About this property

Discover a place of enchantment, of tranquility and serenity at Aliʻi Koa.

One-of-a-kind coastal view in Volcano, mesmerizing overlooks of the native ʻōhiʻa forest, and immersion into the natural wonders of Hawaiʻi - all this as a guest of Aliʻi Koa. We know you'll be inspired by the view of the Puna coastline from your fully furnished suite and private balcony. Revel in breathtaking sunrises enjoying a morning coffee and our panoramic sunsets will set your hearts on fire.

The space
The property is set atop a prominent rise with superb views of the upper ʻŌlaʻa Forest Reserve and the magnificent coastal plain below; both of which are set against the expansive and vibrant skyline of Puna.

We are proud to be 100% self-sustainable as the state-of-the-art solar system powers the residence, which is backed up by a 12,000 kilowatt back-up generator. While we are connected to the electrical grid, it acts as a back-up and is tertiary to our solar electric system and back-up generator.

Turning into the driveway, you are visually astounded as the forest opens up to reveal the property as our 2,400 square foot home on approximately 1.6 acres of land. The parking area features eight-feet tall Hāpuʻu Ferns situated in oversized ceramic planters.
Walking upstairs to your private lanai you are transported into a lush-green paradise as a hundred foot tall ʻōhia trees lazily sway in the wind while the fragrance and sound of the forest stimulate your senses.

Sunrises from you private lanai are stellar and the elevation allows for unimpeded views downslope to the coastal plain, ocean, and horizon. During the day, enjoy cloud-watching and guess at the various faces, animals and objects the clouds form as they float by. At sunset, enjoy the ever-changing skyline as it changes from blue to yellow/orange to pink/purple and everything in-between; truly magical.
The Pele Suite maximizes the four-hundred and eighty square foot living area via an open concept that allows it to feel light and airy. The living area includes a wrap-around leatherette sofa, which comfortably seats four with the adjoining prep-area featuring all the amenities of home.
The bedroom includes an Alderwood queen-size bed set featuring a 10" Plush Gel Memory Foam Mattress for the ultimate in comfort and sleep. The matching ten-drawer dresser with 30-inch mirror provides ample space to store personal belongings and to get ready in the morning for your exciting day at Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.
The Pele Suite interior is adorned with images of the Mauna Loa and Kīlauea volcanoes in various forms of eruption; showing the beauty, power, and magnificence of Tūtū Pele.
We invite you to come experience the Pele Suite at Aliʻi Koa.

Host profile image
We are a family-owned, Native-Hawaiian business creating economic opportunities for its people. HE ALIʻI KA ʻĀINA; HE KAUWĀ KE KANAKA - the land has no need for man, but man needs the land and works it for a livelihood.

My wife and I can trace our family lineage back to pre-contact Hawaiʻi and have worked in our community for over 20 years. Aliʻi Koa represents a new phase in our lives and we look forward to hosting visitors from around the world and sharing our knowledge of Hawaiʻi with guests.

Prominent in our family photo is My wife Kuʻu (pronounced Kew-ew) who comes from a long line of cultural practitioners who specializes in traditional Hawaiian weaving, lei-making, and cloth-making and printing. Kuʻu is also a wonderfully talented hula dancer and actively supports her Hālau (hula group) which participates in the super-bowl of hula competitions; the Merrie Monarch Hula festival held annually in Hilo, Hawaiʻi.

Our niece Brandee is also a culturalist, specializing in traditional moʻolelo or Hawaiian story-telling, native flora and fauna of Hawaiʻi, and ʻohe kāpala or traditional Hawaiian cloth printing. Brandee is also the Property Manager at Aliʻi Koa and is the person you will reach out to if you need assistance while at Aliʻi Koa.

Our nephew Mina who is a native speaker and has traveled the world dancing hula and representing Hawaiʻi is a wonderful cultural ambassador. He is family man, farmer, and hosts workshops on traditional poi pounding.

Finally, my 84 year-old mother Naomi and I are pictured in the middle of the photo and our role in all of this is as we say in Hawaiʻi is to “take care of our family” by supporting their development to ensure they; 1. serve a higher power or purpose, 2. love and respect one another, and 3. strive to live an honest and decent life. I can say that we are blessed for the family we have and those who came before us.

Thank you for reading our story and I hope to meet you at Aliʻi Koa in the near future.

Aloha, Allen

Why they chose this property

The cool climate in Volcano can best be described as having air conditioning (AC) outside. Have you ever wanted to cut the grass in AC? That is exactly what its like in Volcano where it can be a cool 74 degrees at 2 P.M. with the sun shining and clear blue skies in the middle of August.

What makes this property unique

The ocean view at Aliʻi Koa is ONE-OF-A-KIND in Volcano because of three factors: 1. we are over 25 miles away from the coastline, 2. we are surrounded by 100 foot tall ʻŌhiʻa trees in a dense highland forest, and 3. the slope of the land although consistent is not steep. The property was selected for its potential to have this spectacular view and it took an immense amount of work to create.
