Beautiful cabin with plenty of room for our group of 5. Comfy beds, cozy living room, well stocked kitchen. Within easy driving distance of Charlottesville and other small towns with shops and restaurants. Susan was responsive to our questions. Nice seating outside with plenty of rocking chairs; enjoyed my morning coffee there daily!
We really enjoyed our stay! The house is very private and clean. Check in/out was easy with clear instructions and Susan was very accommodating with any requests or questions. We would definitely come back!
We absolutely loved our time at this cabin. It is rustic but we were completely comfortable there with a family of 14! We had 6 cars and there was room to park them all with no problem. The best part is the outdoor fire pit! It was all I could do to get the family to come inside at night!!
This is our third time staying at this lovely cabin for a weekend golf trip. It was just as fantastic as always this time. We loved the upgrades to the fire pit area. We are already planning to come again next year.
Charming cabin retreat with all the modern amenities and rustic charm. The owner was terrific and very responsive to some questions. Enjoyed hiking and proximity to wineries, cool evenings by the fire pit.
Cizy cabin withgood appliances, wifi, and lots if room. Great secluded mountsin lication eith easy access to Charlottesville 30 min away. Owner really great and available. We loved it snd will go back Just know your in the mountains so its a hike driving out but super doable
For us it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The perfect location for a UVa friends reunion. I was worried that the cabin would feel small because lots of photos are smaller than how they appear, but it was just right. Truly grateful I found this place.
Great property, very secluded, everything as-advertised. A lot of character without being kitschy about it. Would stay again, everyone had a great time.
My wife and I love the location of the cabin and how its kinda secluded. We went hiking and relaxed by the fire pit..The cabin is lovely! We will book again..
Property was beautiful, the views amazing. Feel likt the host thought of everything a family would need. Definitely comfortable and cozy. Super beautiful too. Would recommend and stay again there!! Thank you !
Excellent place and we want to come back soon. If you like to relax, enjoy nature, get away from it all and sit in a rocker on the porch of an awesome cabin in the woods, this is the place for you. Rustic modern and wonderful.
We loved staying in this secluded house. It is beautiful and peaceful. We also enjoyed the hiking trails around the property. The beds were a little uncomfortable but overall a great stay!
Thank you for a wonderful weekend in the woods! Despite having rainy weather, we enjoyed ourselves -- the fire was cozy, the walks in the forest made us happy, and we enjoyed the quiet.

About the host
Hosted by Susan Pierce
This property was purchased by our Grandfather in 1953 as a working apple orchard. As a local Charlottesville businessman, he wanted to create a country getaway on the mountain. We've made his dream a reality by relocating, restoring, and enlarging the original log cabin. Our extended family spends holidays and long weekends here. We also own the next closest house, a 10 minute walk - an attractive timber frame/log house built in 2000, and renovated in 2020. Ask us about it - it's available too!
Why they chose this property
When you really want to get away from it all, this is the place. This double, restored log cabin is located on 400 acres of forested mountainside. Wildlife abounds; bear, variety of bird species, raccoons, deer, bobcats, flocks of turkeys. On a clear night the sky is dense with bright stars (UVA conservatory is located close by because light pollution is so low). Once or twice a day you can hear a train whistle far in the distance, to take you back a century. The cabin is centrally located to the area's wineries. Charlottesville is so close by that in 20 minutes you can be at a UVA football game or University of Virginia graduation, or at the historic mall complete with its outdoor pavilion and live performances. It's the same distance in the other direction to Wintergreen Ski Resort. There are many activities within easy distance along scenic local byways; historic locations such as Thomas Jefferson's Monticello in Charlottesville and the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton (not a typical museum, but instead an experiential gem, especially if you have youngsters and teens with you), cultural experiences such as Blackfriar's Shakespeare Theater, Kluge - Ruhe Aboriginal Art Museum, outdoor adventures such as tubing and canoeing on the James River and hiking, apple and strawberry picking, Skyline Drive for fall colors, antique stores, wineries, breweries, horse shows, golf, fine dining, contra dancing, Lock'n Music Festival, Blue Ridge Rock Festival, and much more! 18 miles to the convergence of the southern entrance of Shenandoah National Park’s Skyline Drive, the northern entrance of the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Appalachian Trail, and U. S. Bicycle Route 76. Hike or Bike the newly restored Claudius Crozet Blue Ridge Tunnel one way or out-and back. (Flashlights/headlamps necessary.)
What makes this property unique
This historic log cabin is food for the soul. If you want a special weekend or long-weekend for a special someone or a special birthday, or you just want a complete change of pace, this is the place for you. Where else can you have the experience of the American Frontier, within a few hours of major east-coast cities, but with all of the amenities of modern homes. It may be hard to imagine the sounds of yesteryear - bird songs of dozens of native and migrating bird species, the rustle of breezes in the trees, a train whistle in the distance... You may be graced with a rare sighting of wildlife, and will certainly experience the lifting of spirits that come with a fresh air / outdoor lifestyle.
