Not as it appears

We actually didn't end up staying at the Yurt. Upon arrival, there was a glue like smell in the yurt which made us uncomfortable with our 10 month old baby. There were also cobwebs in the windows. The wood stove is not a real woodstove, but gas. We weren't refunded for our cancellation and our communication with the owner hasn't been pleasant.

Yurt fun

Lived up to its billing. Beautiful grounds, friendly farm animals abound, private, and ingenious set up within the yurt itself. Good times all around.

Barefoot walks in nature

Tom was right out front of his house when we drove up. He kindly provided a wagon to haul our luggage to the yurt! First impression, the drive up there is absolutely scenic, the property itself is well kept and the vibes are incredibly welcoming. I reserved the yurt for 6 adults and we all fit comfortably. The loft above the kitchen is so much fun! The separated master bedroom had the most coziest bed with the cutest bedspread. We stayed in the middle of September so the weather was perfect. Warm days and cool nights. We enjoyed seeing the horses roam around. The whole weekend was an awesome getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. We walked barefoot the entire time and roamed the area and we even dipped our toes the babbling brook nearby. Loved this place and would highly recommend to anyone looking to get in touch with nature. Thank you Tom! You are a fantastic host.

Not just a wonderful place, but a wonderful experience, as well....

The yurt is an exceptional experience close to nature on a beautiful property, but with a remarkably spacious and luxurious feel for its small footprint. Architectural details and materials give an aesthetically pleasing and artistic feel that belies the thoughtfulness and integrity of its owners. All areas of the yurt have their own spacious and uniquely attractive qualities, from the living area, to the kitchen, and the bathroom with its lovely tub and well pressured shower, to the bedroom and even the sleeping loft which is very comfortable! We also loved the options for various activities on or near the grounds, and the owners and workers and animals are all very approachable and lovely! Delicious breakfast and other food options exist, with farm fresh eggs. There is no air conditioning, but an overhead fan and several floor or table fans made the yurt a comfortable and even desirable place to be even in 90 degree weather. We can't wait to go back!

Great getaway, loved the ambiance and the vibe of the property

Love love love the yurt. So much that the our research of said yurt has inspired us to build one on our own PA property. We went to the yurt to see what it would be like, sort of like a tiny house vibe but not really that tiny. Amazing property and critters running about. We loved the ambiance and vibe of the entire space. We were greeted by lovely caretakers who helped us schlep our stuff with a rolling cart-wagon to the yurt as it had just rained for 3 days and was a very muddy path. The sound of the rain falling on the roof of the yurt was soothing. Being able to see the sun rise through the dome was amazing. Very private space was equipped with fridge, working toilet and facilities. Yurt is located in the middle of a horse pasture. The yurt could use some updating but suited us just fine. We needed a getaway from our everyday tedious lives, and to reconnect with each other. It was perfect.

Wonderful farm, great visit.

How many times have we pulled into a guesthouse only to discover that we'll be listening to road noise all night long? Tim and Beth's farm isn't like that. It's deep country quiet and dazzling stars at night. We've stayed in the yurt and in Mr. Ed's Cabin and both were comfortable. Also, have the breakfast at least one time during your stay, because Tim and Beth are fun to talk to. There's also abundant bird life, lovely wildflowers. The yurt has a porch from which you can watch the sunset, which on the first night of our stay was gorgeous. All the equipment worked fine and tho the Yurt got a bit hot during the day, as we expected it would do, it cooled off just fine at night. The creek on the property is not truly swimmable, but it's good spot to sit and cool off. There is an actual swimming hole, very pretty, just a few minutes' drive away. Go there and talk to the locals. It's fun! I just hope I can visit again soon.

Rustic romantic get away

A lovely little winter get away on a farm. The yurt is unique and well insolated. Kitchen equipment is basic (and from the 70s) but works just fine. Beth is quite helpful the animals are friendly though unless your dog is used to farm animals I strongly recommend keeping them on leash. Also the yurt does smell a bit from the gas fireplace and oven. Overall i found the yurt to be private and romantic and we plan to come back. Oh and is snowed but the streets were well plowed.

