Funky property in an excellent location
By “funky” I mean that you have to walk through a queen bedroom with one bath to reach a second king bedroom with the only other bathroom in the house.
To reach the king bedroom upstairs you have to walk through a queen loft. There are no bathrooms upstairs. This arrangement works for two couples only if one is willing to sleep in the downstairs king, and the other in the upstairs king. Of course, the couple upstairs has to go downstairs to use the bathroom in the first bedroom. The arrangement would also work nicely for a family with children.
There are spider webs in the back corner of the upstairs king bedroom. Both couples had large bugs to deal with. A deep cleaning and filling the gaps in the various add-on spaces would help. The towels could use a good bleaching.
The front bathroom sink, wall tiles, and tub must date back to the 1950’s. I loved it! However, the water pressure was lower than I would have liked.
There were no: waste paper baskets upstairs; Kleenex; bath soap; condiments; cell service.
The internet was very slow. It was almost impossible to watch anything streaming on the TV.
The owner lives nearby and made himself available if we needed anything (which we didn't). He gave us a very useful list of sights to see in the surrounding area. The property is about 30 minutes from the park entrance. It's rather close to the highway, so there is periodic road noise when the windows are open (necessary during summer nights).
There are virtually no restaurants open anywhere nearby for dinner after 6:00 p.m. I strongly advised a stop in Redding to pick up enough food for breakfasts and those afternoons and evenings you are not on the road. We found Lilly’s in Mt. Shasta and Julio’s Grill in Burney (the town near Burney falls, also a must see).
The foregoing notwithstanding, this house was comfortable and reasonably well located. The highlight of the property is a comfortable back deck overlooking a beautiful picturesque creek and forest. The kitchen is well stocked with appliances and utensils.
Park on the right side of the garage to avoid pine sap dripping on your car. Fortunately, window cleaner removes it pretty easily.
