This is where your full itinerary might just become "stay at the cabin all day"—and that happens more often than you'd think. Curl up with a book by the fire. Watch a movie on the large projector screen. Play games together. Listen to the rain on the roof. Sip your morning coffee in peaceful silence. The cabin invites you to slow down, and you'll be grateful for it.

Nature at Your Doorstep

Mornings begin with birdsong and coffee on the porch. Evenings end with sunsets over the pond and starlit gatherings around the fire pit (complete with magical string lights). In between, you can paddle the pond, spot frogs and turtles, make s'mores, wander quiet woods and backroads, or simply watch the world go by from your private sanctuary.

The cabin was gorgeous and cozy - every detail was perfect. The trails right out the front door were lovely for a walk in the snow on a weekend of subzero temps and the woodstove kept us warm the entire time. The kitchen was perfect for cooking all of our meals and the hosts were attentive. Can’t say enough about this place!

This cabin surpasses the description online - it is perfect! It's tucked away and cozy, plus there were so many cool & thoughtful bits included (the projection screen, the fire place, the twinkle lights). It's super clean and nicely furnished in a homey way - not a hotel way. The book choices around the place are also excellent! We loved being walking distance to the Bob Cameron loop and being able to spend a half-day exploring Ithaca. This cabin has that secluded feeling while also providing everything you could possibly need. We're already trying to plan another stay in the summertime.
Lit up when we arrived - a super sweet welcome

We loved the cabin! The kitchen is so cute and the attention to detail in decor and layout is incredible. String lights on the porch and around the outdoor fire pit created such a warm and cozy atmosphere in the evenings. The chairs near the pond were the perfect places to spend the cool crisp mornings!

My husband and I were looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway for a long weekend. This was the perfect place. The area is quiet and private. The log cabin is idyllic. It created the exact mood we were hoping for. The house was immaculate. The hosts were thoughtful and generous, leaving little essentials, such a sugar, salt, pepper, paper towels, dish soap, fire wood, etc. It was worth every penny. We would definitely book here again.

This was one of my favorite rentals of all time and we travel a lot! What a beautiful and charming place. We paddled in the boat which all of the kids and adults loved. Made s’mores, walked in the woods, relaxed on the porch and even watched a movie on a rainy day. Thank you for providing such a magical space and retreat. We have highly recommend it to others and we will be back!

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The kitchen was especially nice - while we had most of our meals out, we almost wished we had planned to cook some dinners in due to how nicely stocked it was and the quality of the kitchen appliances/utensils. The cabin is clean, cozy, and nicely designed. Using the projector screen for movies and having the fire pit to sit around at night were nice pluses! The cabin is also a perfect location from sites such as Watkins Glen, Ithaca, and other state parks. The only note I would make is to be cautious when getting in and out of the beds on the far side - the low angle of the ceiling means you might bump your head!

This cabin in the woods was exactly what we were looking for. It was the perfect location on Tower Road. Nice and quiet and out of the way. The interior and exterior were lovely and much thought was put into the all-around experience. Quality furnishings and kitchen utensils. Everything we needed was there. Loved seeing the frogs and wildlife in the pond. Will reserve this again in the future! Thanks so much.

Don't hesitate to book this cabin!! The location is perfect as a home base for state parks and lakes. We enjoyed early morning hikes in the nearby state parks and forests and afternoons or evenings relaxing on the porch or pond and by the fire. Check-in was simple and the kitchen- amazing - is thoughtfully crafted and well stocked. We cooked several meals. The beds and couches are comfortable and it is clear that Kim and Ed have thought about even the smallest details, such as motion sensor nightlights on the stairs and artwork throughout the home. We loved the home and the grounds. Frogs, turtles, birds, stars... We would definately book again and stay longer.

Absolutely loved this cabin! Perfect location. Far enough away for privacy yet only 20-30 minutes from stores and great hiking. Stayed a week and didn't want to leave, felt like home. Property manager was very quick to answer any questions and even kept us updated on approaching bad weather. They even came out the same day to provide us with what we needed to cook on the open fire pit. Highly recommend!!!!!

Nice place

Very clean probably the cleanest vrbo we've experienced. New everything. Woodstove was nice to have as it rained most nights we stayed. Kitchen well stocked with utensils Missed having a washer and dryer but we made due. Definitely a private country setting, it's a hike to civilization. Kids loved the pond - frogs and salamanders galore.

Perfect!

