The property was just okay. The hot water has an absolute awful smell which could be smelled throughout the entire house after showers or when doing dishes. The view is good.

We appreciate your stay at this property.
The house does have a water filtration system in it and we have never experienced what's being described. That said over the years we have never had anyone mention anything like this. It's not that unusual in this region to have a sulfuric smell to the water but again with the filtration system we have on the cabin, its never been an issue there.
The area did have an extended winter freeze with some serious ground movement and swell, perhaps during this particular stay, because of ground movement, a cycle of really strong smelling water went through the system. Regardless and rest assured, it's certainly not the case now. And the system seems to be working very well.
Awesome place and amenities. It is a beautiful location and wildlife were always out back by the river. Moose and bald eagles. The place is very comfortable and in a great location to nearby stores for your needs. The hosts are very thoughtful with items which could be needed during your stay. We will be back again. Thanks
Walt’s Cabin is exactly as described! It’s at a beautiful spot on the Kenia River, and the pantry and laundry amenities were a great surprise. Truly home away from home! Thank you!
The location was great for day trips to Whittier, Homer and Seward with restaurants and grocery stores nearby. The view of the river was beautiful. Nice having some food items available along with soaps, but most VRBO’s have those. Never have seen tip jars though for those things along with yard work tip jar? Did not like the sulfur/rotten egg smelling water though—made the whole house smell when taking showers or doing dishes. Might be worth investing in a water filtration system. We did our laundry while there, but was worried about ruining our clothes in case of rust and iron in water. No wildlife came by while we were there. Close drive to many wildlife viewing areas though. The furniture in the living room was falling apart and filthy looking. The dining room table swiveled around quite a bit. The furniture needs a little attention. We were disappointed a little bit, but made the best of it. The beds were comfortable. With plenty of pillows and extra blankets available.

Well we appreciate your stay at this little property.
It is one of the older properties on the river and as such, we believe the furniture (is clean and sterilized) adds to the motif of the location and I'll take a closer look at whatever might be falling apart???
The property is also equipped with a water filtration system but we've never noticed any issue with water smell or taste. That said, no one else has ever made this observation over the years.
We hire and pay third parties to clean, stock and take care of the yard. The jars are simply there for guests to basically thank them directly if you feel so inclined (we've had guests ask how they can show them appreciation). If you don't feel inclined and it's not your thing, please just ignore.
We hope your stay on the Kenai was enjoyable.
Walt’s cabin is perfect for our stay. All esentials are provided, and it’s a bonus to have pots/pans and everything you need to cook also. Chuck is always great to deal with, no issues at all!

We vacationed to Alaska and used Walt’s Cabin for a few night while we were in the area doing some fishing and sightseeing. Was very convenient for our stay. The Property its self was gorgeous and the deck overlooking the River was a favorite way to start with a cup of coffee and end the day with a snack or beverage. Would love to have the opportunity to stay there again in future.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay and you are welcome anytime!!
Loved staying here. It was comfortable for us with 5 adults, plenty of room to stretch out and good amount of cookware for meals cooked at vacation home. Thank you for having the things we couldn’t and didn’t want to fit in suitcase, condiments, sandwich bags, laundry soap, shampoo and bath soap etc. We enjoyed learning the family history of the cabin, loved having the moose visit in the yard, and observing the eagle and her babies in the nest. Perfect stay, thanks so much!

Chuck and Bridgette...
10 days in Walts Cabin was awesome. Perfect location to get around to Homer and seaward.
We had an awesome time at Walt’s cabin. It was very clean and right ton the river. We did ocean fishing, caught halibut, salmon, Lin cod and rockfish. Brought about 100 pounds of fish home with us. We took a float plain out of Kenia and it was a fabulous day salmon fishing with the bears! Highly recommend that trip. Our overall stay was wonderful!

Chuck....
Wonderful! Wonderful! Great place right on the river. We were able to catch several salmon even though they were not really running yet. Would be amazing at the height of the run. Thanks Chuck for sharing this special place with us.
Bridgette and I are both life long Soldotna residents. It is our pleasure to have folks from other places around the globe, stay at this wonderful property on the Kenai River. You'll soon see what it is about this area that's kept us calling it home for so long. You will love your time here!
Why they chose this property
This property was purchased by the Stephan family many years ago. At that time, it was a little remote and secluded. Today while it is still secluded, it's definitely not remote. And, when the salmon are running, it's a great place to get a line wet and land a salmon.
What makes this property unique
What makes this property unique? It's seclusion, it's situation on the river, it's river access, the views and the overall warmth of the entire area.
