Our repeat stay was wonderful . Check in process was easy, place was very clean and organized , breakfast food in the fridge was again great to have .Having a separate house or cottage on a culdesac was peaceful and inviting .We always enjoyed watching the deer and raccoons . Very peaceful . It is a great find .
The cabin is nice, stays very cool and was clean, quiet, comfortable, and relaxing. I was a little frustrated at first, as it was not fully fenced when I arrived (fixed the next day). But the cabin has plenty of space and is laid out nicely, and Wi-Fi was exceptionally reliable. Mornings were lovely on the porch, and there's a beautiful Cedar Elm out front and a very Authentic Texas Feel. The breakfast food for our first morning is a really nice touch.
We had the most peaceful quiet vacation. The cabin was perfect in the country, but close it’s a beautiful area short distance from everythingto everything else. The host generously provided breakfast goods in the refrigerator which lasted us a few days. We had complete privacy, but the host was very communicative if we had any questions. We stayed for 12 days and would definitely go back again.
My husband , small dog and myself have been here several times before when we visit Austin
( and we know the difference from others) .
Aedin and her husband are accommodating, welcoming ,They are a stones throw away, but allow us our privacy . The cottage is clean, homey , and has everything we need . It is set in a country like atmosphere with deer and peace and quiet.
We will book again on our future visits . .
Loved how charming this place was! The open floor plan makes it feel very spacious. The kitchen was well stocked, place was super clean, bed is supportive and comfortable. We enjoyed spending time out on the porch. We even arrived to a thoughtful welcoming gift of some staples for food for the next morning. The area was nice and quiet, it felt very private, yet super close to plenty of things to do with 15 minutes! Would stay again.
Well this is the place for anyone who wants a retreat from the, sometimes manic, life in Austin. It’s a little rustic but that only adds to the charm. You can enjoy the nightlife of Austin and retreat to your private little cottage in the middle of a quiet neighborhood. If you haven’t heard birds in the morning or cicadas at night you need to come here. So accessible from the 45 exchange. You are literally 20 minutes from downtown Austin. Do you want the best deal of both worlds? Stay here. Get a taste of real Texas.
The rental property was exactly like listed. It was very clean, well equipped, and stocked with all you could need to make a nice stay. A great touch was the breakfast food in the fridge! The area is quiet and relaxing,Beautiful neighborhood! Look for the deer :).The hosts were welcoming and made us feel at home. We already booked our next stay for the fall! Thanks, again!

Great place to stay for an Austin weekend (where you feel away from the city)
Loved our stay. It is a short drive up into Austin, but the cottage has nice away from the city feel, with lots of deer nearby. I would gladly stay here again. The owner provided eggs, bacon and English muffins made for a nice breakfast. I saw in a previous review that people were concerned about the driveway. It didn't cause me any issues and I was driving a Challenger, not exactly a high ground clearance off road vehicle.
We had a great time and the cottage was perfect for what we needed.
The accommodations were wonderful. Sage Cottage is a stand alone place with lots of privacy on a culdesac, big yard for my dog, and fenced in. This was our third time here and we wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else.(and we have before). The place is immaculate, has all the amenities we need. Very quiet. The kind owners are next door, and are always available if needed. Never intrusive. I liked sitting out on the front porch. It has an old fashioned feeling but with all the modern conveniences necessary. The location is close to the city and the driving is easy. The deer come out at night. That was always fun to look forward to each night.I highly recommend this rental for your next stay in Austin. We are already planning our return trip in the fall!
Timely and responsive communication with the owner. Her husband is the property manager.
Very quiet neighborhood. Roosters crowing good morning! I was in and out for 1.5 months to be close by to help out a family member. Aiden had fresh eggs, bacon, and oj waiting for my first breakfast(s). I stayed here in the winter so I cannot speak to the pool. The property manager is so accommodating
turning on the space heaters up and downstairs prior to my early evening arrivals. All in all a good find on vrbo.
