Our stay at this Maui property was extremely disappointing and, at one point, unsafe. What began as a small ant issue quickly escalated into a full infestation of flying insects entering through gaps in the door where weather stripping was missing. Within hours, hundreds of bugs were covering the bed, walls, and ceiling. It was impossible to sleep in the unit, and we had to leave at 10pm to find a hotel that could fit our family of six. That last‑minute booking alone cost us more than one‑third of our entire stay. Despite sending photos and videos, the management company repeatedly minimized the situation, insisting the insects were “harmless” and advising us to dim lights and keep doors closed. We were told multiple times that someone would arrive “first thing in the morning,” yet more than 16 hours passed before any meaningful action was taken. Communication was inconsistent, dismissive, and lacked urgency, even as the conditions became unlivable. Our daughter experienced an allergic reaction after being swarmed, and our 80‑year‑old grandmother had nowhere safe to rest. While we understand Maui’s tropical environment can bring occasional pests, this was far beyond normal. The unit should never have been rented in this condition, and the response from management made an already stressful situation significantly worse. The condo was eventually cleaned and traps were installed, but only after long delays and after we were forced to leave for the night AND they wouldn’t refund!

This is something that can happen on Maui after heavy storms — these tiny insects are drawn to light and can show up in numbers quickly, even in a unit that was inspected and clear just hours earlier. Our team had the property inspected prior to your arrival, and this swarm appears to have developed in the window between that inspection and your later evening check-in — a known seasonal pattern across South Maui, not a reflection of the property's condition or upkeep. Our team takes pest concerns seriously and responded promptly once we were made aware: we brought over light traps the next morning and had our cleaning team return the same day for a full clean of the unit. Regular, ongoing pest control is part of our standard maintenance at every property we manage, and our team continues to monitor conditions closely, especially after storm activity. We know an interruption like this isn't what anyone hopes for on a Maui vacation, and we appreciate you giving us the chance to make it right quickly. For future guests: South Maui's beauty comes with a tropical climate, and on the rare occasion something like this pops up, our team is fast, responsive, and ready to resolve it.
