About this property

City's Hippest Neighborhood.

This is truly a special place for your Boston visit
The House
If you are unfamiliar with Boston, a real home with a garden in the city proper is quite rare. You will find that living in this unique space allows you and your companions to truly relax and enjoy each other's company. It has all the charm you would want including eclectic art, comfortable bedrooms, a fully stocked open floor plan kitchen and a wonderful deck and garden.

The Bedrooms
There are a total of 4 bedrooms, Three are on the second floor and share a bath. They have excellent queen beds with lovely cotton sheets and plenty of pillows. The Master bedroom with a king bed and bath is on the third floor. It's like being in a tree house because you have huge windows. Don't worry, there are blackout shades for a great sleeping experience. If you bring more folks, there is a single Ikea bed as well as two air mattresses if you need them.

The Kitchen and Garden
The kitchen is stocked with everything you'll need. Coffee and tea and perhaps a bottle of something fun will be waiting for your arrival. The deck off the kitchen leads down to your exclusive patio with a grill. If you have kids, the garden is a great place to play while the adults are having drinks on the deck. The place is so quiet that you can hear crickets in the summer. It's sublime.

Why Stay in Jamaica Plain?
Boston has several distinct neighborhoods - each with its own flavor. "JP" is considered the hippest neighborhood in the City, with great restaurants, pubs, bakeries, parks and a subway line that takes you to the major sights in 15 minutes. Don't forget Fenway Park! It's a quick Uber ride away.

The Food
If you're a foodie, you're in the right place. You are only a 7 minute walk to the neighborhood center where you can pretty much get any cuisine that you want - Thai, Mexican, Cuban, Vietnamese, felafel, ramen, breakfast, pub burgers and old time meatloaf- you name it, JP's got it - even Scottish haggis. Third Cliff bakery is a new addition to the neighborhood. Get there early on the weekend and don't let the line intimidate you. It moves quickly. So many choices- go out for a bite to eat or grill dinner or bring back Thai takeout.

The Great Oudoors
Often called "The Eden of America," JP has the largest percentage of greenspace per capita of any large city in the country. Take a walk from the house to Jamaica Pond or the Arnold Arboretum. Or go the other direction and run around the second oldest public golf course in the US at Franklin Park. It's also home to the Zoo.

What a divine and relaxing home! This is our favorite home we’ve ever rented. The patio and garden was also such a treat. Perfect location near the T and my favorite Fiore’s Bakery.

We loved our Jamaica Plain VRBO. Margaret was very accessible, her home was very comfortable, and we loved the area. There was a nearby park for morning walks, several walking distance eateries and grocery stores, and the commuter train station was just a few blocks away, making it easy to get in to Boston or head over to Harvard. The neighborhood was very friendly and easy to navigate. I would definitely stay at Margaret's home again.

The property is an older, occupied home. The owner's personal effects can be found throughout, such as clothes under the beds and books and papers on the bookshelves in the bedrooms. We cooked a few meals, and it was nice to have kitchen basics, as well as ground coffee and tea bags, provided. It was conveniently located near a bus stop to Prudential Center and the Orange line on the T. Parking is on the street only, but we found spots near the house and mostly took public transportation.

To visitors: the City only allows short term rentals by permanent residents who open their homes to guests. It's part of Boston's charm to stay in our carefully restored historical dwellings. If you want new, look for a rental outside of the City proper.

Perfect place for our family vacation. Loved the location, all the amenities, easy check-in and checkout and friendly host. The only thing to mention for young families are that the stairs are very steep for infants. Host had baby gate and large playpen which helped.

About the host

Hosted by owner/property manager

Host profile image

Hello! I'm a Texas native that hasn't lost my "ya'll" even though I've lived in Boston for over 30 years. I spend most of my time outdoors - enjoying my garden, walking in nearby nature preserves, going on long, long bike rides, and escaping to the beach. I actually love winter because I ski in the parks near my house every day when there's snow on the ground. I'm a political liberal, inveterate traveler and amateur classical musician though I love music of all sorts.

Why they chose this property

I live in the popular neighborhood of Jamaica Plain. People want to live and visit Jamaica Plain because it has a hip vibe, is close to downtown, and has the most parks in the entire metropolitan area. My home is on a short two block street with primarily row houses. It's at the foot of Sumner Hill which is filled with Victorian Mansions. It's fun to stroll around and imagine upper class life in the late 1800's. There is also a house dating from the 1700's on the main drag - Center Street. That's where the action is and it's only a 5 minute walk from my house. The Arnold Arboretum and Franklin Park total over 500 acres of open space and are less than a 10 minute walk. They are part of the Emerald .Necklace Greenway which was designed by Olmstead - who also designed Central Park. The wonderful lake, Jamaica Pond, is also nearby. Most of my guests love to take a walk or run in the Arboretum.

What makes this property unique

In a city of such density, it's hard to find a true home that's available for short-term rentals. Moreover, it is set on a quarter acre of land so you have plenty of room to spread out. Most people like to sit on the deck and enjoy the weather while grilling dinner. However, although you may be tempted to throw a party while you're here, gatherings are not permitted.
