About this property

Built during the heyday of the Grand Trunk Railway, on a residential street with ATV access, our 1858 house is an established part of the Androscoggin Valley, featuring modern updates for a comfortable self-catered stay.

Air conditioning in the living room and upstairs bedrooms.

Two king-size bedrooms and a full bathroom comfortably accommodate 4 adults. A smaller (downstairs) bedroom with a single bed is suitable for an additional adult or a child.

There is a living room with separate dining room, and the large fully-equipped kitchen is ideal if you prefer to eat-in. Free WiFi is available throughout the main living areas.

Equipment can be safely stored in the laundry room, accessible by the back door.

Gorham is a gateway to over 1400 miles of ATV trail systems and 6 interconnected parks (including Jericho State Park). There are numerous hiking trails and ATV / snowmobile trails within easy reach. Rentals are available from “Northeast” or "White Mt ATV" on Main Street.
You can ride right from the house along Main St (between Lancaster Road and Bangor St) to the trails! See https://gorhamnhoutdoors.com/ohrv-rules-gorham/ for details.

It's a short walk to Subway, Big Day Brewing and local cafés, as well as Gorham Common and Grand Trunk station (railway museum). Walmart is an 8-minute drive and Dollar General is a 10-minute walk away.

Surrounded by mountains and nestled between the White Mountains Highway (NH Route 16) and Route 2 in Gorham, we are conveniently situated for travel to nearby North Conway (NH) and Bethel, Maine.

Close to Mount Washington (Auto Road - 10 mins to the base area), Great Glen Trails (10 mins), Wildcat ski area (<15 mins) and numerous hiking trails including Tuckerman's Ravine - trailhead located by the Appalachian Mountain Club visitor center in Pinkham Notch.
Sunday River and Attitash are both <35 minutes away, Cranmore Mountain and Bretton Woods are 40 minutes away.

The Androscoggin River can be accessed from Main St (Route 2) near Gorham Airport and Howland Ave. For river adventures, check out North Woods Rafting just up Rt 16 in Milan.

For family days out, Santa’s Village and Story Land / Living Shores Aquarium are all under half an hour away.

Please note: This is an OLD house and as such has its creaks and quirks. The floors are not all level, the walls are crooked in places and there will be random noises but nothing to worry about.
Some guests consider that the stairs are fairly steep but the handrails help with this.

Be aware that if you stay during the week, you may be disturbed by the freight trains (SLR 393 / 394) that pass through Gorham around midnight and blast their horn. The town clock chimes on the hour every hour, so can be heard if the windows are open.

For our joint protection, there is a motion-triggered security camera on the front door and above the back door, pointing away from the house itself.

About the host

Host profile image
We live in the UK but have loved visiting the White Mountains Region since 2011. We are keen skiers and enjoy short hikes so have explored the area well.

Why they chose this property

Gorham is central to several ski areas including Wildcat, Sunday River and Bretton Woods with others not too far away. There are plenty of snowmobile / ATV trails to explore accessible from right in town and many walking / hiking trails are also close by. The town itself is not overly busy but has its fair share of bars, shops and restaurants.

What makes this property unique

Our house was built in 1858 so has its own character that we've sympathetically updated to make it feel like home.
