A classic cottage/home which offers access to Chesapeake Bay. Great water views of Linkhorn Bay, nestled among tall pines and oaks, with a dock for fishing and crabbing, a floating dock for easy access into kayaks/boats and boating access to Lynnhaven Inlet and then onto the Chesapeake Bay. Relax on the screened in porch, take a short drive to the beach, or visit the many interesting and exciting things to see and do in the Virginia Beach area. Approximately 1 hour away from Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown. Located in an quiet upscale neighborhood off Laskin Road. Perfect for a relaxing vacation conveniently located to shopping and excellent restaurants.

We had a fantastic time! The house is well stocked with all you'll need and more. Love the old-school feel, almost like stepping back in time. We biked to the oceanfront frequently, and spent lots of fun beach time on the north end, fishing and crabbing from the dock in the evening was a blast.

Christmas Trip

We had an awesome time, loved the history and neighbourhood. Filled the house with laughter and joy…became the central hub for all the grandkids (7) to meet up. Everything that we needed was there and ready.

Wonderful old beach cottage

This is the perfect place for a week in Virginia Beach. It’s in a beautiful neighborhood on a quiet cove within a couple of miles of the oceanfront. Out of the fray but close enough to take advantage of everything. The house had everything we needed and was so comfortable. We felt right at home and hated to leave.

Home away from Home

Nice property, although this oropert is an older home, it had everything one could ever imagine in charm and aoecial touches. I hosted my son and his fellow Marine friends. The young adults were able to relax and enjoy many home cooked meals. Very nice - if I'm back in the area will definately look into renting again.

Perfection in a vacation

I rented this house for my adult family although I wish my 20 something kids had been available. The setting is tranquil and full of family activities. The house is incredibly stocked and clean and the owners were so helpful. It is perfect for staying put and not feeling too crowded. We spent a lot of time on the porch, in the yard and on the water. It is the getaway we craved.

This home is a very special indeed. I don’t even know the words to describe how cozy we were here. We literally fell in love! The hosts are incredibly kind and accommodating - simply lovely people. The home lets you know right away that it is full of stories about what feels like generations of families who have enjoyed its rooms. If these walls could talk I would spend hours delightfully listening. From the well stocked kitchen to the welcoming sunroom where I worked for hours to literally “sitting on the dock of the bay” to the glorious outdoor shower …and on and on and on…this is a must stay! We will be back.

Family celebration

We've stayed in vacation properties around the world and Bruce's place ranks among the very best. It is extremely well equipped with everything we needed during our week-long stay. The house accommodated our two families with seven adults total very comfortably. The setting is lovely and ideal in many ways - it's close to the beach, restaurants, grocery stores, etc., and provides private, quiet waterfront retreat to relax and spend time with family. We enjoyed kayaking and crabbing off the deck. Bruce knew we were celebrating big birthdays, and we were amazed to find the dining room already decorated for the occasion complete with a bottle of wine and other thoughtful touches. Thanks for a wonderful and memorable stay!

Amazing ol world charm!

Step back into the days of a begone era in this former generals home on the Chesapeake Bay. A well stock larder that would rival any perfect homemaker. We had our son, daughter in law and two children join us for a weeks stay. Far enough away from downtown beach to be quiet and secluded. Close enough the kids were able to ride bikes to the beach. Enough board games to keep the kids entertained in the evening and Virginia Beach was kind enough to regale us with one of her thunder storms and heavy downpour! We plan to have family get togethers more often in VB and our first choice will be this stately home.

Your Home away from Home

This property was absolutely perfect for our family. The home was so unique and full of memorabilia from days gone by. It was fully stocked with everything one might need. The owner was responsive and communicated very quickly when we reached out. It is in a beautiful neighborhood on the water. Birds and other water fowl abundant. Each morning we drank coffee and sat outside to watch the birds. Tried crabbing and actually caught some but threw them back. Definitely would return to this beautiful area and this home. It is a home not a sterile rental property. Thank you Bruce for your hospitality.

Relative to the age of the home and property, the home was maintained in an above average condition. Outside Improvements can be made with shrub trimming and landscaping and an overall pressure washing of the exterior. Interior improvements can make the home more attractive with a better deep cleaning and better pest control for insects. The home had plenty of amenities that were available to us relative to our everyday needs. The home was family friendly which our children and grandchildren enjoyed.

Peaceful and Convenient

This property has many areas for sitting and reading or for conversations. We spent much time in the living area, dining area, and backyard. We loved the living area for ceiling to floor windows that brought the beautiful outdoors in. Oh, and a screened back porch! There are just so many areas to enjoy!! We had 7 adults in this home and everyone had plenty of space to either be together or find a cozy place to read or nap. One of our guests enjoyed showering in the outdoor shower. We grilled out one night. Everything is clean and ready for use. So many wonderful things about this property. It is in a beautiful, peaceful neighborhood but close to the beach and shopping or other attractions. So you can stay and relax or go and play.

Allow us to introduce ourselves. Our names are Alston and Bruce Johnson. Our Cottage has a very interesting history! The Cottage is historical in nature with a great story to share. The house is nestled on 2 acres of waterfront. Surrounded by old Virginia pines,a 70 year old Magnolia tree and gorgeous foliage. Our Cottage was build by my Grandfather, General Denig for his loving wife in 1947. It has been restored to reflect the charm and character of that era. The simplicity of natural oak flooring, 2 fireplaces, high ceilings and extremely large picture windows makes this home unique. Water views from most every window and beautiful sunsets keep our guests coming back. General Denig's cottage is one of the last existing summer cottages left in the prestigious Birdneck Point.

The Denig Cottage is peaceful, gracious, timeless and quaint. It has been in our family for years and has experienced much love, laughter and friendship.

What makes this property unique

Particularly for those who enjoy great scenery and quiet surroundings. Experience quiet all year around cottage living with beautiful Water Views. We like Winter walks on the beach too with trips to the Edgar Casey Foundation to enjoy their no cost lectures. Their spa offers to pamper yourself. We enjoy having excellent access to the beaches, First Landing State Park, the boardwalk, many stores, movie theatres, the aquarium and good restaurants; it is a fun place to visit all year around. Birdneck Point has a convenient community location which offers it all with access to the Chesapeake Bay inland coastal waterway and a five minute drive to the beach.
