About this property
Bird-of-Paradise Studio: peaceful + easy parking
Unwind in a stylish, secure guest studio located within our historic family home. Set in a beautifully preserved early-1900s architectural gem, this private retreat features its own entrance, a queen Tempur-Pedic bed, a full bathroom with shower, and a cozy kitchenette. Thoughtful amenities include blackout curtains, a smart TV, and ample free street parking. Ideal for guests seeking a quiet, comfortable place to recharge after exploring the vibrant energy of New Orleans.
Your private retreat is located on the ground floor at the rear of our home and features its own separate entrance for easy access. Enjoy seamless self-check-in via a secure keyless lock—simply enter through the gate on Jena Street to reach your cozy home-away-from-home, tucked beside our lush backyard. Maintained with care, the garden is a plant lover’s delight, featuring birds-of-paradise, orchids, bromeliads, fragrant plumeria, and sweet olive trees.
My family and I live on the upper level of the home with our young children, so this suite is not suitable for parties or events. We kindly ask that guests observe quiet hours between 9:00 PM and 8:00 AM. While we are mindful of noise during these times, you may occasionally hear footsteps from above or the sounds of children playing in the nearby backyard. Additionally, the ground floor of the property also houses our working pottery studio, operated by my husband and me during daytime hours.
I’m available if you need assistance during your stay, but equally happy to respect your privacy.

About the host
Hosted by Rachael DePauw
I’m a ceramic artist living in New Orleans with my husband and our three children. We work from our home studio and enjoy welcoming guests who appreciate thoughtful spaces, local character, and a quiet place to recharge after exploring the city.
Why they chose this property
We chose this neighborhood for its sense of community, historic character, and central location. It offers a peaceful, residential feel while still providing easy access to New Orleans’ vibrant food, music, and cultural scenes. Tree-lined streets, early-20th-century architecture, and friendly neighbors make it a place that truly feels like home.
What makes this property unique
What makes our property unique is the combination of privacy, historic character, and creative energy. The guest studio is thoughtfully designed within an early-1900s home, offering a private entrance and quiet retreat, while still being part of a lived-in family residence. As working ceramic artists, our home and garden reflect an appreciation for craft, care, and intentional design—creating a stay that feels personal, authentic, and distinctly New Orleans.