The cabin was a little slice of heaven! We loved feeling isolated in the woods, but being 20 minutes away from all the restaurants and activities. The cabin was so comfortable and well-appointed. The kitchen was fabulous and the decor was charming. Our dogs loved going for walks on all the quiet backroads and trails around the property. Hopefully, next time we'll visit during a warmer/drier/sunnier week. The porch and firepit were so inviting, but it was just too chilly and wet to fully enjoy those amenities. We absolutely loved the stay!

Our family of 5 loved this cabin! It was cozy and felt like home immediately. Inside we appreciated the wood-burning stove, games, and projector, and outside we had a lot of fun in the boat/pond and walking around the property. Kim was an excellent, responsive host, quick to answer questions or offer suggestions. The love that Kim and Ed have poured into restoring the Cain was evident everywhere from the craftsmanship and beautiful materials used all the way down to the tiny details and decor. The kitchen was the best we have ever had in a vacation rental - well-stocked and functional, and the quality of everything from the dinnerware to the skillets was great. We were easily able to cook all of our meals here. We also appreciated the proximity to several beautiful state parks (Watkins Glen, Buttermilk, Robert Treman, and Taughannock) and recommend seeing them all using this cabin as a home base! Plan ahead for gas and groceries while you’re out exploring and then fully relax into the solitude of the cabin when you return. Absolutely recommend!!!

I was looking for a relaxing getaway in the fall. I just couldn't find what I was looking for. I stumbled on this cabin on VRBO after looking for hours in different cities and I said THAT IS IT.When we got to the cabin I just couldn't quit smiling it was secluded, beautiful surroundings as it was Peak fall season. The drive to even get to the cabin was gorgeous, back roads. My favorite. The inside was so cozy. It is all newly renovated, modern conveniences but so cabin feeling. No bugs, no spiders, no cobwebs. Very clean. The owners thought of everything. The decor was spot on even a fluffy cozy blanket on the coach. New Stove, new refrigerator. They do have a projection TV but don't let that stop you it works just like a TV. We had no problems setting it up. Huge screen. Loved it. The main floor is all livable space and they designed the loft upstairs for the beds, which we loved. My husband said I have never slept so good. We got there late on our first night and I was so excited to drink coffee on that porch (I Did)but it was a chilly morning so we made a morning fire and sat there for a few hours drinking coffee until I went in and made some Bacon and Eggs. We had all kinds of plans for our four-day vacation but we said to each other let's just stay here today. No hesitation from me. We didn't want to leave. The town of Ithaca is only maybe 15 minutes with anything you need. i.e. Walmart. Many restaurants. Dont miss Watkins Glen and so many other state park

About the host

Hosted by Kim and Ed

Host profile image
We--Kim Bostwick and Ed Scholes--are long-time biologists and naturalists, who've traveled the world studying birds. We currently live in Trumansburg, NY, where we have lived for 18 years raising our two children.

We have lovingly renovated this cabin, carefully considering every detail for aesthetics and functionality. We've worked hard to keep our building resources local and sustainable, and to employ local-working carpenters and masons whenever possible.

The results have been two years in the making, from January of 2023 all the way through 2024, and we are eager to finally begin renting in the Spring of 2025.

We look forward to offering something we think is very special by sharing this space with guests who appreciate the peace and serenity of nature and natural places as much as we do. We hope you start your stay feeling delighted and comfortable, and you leave your stay feeling refreshed and satisfied.

Why they chose this property

We love that our cabin is private and removed from traffic and noise, and somehow manages to be in something of a geographic "center" between three awesome towns (Ithaca, Watkins Glen, and Trumansburg), and four awesome state parks, each showcasing different and stunning versions of the area's famous lush green gorges (Treman, Buttermilk Falls, Watkins Glens, and Taughannock Falls).

At a finer scale, our property is effectively surrounded by the Connecticut Hill Wildlife Management Area (WMA), such that we have access to endless trails and seasonal roads, crossing through diverse forest and creek habitats, The forests and fields of the WMA are managed to support diverse and abundant wildlife. Such "wilderness" is relatively rare to find in central New York.

What makes this property unique

Three things make our property unique: (1) the elevation and (2) the nearby state land, and (3) the healthy native plants and animals.

The Elevation:
At 2050' of elevation, just 40' short of Connecticut Hill’s (and Tompkins Counties) highest point, we are one of the highest residences around, regionally. This elevation means the air is always fresh and refreshing in the summer, and the snow is the best around in the winter.

The Surrounding State Land:
There are a handful of residences around the boundary of the WMA, and no paved through roads in Connecticut Hill which greatly reduces traffic and its associated noise to a minimum.
It's generally very peaceful and quiet.

Lovely Natural Plants and Animals:
We have been excited to uncover numerous signs of healthy native populations of frogs and salamander, trees and small forest wildflowers on our property.
