About the host
Hosted by Mark Miller
We’re from Sonoma County, California, and this mountain home has been a special place for our family for many years. In 2009, my brother and I finished building this custom home, and since then it has been the backdrop for countless family vacations and fun gatherings filled with laughter, good food, games, and memories.
Over the years, we’ve explored nearly every corner of this beautiful area, but our favorite place is Lassen Volcanic National Park. We love paddle boarding on Manzanita Lake and hiking one of the many trails available. We especially love Kings Creek Falls, Bumpass Hell, and Terrace Lake! We often snowshoe in the winter and biking the park highway in the spring before it opens to vehicle traffic. We always stop at the visitor center to see what’s new, and in the summer we never miss a chance to enjoy soft-serve ice cream from the camper store!
We truly love sharing this home with others. There’s something special about watching guests discover the same places that have meant so much to our family. Whether you're here to explore volcanoes, waterfalls, lakes, and hiking trails or simply to unplug and relax, we hope your stay is filled with wonderful adventures and meaningful memories.
Why they chose this property
We chose this location because it offers the perfect balance of peaceful mountain living and easy access to some of Northern California's most spectacular outdoor destinations. Surrounded by towering pines, fresh mountain air, birds, and frequent visits from deer, it's the kind of place where you can truly slow down and relax. One of our favorite morning or evening traditions is taking a walk around the neighborhood. Just around the corner, you'll be rewarded with an incredible view of the peak of Mt. Lassen. Many of our guests return year after year because they fall in love with the peaceful and beautiful setting.
Although the neighborhood feels wonderfully secluded, you're only minutes from the little town of Shingletown. We always enjoy stopping at the local market and deli for a great burger or sandwich, and the pizza parlor has become one of our family favorites.
The location also makes it easy to explore everything the area has to offer. Lake McCumber is just a few minutes away, Burney Falls is an easy day trip, Subway Caves is always a fun little adventure, and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area offers swimming, boating, and hiking as well. Our kids especially loved sledding at nearby Eskimo Hill in the winter when they were young! Whether you want to spend your days exploring or simply relax with a cup of coffee while watching wildlife from the patio, this neighborhood offers the best of both worlds.
What makes this property unique
Seeing almost 100 five-star reviews from guests who have fallen in love with this place reminds us why we enjoy hosting so much. The home is comfortable, welcoming, and a perfect place for gathering or relaxing after a day of adventure.
The spacious living room is ideal for movie nights, visiting with family and friends, or pulling out one of the many board games or puzzles we keep stocked for guests. The large kitchen has hosted countless family meals over the years and is fully equipped for cooking with everything you may need.
Guests often tell us how comfortable the beds are and how much they appreciate having plenty of space to spread out in the home. After a long day of outdoor exploring the oversized walk-in shower with dual shower heads in the primary suite is one of our favorite luxuries.
We think the greatest feature, though, is the location. Lassen Volcanic National Park is only about 15 minutes away, making it incredibly easy to experience one of California's most remarkable national parks. Whether you're seeking adventure or simply a peaceful escape in the mountains, we hope you'll love this home as much as our family has.