Perfect winter getaway

Since my wife and I aren't skiers, we found the yurt a nice compromise for getting away during the colder months but not spending a ton to stay near a mountain. Though there's admittedly less to do in the New Paltz area when it's below freezing. (We couldn't hike or sight-see much, but we did manage to get to a few bars, a vineyard and a distillery). Still, staying in at the yurt at night worked out nicely at night, as quiet as our NYC apartment is loud. I'd love to get back to Tim & Beth's in the spring, summer or fall to take full advantage of the outdoors.

The Yurt was great! Much better than I expected.

My girlfriend loves the idea of self sustained living and I wanted a place she would love to be the site I proposed to her. The Yurt was great, if you want a different place to get away from the city. It is a little hike through the farm, so if you are a weakling or plan on wearing anything but boots, get a hotel room. Tim and Beth are awesome, super helpful, friendly, and have a great farm. Beth directed me to Mohonk Mountain to propose and it was perfect. My new fiancé and I convinced Beth and Tim to celebrate with us at the bonfire on Saturday. We will definitely return, and recommend anyone and all to stay in the Yurt. It is spacious and cozy. You could not ask for better hosts. Not sure how anyone could have a bad time here. Thank you, Tim and Beth for a very good weekend.

Simply Amazing and Truly Unique

My girlfriend and I had an incredibly laid back and relaxing stay at this unique property. Perfectly suited for couples who cannot decide on whether to go camping or to stay at a quaint country bed and breakfast. The listing was extremely accurate. The yurt really has everything you need for a short stay, including a fully functional kitchen (with cups, utensils, stove and oven, pots, pans, silverware, refrigerator, etc.) and bathroom (with shower/bathtub), a comfortable bed room, great little loft area for extra sleeping space, and a comfy common area/living room with a TV (DVD player), fireplace, and a huge futon. The yurt was clean and clearly well maintained. Despite it being a cold November weekend, the yurt was perfectly warm throughout, with an adjustable thermostat for the fireplace. Although there were only two of us, I believe up to 6 (or maybe even 7) people could comfortably stay in the yurt. It truly is much larger on the inside than it appears on the outside. The farm itself is also wonderful. Standing outside of the yurt on its deck, we could only see hills, trees, and horses. It felt totally private despite it being a short walk from the main house. My girlfriend (a true animal lover) had a great time playing with the horses, dogs, and kittens that were roaming around the property. We spent an entire day walking around the sprawling farm, taking in the scenery, and breathing the crisp fresh air. At night, we were able to sit outside on the deck and look up at the stars; the area surrounding the yurt is completely silent and dark at night (I would recommend bringing a flashlight or two). The owner, Tim, was very helpful and friendly from the get-go, helping us bring our luggage and groceries to the yurt, introducing us to the horses, showing us how everything in the yurt works, and giving us some sightseeing tips for the area. We are already looking forward to our next visit; hopefully we will be bringing some friends/family next time around!

Our dream getaway or home away from home!

We loved our stay there so much! The yurt felt so comfortable and cozy it really felt like the perfect vacation house. I could easily stay there for a month (or a few)! The 4 of us enjoyed every moment at this magical place, the field around it with all the wild flowers and how privet it felt, the horses and the whole atmosphere was magical. It is truly a place we would come back to over and over again! It is a place to renew your self ,swim in the stream, stroll around the beautiful farm, cook delisious food, light some candles at night , watch the stars on the deck, play some guitar, drum and sing and reunite with the people you love~ Beth and Tim were the loveliest hosts, always there when we needed anything, very attending and helpful. Best trip ever! Peace and love~

started out good ... just got worse from there!

