The ease of communication with the host and the comfort was outstanding. The view and being over the river while in the living room was amazing. We can’t wait to plan a trip back when it’s warm!
An amazing place to stay. The cabin is rustic with plenty of room to spread out. You step out on the deck and it is like paradise. There are not enough dish towels and bath towels/wash cloths. The mattresses need a major upgrade. Cleanliness? The only way I can explain it is that it is man clean. I don't have issues with it as we stay in rural cabins in upper Michigan so it isn't new to me but don't expect to walk into a white glove environment. Embrace that and you'll have a great time. We fished and had a blast. Broadway Grill is awesome and close enough to walk to. Try the chicken quesadillas. Hope Ed will have us back. Thanks Ed!

We were able to stay with 4 adults, one child and our two dogs and it was great! We loved being able to fish right at the property and we caught lots of fish! We had a great time.

We had a great get away in this cabin. We enjoyed the quirkiness of the inside and the absolute beauty of the outside. There was plenty of room for our family. We saw plenty of wildlife during our stay as well.
When the first guests arrived, the lawn had weeds up to their knees. The host was contacted and he came over right away to mow it. The air conditioning did not work. Three of us had to sleep in the living room the first night. The host bought an air conditioner for upstairs but the coolest the house got to was 76. My daughter left to come home after the first night. The house was very dirty. The bedding was not clean. We went and purchased sheets and pillow cases to put over the ones there. We went and purchased more wash clothes and towels because there was only a set of four, when there was seven people. The shower was disgusting. Globs of hair in the drain and dirty. There was a used bar of dirty soap left in the shower. The walls and windows were covered with cobwebs. The smell in the house was so bad, they tried to cover it up with air fresheners, but it only made it worse. The floors were dirty and had not been cleaned in a while. One of the bedrooms was missing a shade. The host was notified and one was put up the next day. The deck was dirty and full of cobwebs, which was taken care of. Dead bugs were all over the house. It’s unfortunate the house was in disarray because with the river it would be a great location. The house should not be advertised as being air conditioned because even with air conditioning, it couldn’t bring the temp below 76.
Quiet getaway with nice river access- BYO comforts
I took my daughter and 4 friends to this house as a getaway on the river. The girls had a lot of fun paddling up and down stream, checking out the sleepy downtown, and doing aerial yoga at All Things Serenity Yoga & Event Center (Paula is FANTASTIC and I recommend her establishment highly).
The people of Union City were very kind and quick to make suggestions. We very much enjoyed the recommended Binder Zoo, the obstacle course there, and even got to pet giraffes!
Bring your own comfort items and possibly folding chairs. This house has NO extras.
Pros:
-The host was super quick (moments) in responding. There were 2 adult and 1 teen kayak on site, so he also connected us with a kind fellow who rented us additional kayaks cheaply delivered to the house.
-The slip/dock made launching kayaks easy
-Cute firepit area and shaded grass for lounging
-Decking around the house seems new
-Quiet location with no resident neighbors
-basic grocery store across the street for supplies
-WIFI works (but slows/stops occasionally)
Cons:
-Not enough supplies (towels, plates, silverware, etc) for more than one use/day and NO extra conveniences
-the place "needs a woman's touch" as it definitely feels like a bachelor's fishing house
-the upstairs "master" suite had a distinct odor and the sauna room off the half bath was unusable.
-Mysterious groups of dead ants in the upstairs bedroom every morning with no obvious cause (no other bug problems noticed & surprisingly few mosquitos!)
Thanks Ed!
