About this property

Wonderful family cottage with beautiful, huge, white sand Lake Michigan beach

This summer cottage has been in the same family for 50+ years. They have recently made it available for rent so that you may make your own fabulous summer memories on Lake Michigan. It's still used by the family, so it's homey and well-loved; not stark and impersonal. If you appreciate a quaint, quiet, comfortable, clean place to reconnect with family, friends, and nature, you have found it.

This cozy cottage will remind you of summers spent with grandparents, playing outside and on the beach all day, and board games at night. Two-hundred feet of beautiful, sandy Lake Michigan shoreline is shared with two other cottages. There is always room for everyone to have their own area. Lake Michigan is fickle, and the lake level goes up and down cyclically, but we always have a big beach. Currently it is huge!

A large lawn separates the cottage from the path to the beach. There is no view of the lake or beach from the cottage. They are about 80 yards away.

Three bedrooms sleep 8 people: One has a double bed, one has a queen bed, and one has bunk beds and a double bed. The single bathroom has a shower. As there is no washer/dryer at the cabin, we ask that you please bring your own sheets, towels, beach towels, and dish towels. All necessary silverware, tableware, glassware, and cooking items are provided.

This area is a mecca for sun, sand, and watersports in the summer. Silver Lake and the famous sand dunes are 10 minutes away; Stony Lake is 15 minutes away. Silver Lake offers rentals of dune buggies, kayaks, pontoon boats, waterskiing, tubing, and more. There are several golf courses within 15 minutes; horseback riding within 15 minutes; Lewis Farm and Adventure Park is 20 minutes away.

Beautiful place for Vac on Lake Michigan

We love this place! We spent another week in the cottage (second summer in a row) and no doubts this is a very nice place for you if you like Lake Michigan Vacations. Beautiful sandy beach and pretty comfortable cottage fitted all of us pretty well.

We had a great time at the cottage but I’d be cautious if you have mobility impaired people. It’s a short walk down a hill to the stairs that lead to the beach, so no direct lake access. Also, the cabin is an original so has the musty cabin smell. Window AC in living room and ceiling fans in bedrooms. Bring lots of towels and extra bath mats. Otherwise it’s a great, rustic experience!

Location

If you want to enjoy lake Michigan without a crowd this is the place. Great beach for walking and swimming. It's all beautiful sand! We never left the entire week. We brought food to prepare. The kitchen had pretty much everything we needed. The charcoal grill was excellent.And the sunsets are gorgeous! Location location location! Our family loves it here. It was our second time staying there. We are very grateful for our time spent together in such a beautiful location.

As advertised! Our family needed kid and beach friendly - and it is! Front bed room would be better served with a Queen size bed. And why not bug bomb inside cabin between 10 and 4 on Saturday? (Bug bites during sleeping hours)

Quaint Cottage on Beautiful Lake Michigan

The property at 1673 S Glen Road near Shelby, MI was clean, comfortable, and perfect for our family of four. You can hear the waves crashing on the shores of Lake Michigan from the screened porch and walk down the hill to see the sunset or play at the beach. The beach has plenty of room to spread out and was clean and pristine. We got lots of use out of the fire pit roasting marshmallows for s'mores, and there's plenty of outdoor seating for a larger group and trees for hanging hammocks. The property owner was responsive and helpful, and the property was exactly as listed. Definitely recommend to anybody looking for a family-friendly place to stay, away from the hustle and bustle of Silver Lake but still close by.

Our Happy Place

We had another amazing stay at the Kerr Cabin! We love the location, easy to get to Pentwater, Ludington, Silver Lake, and really any other place in the area. The beach is a very short walk down an incline and about 35 steps to get you on your own private beach! Incredible sunsets with beautiful colors. The cabin itself is a perfect size for our family. There is only one bathroom with a small shower but we made it work. We did use the window air conditioner in the livingroom for a couple of days and it worked well. It did get to the bedrooms, but with a fan would have been better. Kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes, glasses, and some spices to use. There is a grocery store in Hart, which is near by, to get all of your groceries. Cherry Pointe Farm and Market just down the street to get delicious pastries, tshirts, candles, puzzles, jellies, jams, and other items. My mother-in-law and LOVE Barbara Bull's, owner of the market, book series of the MacLeod Family!! Book #11 was just delivered this past week!!This was our 3rd time staying at the cabin and hopefully will return next year!!

Enjoyable Stay

Nice clean semi-rustic cabin. Great location in the woods. Just a few easy steps to the huge shared beach. No wi-fi or cell coverage is a big plus in our opinion! Only knock...No functional landline phone was available for emergencies.

Perfect Getaway

We loved, loved this house! Amazing location ... just steps away from a large private beach and nicely situated between Stony Lake and Silver Lake. Large yard with fire pit for stargazing. Great screened in porch for coffee and relaxing. The house was immaculate and comfortable with 3 nice bedrooms and the right amount of "woodsy" charm that we love when relaxing in a cottage in Michigan. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

First and foremost, the entire property was extremely clean.

So nice to relax and enjoy Lake Michigan on our beautiful private beach shared with just a couple other houses. Really enjoyed the birds chirping and water rushing to the shore! Loved our stay, didn't want to leave this place. Thanks for keeping it so clean, that's so important!

Wonderful stay!!

My entire family thoroughly enjoyed this quiet cottage! It was a bit strange not having WiFi or phone service but it was a needed change to get our focus back to family and spending time together. We were actually able to watch the Detroit Tigers play on tv! We were able to get service up the road or on our way to other places so not having service was not bad at all. The short walk to the beach was not too bad. Down a small incline then steps and we were on our own private beach!! Out of the 3 house, which share the beach, there were only 2 of us. Perfect Lake Michigan weather and sunsets! The cottage itself was as described. The rooms were perfect sizes with comfortable beds. The only thing we needed for the beds were sheets. Blankets and pillows were already there. The bathroom was larger than expected but the shower very small. There is not air conditioning but our week did not need it. There also is not a phone for emergencies as stated, but none was needed. Terry, the owner, came by a couple of times and was very friendly and accommodating. He even dropped off firewood for our bonfires. Oh, and the sky was full of stars while we enjoyed those magnificent fires! This is definitely a place we will come back to for another perfect Lake Michigan vacation!!

Great location

This was a great vacation for my family neighbors where great. Location great. Everything was wonderful the only complaint that the property was listed that it had air conditioning. When we first got there it wasn’t such a big deal and not that the property owners can control the weather. It turned out to be way hotter then we expected I had to spend extra money to buy fans which I would of brought from home if I knew there would not be air. We also had a drop in with the Orikin man for bug spraying it would of been nice for a little heads up because we didn’t know if it was supposed to happen or not so we turned him away. All in all great time.

Lake Michigan Vacation

My wife and I along with 5 of our grandchildren very much enjoyed our stay at the Kerr Cabin. The beach and lake were great and the kids had a wonderful time. The neighbors were friendly. The fire pit was great and we enjoyed s’mores every night. We were a bit disappointed that the cabin had no air conditioning, as we thought this was one of the reasons we rented the cabin. Perhaps we misread the cabin information. In any event we had a great time.

Wonderful Getaway

The location is wonderful with a beautiful quiet setting overlooking the private beach on Lake Michigan. The cottage is cozy. Linda was very easy to work with. My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We definitely were unplugged, as there is no cell phone service, no internet and very limited satellite service on the television. This was a blessing for the most part as we enjoyed each others company, played games and soaked in the atmosphere. The only down side was that we weren't familiar with the area so it was hard to see what activities were available and opening and closing times with no phone/internet service. I would suggest a DVD player be put in the cottage.