This was our second time staying at Sage Cottage, and again we were thrilled with every bit of our visit. The owners went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable, easy and delightful. This meant a lot to us as we were in the middle of a pretty stressful home renovation about 20 minutes away in Austin. Knowing that we could come "home" to Sage Cottage helped us cope and stay happy as a family!! (No small feat during the stress of a project like this.) The peaceful grounds -- with deer, yucca, and purple sage -- made us feel we weren't just enduring a reno, but experiencing a great little vacay. We already miss the pool!! The real gems of this VRBO are John and Aedin. Both were communicative and supportive, while giving us plenty of space to just be ourselves in the house. Both went out of their way to support us after our garage got broken into on the site of our reno -- we were very freaked out and pretty heartbroken, and I don't think I'll ever forget their kindness as we struggled to get through that mess. They are the kind of folks the world needs more of -- and I'm really grateful to know them not only as VRBO contacts, but also as fellow South Austinites. Thank you John and Aedin!

Relaxing country house for single or couple
The goods- beautiful area, nice shade trees, Aiden was a wonderful host. When I arrived beginning of December the weather was perfect, the area quiet, deer were (lots of deer) wandering around the neighbor hood, and it was a great place to relax. Highways to town and surrounding areas are close by and
shopping and dining establishments are with in ten minutes drive. Interstates are close by so a trip to San Antonio is pretty easy (Be aware the Alamo is really crowded). Barbecue is close by north and south (Texas magazine has best rated Austin area BBQ-but try Valentinas which is the closest good one and my favorite).
Washer and dryer in out back shed.
The not so goods-you really only have two choices going north to Austin proper, construction to widen one starts this summer. Be aware, Austin drivers did nothing to negate their reputation for aggressive driving.
The house has no dressers. Be prepared to live out of your suitcase. Only one toilet, bath/shower. There is no TV so bring an ipad or kindle. Internet is around 0.5 MB so streaming content isn't really an option unless you can down load movies and watch later. Forget sports lest you want to go to a sports bar (couldn't watch college bowl games). Kitchen is set up for light breakfast, most of my meals were BBQ I brought home to eat later.
Austin has some awesome restaurants so I assume you won't be eating at home much.
Stairs are steep, mobility issues beware. My 55 yo knees took some time to get used to. Fireworks are legal and during xmas to New Year's, lots of booming, new years eve didn't stop till around 230a and I had to get up to got to airport at 0430.
Dog parks good-onion creek (closest one with water, lots of places to run, Red Bud (go early but our favorite), Walnut creek, and circle C (not an off leash park per se, but in back many early AM dog walkers do so off leash). Manchaca vet was great if you have an issue (https://www.yelp.com/biz/manchaca-village-veterinary-care-austin-2) and need a vet.
Dog not so goods, area yard not fenced, if your dogs roam, not so good. Weather was nice, i could keep doors open so dogs could go in and out but summer might be an issue. My 10 year old lab had issues with stairs, I eventually moved downstairs. My lab had bad anxiety due to fireworks (which aren't allowed every year, depends on rain and fire risk)
I would definitely stay again, but at different time of year.
We were looking for a quiet getaway and this property delivered. It was close to everything we wanted to do. I was surprised to learn so much of Austin is dependent on the highway system (this has nothing to do with the property). My imagination has us taking walks in little neighborhoods and visiting local coffee shops. Austin is spread out more than I expected. No biggie, it was still a fun weekend. Back to the property: it’s cute, like a little cottage. It has character and the bed was comfy. Also, I enjoyed the pool each day and having breakfast provided for the first morning was a wonderful touch. Thanks so much.
Aedin’s cottage is very cute. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and swimming in the pool. The location is close enough to Austin but far enough away to feel like you are somewhere different.
This is a great way to get a taste of simple living in a country setting, but with all benefits of being close to the city!
We were grateful to be able to stay with our pets while our house had work done.
The host is there for what you need.
I can’t say enough good about our experience with the lovely Sage Cottage. The Live Oak trees keep the sweet little cottage cool even in the Texas summer, and though you’re minutes away from busier Austin life, you really feel like you’re in the country. Deer are always nearby, poking around the yucca and other native plants on the property. We spent many mornings on the front porch listening to the birds, and many afternoons swimming in the glorious pool.
