About the host
Hosted by Craig and Robin Dormer
I am going to tell you a little story about the beginnings of our home, The River Sage. Many homes have a story, but not all have a story like this one.
My story starts in the 1970’s when my husband, Craig, started working construction with his buddy in Pennsylvania, it was there that he learned the foundational skills he later used on this home.
Craig was always up for an adventure, backpacking around the United States as well as out of the country, dog mushing in Colorado, but in 1996 he decided to make the journey from PA out to California, to find his next adventure. He found that adventure, her name was Robin (that’s me) and her baby girl Sierra. We married on the first day of spring. We have three children, Sierra, August and Bryanna. In 2005 Craig graduated from CSU Fresno with a teaching credential and we moved our family to Mariposa in order to raise our kids in this beautiful community in the mountains. We are currently both teachers at the high school.
In the summer of 2018 we purchased a little piece of property alongside the Chowchilla River. For the next two years Craig worked on the property, removing brush and clearing trees. He and I created the plans for a little home we would build next to the river.
The River Sage was built over a ten month period. When it came time to build, Craig and his friend Randy took on the project themselves. Since they both worked at the high school, they hired students to help them with construction. Every day after school and on weekends this dedicated band of boys joined the two men, laughing, teasing, building and learning a new trade.
If you were to peel back the walls of our home, you would find that the wood framing is covered with the handprints and well-wishes of friends, family, and all those we love. Blessings and greetings also look over you as you pass through the front door.
Please enjoy your time in this magical place, enjoy the stars, the sounds of crickets and the sounds of the river.