We arrived late Sunday afternoon and were promptly greeted by Beth. We had to walk through a field and then through a fence that didn't open all the way therefore we had to climb through the fence. Once we were at the Yurt Beth informed us that there was an issue with the solar power and told us we might have to reset breakers if the power goes out. This was okay if it happened once or twice we could handle that. We ended up resetting the breakers 5-10 times per day. By Tuesday we were fed up and called Beth - She said "this is just the state of things right now" and I told her it needed to be fixed. We had stuff in the refrigerator that went bad because there was no power! She sent someone to look at it and told me she would have someone there Wednesday morning. We waited Wednesday morning and nobody showed up. I finally called Beth back at 1 pm Wednesday - she sent someone over that asked us how long we would be there and if we would be able to deal with it til we leave as it would be a major project and he didn't know much about the solar energy. WHAT? I called Beth back and told her this property was not as described (there was black tape over the ONE fan that was in the yurt so we had no fan the last week of August, tv/dvd player did not turn on, and the so called power was not there) and that we would be leaving Thursday morning. She told me at that point she would refund the two nights and a portion of the money we had paid for the week. She told me she was teaching a class and she would call me back when she got home. She never called me back so Thursday morning I called her to tell her we were checking out and she told me she would only give back the 2 nights that we would not be there. We could have rented a cabin with no electricity for $50-$100 a night - we chose this property for the amenities that were not provided as described within the description. We were really looking forward to an enjoyable vacation away from work and found ourselves "working" to keep the power to the building by resetting breakers many times a day! Beth did refund the 2 nights that we were not there - but did not hold to her word and return any portion of the money that we had spent on our time there. She informed us after we left that she was aware before our arrival that the tv/dvd player was not functioning and did not mention it to us upon our arrival. All furniture was comfy, the loft area was cool, horses around yurt was neat - kids loved that.

Fun Yurt Trip

The reason for my trip to the yurt was to research the construction and durability of a yurt in the winter. Our group of four had a great time walking the farm, cooking, talking with Beth & Tim and spending an evening under the stars in the hot tub. They were extremely hospitable and the yurt was cozy warm and inspiring. The solar panel system and construction is quite impressive. I would recommend this stay to anyone looking for a casual getaway - you will not be sorry.

Best Retreat from Manhattan For a Girls Weekend!

In honor of my upcoming wedding, four of my bridesmaids captured and surprised me with a bachelorette weekend at this fabulous Yurt! I had never even heard of such a thing, but as soon as I walked in, I was impressed and elated. The pictures are spot on, but don't give justice to how spacious and open it feels. The yurt was clean, open and comfortably took care of all five of us (we didn't mind sharing beds!). I loved the comfy, eco-friendly feel and the stunning views of the horse farm and surrounding land. Also, the owners were so kind and made sure we had everything we needed - blankets, towels and even milk for our morning coffee which they provided upon our asking (since we hadn't been to a store yet to pick up our own). They also happily invited us to join them at the jacuzzi any night we wanted and even set up the bonfire for us so when we returned from a day in the city, we could roast s'mores! As a woman who spends day-after-day in New York City, it was literally a breath of fresh air to drive a little less than 2 hours north and take in the beauty of Accord. The little town of New Paltz isn't that far either and I had a great time exploring there as well - be sure to stop by the Main Street Bistro! I would absolutely recommend this location for any retreat, celebration, or special occasion - whether it's with friends or your special someone. Once I'm married, I can't wait to come back with my husband!

Myself and 3 other women, stayed at the yurt for a bachelorette weekend. We had a great time. Tim and his wife were great at hospitality and made us feel very welcome. We came back Saturday evening and a campfire was already built for us. It was so nice to walk out of the yurt and have our very own campfire with smores! Perfect for a small group or a couple.

very cool and just as nice as any b+b

i have never stayed in a yurt before but this one is really nice! fully furnished. full bathroom with great pressure hot and cold water, private bedroom with beautiful comfortable queen size bed. it was a very unique experience. completely run by solar power but you could have fooled me, lights everywhere if you need em, ice box refridgerator for anything you bring with you. a fully functional kitchen. we had a very memorable experience at half the price of other traditional b+b options in the area. nice fire at night. the property is beautiful rolling hills and wildflowers, lovely friendly horses and dogs, chickens etc. the perfect country weekend. nearbye to all restaurants and local excursions. we had breakfast in the farm house the next day and it was beautiful and delicious. Great job by Angelica the caretaker. stay here. half the price, twice as cool!