The house itself is utterly charming. Great kitchen, lots of provisions — even bacon and eggs when you arrive!! I’ve never seen a vrbo with excellent books in the library, and there were several favorites in the collection along with a few I had been meaning to read.
Upstairs is charming with hidden alcoves and antique wingback chairs. Super comfy bed!
Excellent ac. Great washer dryer. Plenty of hot water and I’m pretty sure the entire place runs on solar.
We stayed at the vrbo during a stressful renovation of our Austin home. We had a break in at our home during the reno, with thieves turning our garage completely upside down. John and Aedin were incredibly supportive during our resolution of this matter, going above and beyond in a million ways. They made sure we had a home away from home when ours was in chaos from both the renovation and burglary.
They’re just good people, and we feel incredibly fortunate we found peace at their gorgeous property during a really stressful time. Top notch!!
House was much bigger than expected, with a fenced in back yard and a gate in the front. Door key code made check in and the rest of our stay easy. We had FOUR dogs who felt very comfortable, and at home here as well. Hospitality of the hosts were immaculate and the privacy of the home location and that the hosts provided made for a very comfortable stay.
I had a great couple weeks staying at this cozy little college. It was a nice quiet escape where I could focus on my work. Everything was made very easy by the hosts too.
I stayed at the cottage for about a month so that I could get away from the daily grind and focus on writing. It was perfect; far enough out of the way to feel like you are out in the country, but close enough to the city to still have convenient access to retail/dining/etc. I didn’t do anything touristy, but if that’s your thing, downtown Austin is only a 30 minute drive and San Antonio is usually 90 minutes or less depending on traffic.
The hosts were out of town when I arrived, but breakfast fare was waiting in the refrigerator, and the air conditioner was running so I was comfortable right away. I was able to back my car up to the side porch and easily unpack the car through the double doors. This was super convenient for loading the car at the end of the trip as well. I had a few questions after I got settled and they were answered promptly, despite the hosts being away.
The place feels very private. I smoke, so I spent a fair amount of time on the front porch enjoying the shade and watching the rain when we were lucky enough to get a storm. I rarely saw or heard the hosts. They have a policy of not visiting unless there is an invitation or an emergency, which I appreciated since the goal of my trip was to be secluded. We did eventually meet at the pool and had a lovely conversation. They are very friendly and welcoming.
I believe some things have been updated since older reviews were written. The high-speed internet is easy to connect to and fast enough to stream movies. There is now small TV with a built in DVD player. It does not have cable, but local channels are clear on the antenna and there are some DVDs available along with the books and board games that others have mentioned. The floors appear to have been redone recently and are very nice. I don’t know if the stairs were redone, but I would NOT describe them as “narrow” or “steep” as was mentioned by another reviewer. I didn’t end up bring my dog, but there is now a gate at the driveway that encloses the entire yard, so he would have had plenty of space.
Overall, Sage Cottage was spacious, comfortable, clean, and had all the amenities that I expected. I would gladly stay there again. Thanks!

About the host
Hosted by Aedin
I am originally from Ireland, but have lived in Texas for about 25 years - most of it in this neighborhood. We are avid travelers and over the years when we traveled to Europe with our girls, we would have loved a service like Homeaway to help us find interesting places to stay with more flexibility than a hotel. (We have always preferred to steer clear of the hotel chains, resorts and heavily touristed areas.) Our goal is for you to experience your stay as a house guest rather than a hotel guest so you can have the type of relaxed and comfortable experience that we always seek in our travels. In addition to English, I also speak French and some German and I am currently taking Spanish lessons.
Why they chose this property
We like this neighborhood so much that when we moved house about twelve years ago, we just moved 3 blocks down the street!
What makes this property unique
Our home is on one acre in a very quiet and peaceful cul de sac and backs onto about 70 acres of undeveloped land. Sage Cottage is tucked away in a wooded area a short distance from our home. There is a very secluded in-ground pool available for our guests.
