Secluded • Hot Tub, Fire Pit + Dog Friendly, Private Trail and Fenced Pasture
A private mountain retreat with a hot tub, fire pit, fast Wi-Fi, wood stove and your own wooded trail. This unique, modern cabin is packed with thoughtful details! Dog-friendly with a huge fenced pasture, plus tons of fun for kids—tent beds, a property scavenger hunt, and games. Enjoy the stocked kitchen and the quiet seclusion (on 8 acres!) that still puts you less than 20 mins from downtown Black Mountain and 30 mins from Asheville, + close to sledding and skiing! Spread out in multiple living areas, relax in the hot tub, or follow the short private peaceful wooded hiking trail on the property down to the mountain creek.
“Words cannot capture the true beauty of the house and its surroundings; even photos fall short.” – Kerri
Enjoy all the unique spaces: enjoy s’mores at the fire pit, a soak in the hot tub, or pile onto the oversized loft sofa and enjoy a movie on the NEW projector in the loft.
Inside, the upstairs king bedroom also includes two charming, cozy tent themed beds kids love. The upstairs loft sofa folds out to a queen. The main level's bedroom has an adjustable queen bed. Two full bathrooms and a washer/dryer make week-long stays simple. Fast internet keeps streaming and remote work easy. ⚡️Moonlight has something most cabins don’t: a backup generator. If the power goes out (a reality in the mountains) the lights, heat and water won't, so you can keep relaxing.
The open kitchen is a standout: Cook and bake with All-Clad cookware, a KitchenAid mixer, sharp knives, pantry basics, and thoughtful extras. “The kitchen had everything we needed for a big family dinner—it felt like cooking at home."
Families enjoy puzzles, books, and board games inside, yard games outside, the Moonlight Explorer nature game, and a property-wide scavenger hunt. The cabin also has kid-friendly cups, plates and custom Moonlight coloring books and placemats to keep them entertained!
Dogs are always welcome to join the adventure! The huge fenced pasture gives them safe room to run (**please message for more info) and we provide bowls, blankets, as well as a bed and toys on request. *Please let us know how many pups are coming along. Due to severe owner allergies, cats are not permitted.
📍Location Downtown Black Mountain is less than 20 minutes away, offering shops, live music, and incredible restaurants. Asheville is 30 minutes away, featuring the Biltmore Estate, a vibrant art scene, renowned breweries, and unique dining options. Popular hikes like Catawba Falls, Lookout Trail, and Chimney Rock are an easy drive, as well as ❄️ SLEDDING less than hour away and 3 different SKI hill options within 1.5 hours!
“Come, enjoy what feels like your own private mountain. You won’t regret it!” – Stephanie
Important Details Accessing a mountain retreat means navigating a mountain road. Moonlight sits at the end of a 1.5-mile gravel road. It’s well-maintained but narrow (one lane) in spots, so take your time. AWD or 4WD is required during Nov-Feb due to snow/ice possibility.
Why Else You’ll Love Moonlight 🌙 *Room for Everyone: Multiple living areas and couches, cozy porches, and hidden nooks provide plenty of space for each guest to find their own space. *Blissful Sleeping Arrangements: Sink into luxurious Tuft + Needle mattresses. *A record player for music lovers. *Streaming TVs in the living room and bedrooms for binge-worthy moments.
“Couldn't recommend this place enough. 12/10! Laura is amazing, and the cabin was truly serene.” – Peter

We stayed at this cabin for a family trip to explore the excellent nearby outdoor hiking and adventures around the Black Mountain area. We could not have asked for a better place to stay during our trip- our entire family was sad to leave and will be looking for time when we can return for a longer stay. The entire process from booking through check out was seamless and the host was incredibly responsive leading up to and during our stay.
Laura is an excellent host! She was always responsive and friendly. The house was perfect. Our twins loved staying in the tent beds. There’s plenty to do just around the property.
This one is no doubt the most well thought, accommodating home we’ve stayed in. The host has thought of everything. Beautiful place in the woods. Quiet and comfortable. What a great retreat. Thank you!
It was such a relaxing, cozy weekend at this mountain escape! The road to the property definitely requires SUV/4WD and is a bit treacherous at night, but the property is worth the adventure! We had a wonderful time celebrating my partners 30th birthday with close friends. Close enough to Asheville for a day trip!
Absolutely perfect!! Our family and dogs spent 4 nights for Christmas. The cabin was beautifully decorated and extremely clean and spacious. We loved the cabin and the property. The huge fire pit area was very relaxing, the kids loved the path to the creek and the dogs loved the large areas to walk and play. Everyone begged for “cabin time” rather than venturing out to nearby places. Laura was very accommodating and very quick to answer questions. We definitely plan to go back.
Amazing home and Laura is a great host. Best home we have ever stayed in with attention to high quality cooking equipment and all natural products. Unscented towels and sheets….no chemical smells like most homes that use unhealthy scented chemicals for laundry and bathing. We will be back. Thank you Laura!
We had an amazingly time staying at Moonlight. Your cabin is great and decorated beautifully! I kept saying "I would love to live here", lol. Incredibly clean and such attention to small details. Kitchen is well stocked, beds are super comfortable and the hot tub is great. We absolutely loved sitting by the fire pit during the chilly evenings!!! My only critique- although the property is "fenced in", it is not technically secured for dogs (at least my mischievous pup who likes to run). We loved it and look forward to returning!
The home is beautifully clean and well designed, as well as very well appointed. Whenever I needed something, it was always there. Including extra towels, paper towels, laundry soap, dish soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Good communication from the host. I imagine in the winter a 4 WD would be required but our front-drive sedan did fine on the long dirt access road.
If you are craving nature , peace and tranquility, this is the cabin for you ! The cabin had so much to offer that we were happy to just just stay there rather than going anywhere else. The inside had the luxury of coziness , you could stay inside , play games , watch movies , cook in the kitchen and still enjoy your family with the open floor plan. Outside lovers could sit outside on the back deck and listen to the lovely sound of the cicadas or Sit out on the front porch in the hot tub or the oversized super padded , comfy porch swing . Ohhhh and let’s not forget about the fenced in area with the fire pit to enjoy some smores while letting your dogs run and play or the nature trail out back to get your fur babies walk in. Let’s just say , we loved it so much we could’ve stayed here forever ! The Levay Family
My son and I (and our 2 pups!) had such a lovely stay here for 4 nights from Atlanta. It is impossible not to feel at peace surrounded by nature, stars, and fresh clean mountain air! The local town is adorable with unique restaurants and shops and 15 minutes up the mountainside you arrive at the beautiful cabin, warmly lit, beautifully designed and built, with lots of little magical details that make it so special. The owner really went out of her way (like really really really) to make the cabin very friendly to children and to our dogs - both were cozy and delighted by the space and activities. My favorite thing was to sit on the back porch with a cup of coffee and take in the tranquil silence ... ahhh will need to channel that feeling now we are back in noisy Atlanta! Also will miss the hot tub! Overall a wonderful stay, in a beautiful place, with a great host.

We’re sorry you lost power for a few hours the first night of your stay. While the tree coming down in the neighborhood was of course out of our control, we hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay.

We are big travelers! Inspired by all our stays, we use those experiences to make this place special – a peaceful haven surrounded by nature, with all the little things that matter. It’s the best when you find a place that allows you to spend time outdoors, relax comfortably, and live like you do at home. That’s exactly what we’ve tried to recreate at Moonlight.
