Some consider the hummingbird to be magic because of its speed and ability to appear and disappear quickly, to some, sighting a hummingbird signals that challenging times are over and healing can begin, to others these birds are an inspiring sign of hope and good luck, or that the spirit of a loved one is near. The ancient Mayan’s believed that the hummingbird was the “sun in disguise and appears in the form of a hummingbird to court the moon. They are considered to be symbols of wisdom, joy and good luck, and are revered by indigenous cultures in the Americas. Greed mythology indicates the hummingbird is associated with Iris, the goddess of the rainbow and was said to carry messages between the gods
Fun Facts: They are the smallest migrating bird, the humming noise is made by the wings moving so fast, they are the only bird that can fly backwards, they have no sense of smell, a nickel weighs more than the average hummingbird.
Whatever thoughts the hummingbird evokes for you – this home will be a place of respite for you and your family or group during your trip to Galveston. Less than ¾ of a mile to the beach, under 2 miles to the strand historic and shopping district, and just over 2 miles to the cruise terminals – whatever brings you to Galveston the Hummingibird House will welcome you home each day to provide comfort and convenience.
My Galveston Getaway is proud to be the management company selected by the family who owns this home, to welcome you, our guests when the family is not in residence at the home. We have few rules, and ask little of our guests during their stay or on departure – but we are here to answer any questions you may have, make suggestions or recommendations, and in general – help you fall in love with Galveston as we have!
We provide starter supplies prior to each guest’s arrival which includes paper towels, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, conditioner, dish cleaning options, trash bag and starter supplies of coffee. These are intended to get you started – figure out which shopping option works best for your group, and make that first grocery run. Nothing worse than running in from the car and not being able to use the restroom, or waking that first morning with no coffee! These likely won’t last your group the duration of your stay – but they will get you on your way! All beds are made with fresh linens prior to your arrival so if you arrive late, you don’t need to make the beds – or bring your own sheets, or rent them from a local vendor. We provide one bath, wash and hand towel for each guest the home sleeps (10). If you are brining up to 2 additional guests and paying the extra fee for those guests – please know that there is bedding and towels for only the 10 guests that the home accommodates in beds – so please be prepared with your own. We do not provide beach towels – we used to – but they tended to go home with our guests – so it became too expensive to continue replacing them – unfortunately, and rather than raise the price to cover the cost of quality beach towel replacement – we just let our guests know that they aren’t at the home prior to arrival. Beach towels DO make great souvenirs – and you can find them in many of the local stores with various Galveston themes!
Remember that ALL people are considered people – regardless of age or size, so 10 really is the maximum permitted in this property without the additional fees being paid to help cover the extra expenses of housekeeping and utilities at the property. By doing so we are able to keep our rates affordable.
While you will find broom & dustpan, mop and bucket, and other basic cleaning items – we do not expect you to clean the house before you leave. In fact, we don’t even ask that you strip the beds. We ask only that you remove any food from the home and refrigerator, leave notes for future guests about the treasures you found in restaurants, souvenir shops, or excursions while on the island, call us to make your next reservation, and lock the door behind you. If you spend any time at the beach, we would only say it’s nice to kick off as much sand and shake off your towels before returning into the home and if you happen to bring in a bunch of sand, if you would sweep that up it would be great. Lots of sand can make for a slippery floor throughout the home – safety first!
48-72 hours prior to your scheduled arrival – we will email you directly (the guest who made the reservation and provided their email address) with driving directions and check-in instructions. We will then call 24-48 hours later to ensure you received it, verify we provided the correct code to the home, and answer any last minute questions you may have. We are available at any time to assist you or answer questions – but we like to tell you in advance so you don’t think it’s a scam when someone asks you to verify the code.
In general – we leave our guests “alone” to enjoy their stay – however – please don’t think that is because we don’t want to help you – we do! Whether you are celebrating a birthday, engagement, anniversary or wedding or some occasion we haven’t thought of – let us know. We like to surprise people with a little something extra when time permits. If you wish to have something specific in advance and if we are able to do it – order a cake to be ready for you, have decorations in place, etc. – we will do so (again – time permitting!) and most often we charge only the cost of the item(s) and a small surcharge for delivery and set up. We are here to answer any questions you may have or make recommendations – so please do not hesitate to reach out to us before or during your stay.
While many properties we manage are pet friendly - this home is not a dog friendly home. If you plan to travel with a dog - please look at another property managed by MyGalvestonGetaway.
After making your reservation you will receive a link to complete our renters agreement. The only information we request differently than the booking platforms (VRBO/AirBnB) is your personal email address, the names and ages of each person who will be in the property during your stay, and your driver’s license information as well as an emergency contact should we need to reach someone on your behalf. Thank you for completing this in a timely manner so that we may send you the check-in instructions for the property you have reserved.
Galveston is a barrier island in Texas located on the Gulf of Mexico. From time to time we have unexpected rain, thunderstorms, and sometimes we do have tropical storms and hurricanes. From time to time there may be brief interruptions in electricity and WiFi services due to weather. You should consider purchasing trip interruption or cancelation protection through the platforms or another source. We are unable to guarantee sunny days, mosquito free nights and perfect weather, nor do we refund for these possibilities. We issue refunds in the event of mandatory evacuations issued by a governmental agency, or for the property being unavailable due to damages and extended power outages.
For all reservations made directly through our website and through VRBO, there is a $300 security deposit “hold” required. You certainly can purchase trip cancellation/interruption coverage through those platforms as well if you so desire, this is a damage “deposit” hold. This is released once our housekeepers advise that the property has been left in the condition received with no damages occurring during your stay. This is not a charge, but a hold on the credit card on file with which the reservation is made. Should there be damages and they exceed $300 to repair or replace, you will be notified and asked to make arrangements to compensate for those items.

They allow dogs but the dogs have to be crated when you're not there so plan to take them with you everywhere you go. The backyard was over grown so was the front yard for that matter. Lights didn't work. The downstairs bathroom has stains on the wall around the toilet. A small shelf in the downstairs bathroom fell off the wall. It was screwed directly into the sheetrock without anchors. The property has been renovated but it is lacking maintenance.

Response from VrboOwner on 22 Feb, 2024
We are so very sorry you did not enjoy your stay. We are ok with dogs who are not kenneled if well behaved - we just need a phone call to ask for it. We definitely would have sent a handyman had we been notified of burned out bulbs or any maintenance requests whatsoever, and due to heavy rains before and during your stay we were unable to have the yard cut - unfortunately. It was completely saturated. Thank you for letting us know about these concerns - albeit after your departure - we are addressing each of them as we would have during your stay had they been brought to our attention.
