and hot chocolate pods.

Conservatory - Too chilly of an evening to sit outside? Then why not have that tipple of choice in the conservatory where it will still be warm and pick a book from the book shelf to unwind in the evening.

Upstairs
Double Bedroom - If you were unable to fight for the King Size bed then you will be waking up to the beautiful sea views from this bedroom. Situated at the back of the house you will be opening your curtains to sea views and beautiful sunrises. All bedrooms have blackout curtains so if you’re not keen on the early sunrise waking you up you’ve no need to worry.

Twin Room - Also situated at the back of the house this room contains 2 single beds. Kids and adults alike will also be waking up to sea views across the bay from this room. And with blackout curtains maybe the kids will sleep that little longer in the mornings.

Dressing Room - A multi use room with a vanity desk that can be used to get yourself ready for the day ahead. On a working holiday? Use this space as an office during your stay. There is also a hanging rail for the upstairs bedroom guests to hang their clothes. We provide a hairdryer so it is boneless thing to bring with you.

The Garden
Number Forty Two has a large garden with the most gorgeous sea views. Why not open up the large patio doors in the kitchen and sit and enjoy your breakfast el fresco on the patio. Or take that dinner right up to the the back of the garden on the raised area to take in even more views of the sea. There is also a grassed area with a whirly bird dryer or for the kids to run about on. We also have a letter box containing rock pool nets, fishing rods, crabbing nets and bucket and spades for a day at the beach or harbour.

Parking
Number Forty Two has its own drive way and parking is available for up to 2 cars. Please be courteous to other neighbours and avoid parking in front of driveways etc.

What’s not provided
Young children are more than welcome to come their holidays to Number Forty Two. Unfortunately we do not provide a cot, so you will need to bring your own. A high chair is provided if needed. Please request this prior to your arrival. We also have a small selection of toys and books for younger children.

The Area
There is so much to see and do in the area. From visiting one of the many beautiful beaches in Aberdeenshire & Moray (we provide buckets and spades at Number Forty Two) to the many walks and hikes along the coast or inland. A favourite of ours is visiting Findlater Castle between Sandend and Cullen and walking further out to the secluded beach of Sunnyside. With Portsoy being situated in Whiskey Country there are also so many Distilleries to visit and sample their delights.

A fantastic location!

My brother and I thouroly enjoyed our stay here! The kitchen had every sort of an appliance you might need. The views were great and one really nice perk was the off street parking.

Portsoy stay

Beautiful sparkling clean house with some lovely touches - Christmas tree and decorations, tray of chocolate, basket full of goodies. We had a couple of minor problems but owner responded and rectified the problems very quickly. Nice views of the sea and the harbour is within minutes walking distance. Would definitely return here if in area again.

Great location in the beautiful seaside village of Portsoy. Great entertaining spaces, inside and out with sea views. Property very clean, tidy and well equipped. Perfect for our group of 6 blokes on a golfing holiday in the region.

About the host

Hosted by Donna Philip

Host profile image
The Philip family are husband and wife team, Neil and Donna who are both born and bred Portsoy. Donna works part time at the local school as well as host & cleaner for Number Forty Two, whilst Neil currently works offshore in the oil industry in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. We are also busy running after 2 boys, Rhys and Blair.

We all love being close to the sea. Whilst Neil enjoys his free time on his creel boat 'Polaris' catching lobsters and Mackerel, I enjoy being out on a peaceful paddle on my SUP or a cold dip in the sea. Both of our boys also love to get into their wetsuits and body board at one of the many local beaches.

We also enjoy getting away for a few days here and there in our Campervan, visiting other parts of Scotland and beyond when we can. As long as it has a beach or a loch we are very happy campers.

Why they chose this property

Number Forty Two has been in the family for more than 30 years and was converted into a holiday let, opening its doors in 2022 to guests. It is a quiet neighbour hood and a short walk to both harbours, the beach and local amenities.

What makes this property unique

She may look like a small cottage on the outside, inside she is a lot more spacious than you think. We also have the most spectacular views of the sea from the house. And with a large garden to relax, you can sit and watch the dolphins (or even Orcas) pass by in the bay or in the winter you may see the Northern Lights on a clear night. Number Forty Two is also well located to both Harbours in Portsoy, the beach, local walks and the shops.
