About this property
Spectacular mountain beauty and comfort at Hawkes Hill in Golden BC
Hawkes Hill is a peaceful country getaway 12 minutes south of Golden with spectacular views overlooking the Columbia River valley hosted by Bill since 2015. Be wowed by our fully furnished, two bedroom self contained suite with a wrap-around deck and a million dollar view. We're proud to say that our guests continue to review us as SuperHosts through all these years.
When comparing nightly fees, please note that we do not charge an additional cleaning fee on top of your quoted fee.
Hawkes Hill is a fully equipped two bedroom suite adjacent to, but fully independent of, the owner’s home. The suite is full of sunlight and looks out over the Columbia River valley and the Purcell Mountains to the west and the Rockies to the east. Our guests tell us we have the million dollar view. To the north we overlook a wooded meadow perfect for cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter and easy walks or hiking during the rest of the year.
The suite sleeps four comfortably. The master bedroom features a queen size bed. The second bedroom has two twins. (PLEASE SEE FEE NOTE BELOW.)
A large spacious living area off the bedrooms and bathroom makes up the rest of the suite and combines a kitchen and sitting area with a wood stove. The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, fridge, microwave, dishes and utensils. Wi-Fi is available as well as satellite tv.
Price listed is for two people using one bedroom. For a 3rd and 4th person, add $25/night per person each.
PLEASE NOTE: our basic fee is calculated for two people sharing the same room. If two people wish to use both rooms for their comfort, please confirm with us before booking. Using both rooms increases our cleaning load and cost so we need to add a $25/stay fee when two people using both bedrooms. Otherwise we do not charge a cleaning fee. Thanks.
Minimum two night stay, however the constant feedback we receive from our guests is that they wished they had booked for at least three nights or more.
We live in the main house adjacent to the suite and are accessible if the need arises. We love meeting guests and hearing about their lives and travels, but we also respect a mutual need for privacy. For your arrival we have stocked the kitchen with tea, coffee fixings, cooking oil and some condiments to make you welcome.
We strive to provide a comfortable place for our guests to relax and enjoy their holiday, and we ask that guests are considerate and respectful of our home and beautiful environment. No smoking on the property, please. No parties. Please ask us about bringing your dog. There is a pet fee.
Surrounded by five national parks and close to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, we are situated in a breathtaking mountain wilderness only 3 hours from the Calgary International Airport. In the winter most guests are here to ski or board at the resort. In the summer, almost all of our guests will use Hawkes Hill as their home base to go off visiting all the sites like Lake Louise, Banff, Columbia Ice Fields, Emerald Lake etc.
As well as the adventure playground outside our door, Golden is well known for an active arts scene featuring two dozen concerts of music, theatre and dance annually. On the Valentine's Day weekend, the Snow King & Lady Spring come into town for our annual MasqueParade outdoor pageant in Spirit Square. Throughout the summer, there are free mid-week concerts featuring touring festivals artists in Golden's Spirit Square. Check out Kicking Horse Culture online for more info.

Everything was fabulous. It is a beautiful location. The kitchen was well stocked and everything was just very comfortable. The hot tub and the wood-burning stove was a nice touch for a winter stay. Bill was very responsive. Would like to stay again.
My wife and I stayed for a weekend getaway and had a fantastic time! Bill was very helpful and kind in ensuring we arrived safely through some blizzard weather. The hot tub was well maintained, the views incredible, and the place super cozy. We were leaving wishing we had a few more nights to stay!Don't let the opportunity to stay here pass you by.
This place has very comfortable beds, furniture, great layout, and clean. The host was friendly and knowledgeable of the area. We would definitely recommend this property.
Fabulous place to stay just outside Golden. Beautiful view from the balcony and the accommodation itself is extremely comfortable. Bill couldn’t have been more helpful both in settling is in and in giving brilliant recommendations for how to make the most of our stay. Would highly recommend without any reservations.
Comfortable, quiet, cozy and simply a remarkable rental! The host, Bill, is extremely knowledgable about the area and anything you may want to do while visiting.I enjoyed white water rafting, visiting 3 National Parks and taking long walks on trails on the property.

Thanks very much, Helen! It was lovely to welcome you back again to Hawkes Hill on your summer visit ... and have a little chance to 'visit' while you were here. All the best to you, Helen! :)
Great stay at Hawkes Hill - nothing could have been better. Bill was an excellent host and was so kind to give us a vase with some of his beautiful flowers to enjoy during our stay! We also enjoyed Bill's sweet and lovable cat, Bella!
Wonderful property with fantastic views. Tha accommodations were very clean and very comfortable. It was a perfect location to explore several National Parks and Provincial Parks..
Very nice accommodation in a peaceful setting with fantastic views from the deck. Everything went as planned and would recommended this apartment for anyone with a car looking to hang out in Golden
Peace and quiet with the best views of the Colombia River. Comfy accommodations and only a short drive to Golden. And to top things off, Bill is the best host! Thanks again Bill for the wonderful stay and we’ll be sure to stay again if we are ever passing through.
Amazing views of the Columbia wetlands. Apartment is very comfortable, beautiful, & clean. Bill was a attentive & pleasant host. We did not cook because we ate dinner with family, not on site. But, all appliances were in good condition. My only concern is identifying the drive way after dark. I would recommend solar lights with a large address ## for clear identification. We would definitely return and highly recommend to others!
We had such a great week in Golden. Bill went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything that we needed. This location was perfect for exploring hikes in Yoho and Golden. He also gave us plenty of recommendations for nearby things to see and do. One of a kind property! The views from the deck were the best way to start and end each day.

The owner has thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. The views from the deck are amazing, great place to sit after a long day with a glass of wine. The hot tub with reviews was a bonus! Would definitely stay here again!

About the host
Your host
We are Maggie Calladine & Bill Usher. Maggie used to teach music, dance, and drama to elementary school students in Golden and has recently retired. Bill is the executive and artistic director of Kicking Horse Culture. We moved here from Toronto in 2001/02 and first lived in a cabin in the Blaeberry Valley. We moved to this house in 2003 and finished the suite addition in 2010. We opened Hawkes Hill in 2015 and very proud to say our guests have voted us SuperHosts for four years running. We named the home “Hawkes Hill” after Thomas Hawkes who lived on the land back in the 1930’s.
