Special Cabin -Close to Yellowstone w/ Remote Setting
Perched on a ridge overlooking Tom Miner basin to the South and Rock Creek to the North, the Flying K is a hospitable cabin getaway designed for the discerning guest.
Sit on the porch and watch deer or elk cross the meadow to drink at a spring on the property; keep your balcony door open at night and listen to the coyotes howl as they greet the moon; the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors is as wild as your imagination.
With such near proximity to the Yellowstone river, National Forest land and a multitude of activities from horseback riding to kayaking, the Flying K makes a splendid headquarters for a Summer vacation for the outdoor minded.
Or... If you just want to get away from it all, there's no better location than the 'last best place' as Montana is often referred to! The site of the cabin will provide you with as much solace as you desire, aside from some 4 footed characters who share the backyard.
The location is ideal. Less than an hour from Gardiner, Montana, the NE entrance to Yellowstone National Park, an hour drive from Livingston and just 1.5 hours from the Bozeman airport puts you at the center of some beautiful country with many choices.
The wi-fi is fast enough to accommodate VOIP for communication or Verizon is the best mobile phone vendor for the area.
The upstairs has a king size bed and then a trundle bed with extra long twin and regular twin. A crib is available upon request.
A four wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended as it is 8 miles up a Forest Service Road to access the property.
Keywords: Mountain Views with hiking & biking trails. Quick access to fishing, kayaking, rafting and Yellowstone Park. A special spot on a secluded lot bordering National Forest Land.

Beautiful views, very secluded. Host kept in touch and made sure we had anything we needed. The drive up and down was a little much after a couple of days, but once we got there each night we enjoyed it very much! Beautiful property!
We loved this cabin. The setting and views were stunning and the cabin well appointed, clean, and all that we had hoped. The drive, as is mentioned, is a half hour to the main road and can get bumpy, but the chance at (and) seeing wildlife can make it seem shorter. Todd and Tamara were accommodating and friendly and responded to any questions we had right away.
Cabin was perfect for our Yellowstone vacation. Little bit of a drive from the highway but not anything too bad. The location is good for those who like to be secluded.
Really great place all the privacy you want and get away from all. Awesome for outdoor enthusiasts. And great to watch wildlife elk, deer and many small animals. Wife and i enjoyed it very comfortable and beautiful place
This cabin was as advertised. The surrounding forest and mountaintop made the cabin only more cozy and secluded. The cabin is well appointed despite its remote location.
Beautiful, quite, solitary place to enjoy the local activities or just a cup of coffee or adult beverage watching the mountains at sunrise and sunset. Lots of wildlife! Close to Yellowstone just what we wanted for a week vacation
We loved the remote location. Thanks to Tamara for the recommendation of getting a SUV, as it was definitely needed. We absolutely loved the cabin, grounds and the wildlife.
This was an amazing stay! The views were breathless. We saw some wildlife along the way up and down the road. Secluded---which is exactly what we love.
Fantastic cabin with amazing views and privacy. Our stay was everything described and more. It was our home base for a weeklong sightseeing trip inside Yellowstone and able to be be back at the cabin for amazing sunsets. It was equipped with everything we needed and we woke up every morning to a beautiful meadow filled with Elk, Deer, Grouse and rabbits. This is a wildlife lovers dream stay.
We loved the cabin! The cabin was perfect for us as a couple. We enjoyed the view from the porch and watching our daily visitors of either deer or elk. We also saw bears on our way down the mountain. Tamara and Todd are the perfect hosts! It made our Montana trip unforgettable.
Great place to relax,,, no problems,,,caretakers Todd and Danyalle were great and helpful if we needed them,,A good out of the way place for a vacation..Butch and Paula..
We thoroughly enjoyed being up the mountain in a log cabin all alone. It was perfect!
Thank you Tamara and Dennis for sharing this beautiful home. Todd we enjoyed talking to you and thanks for all your help!
Our stay at the Flying K was absolutely phenomenal! We loved the daily adventure of going up and down the mountain looking for wildlife and taking in the beauty of the gorgeous scenic views. The cabin is cozy and well appointed. Tamara and Todd were so helpful and ensured that we had everything we needed to have a wonderful stay. The North Entrance to Yellowstone National Park is nearby. The fly fishing there is incredible. We are looking forward to our next trip to the Flying K!
We were here 10 years ago and wonder why it took us 10 years to come back! This is a perfect remote escape from the busyness of life. Sitting on the porch watching storms roll through, animals walk by and listen to the silence was amazing.
We will be back soon!
This was our first time in Montana and it did not disappoint! Staying at the Flying K was a fantastic experience. The cabin is comfortable and accommodating. We had everything we needed. The view is so beautiful. The area is very quiet and peaceful. The property owner was very helpful in making sure we had good directions to find the cabin and that we settled in well. Thank you for this!
I cannot say enough about our experience. From our initial contact with Tamara, to the spectacular views, to 10” of snow on our first night. Location is perfect for those who want to get away from the "hustle and bustle.” Please listen to the recommendations of having a 4 wheel drive vehicle - the road up the mountain is a doozy!!
Thank you Tamara and Todd!!
The cabin was perfect! Todd checked on us a couple of times and was great. Tamara was responsive and a wonderful host. View was the most breathtaking I’ve ever enjoyed at a rental property. Spectacular doesn’t even describe it. Yes, it’s a trek up the mountain to get to the cabin, but we didn’t mind at all. The solitude was amazing. The only sound we heard were birds and the wind.
Our stay at the flying K was so relaxing. We saw so much wildlife (elk, deer, snow hares, two grizzlies and a moose that came right up to the porch. I got a couple really good photos of the moose. Todd was great and my husband loved riding mountain bikes with him. He gave us several good recommendations for hikes in the area. We will definitely stay here again!
One suggestion for the kitchen would be a couple more dish towels other than that we had everything we needed.
Thanks again!

Thank you Carrie! We are so glad you two enjoyed the area. We appreciate the tip on the dish towels & will get those stocked up. You are very welcome & we look forward to your return.
Wow, what an amazing property! I can’t say enough great things about our stay. The house was immaculately clean, views were amazing and the quiet and stillness was something we’ve never experienced before. The amount of wildlife we saw, elk, chipmunk, deer, was incredible and the wrap around porch and balcony was perfect for watching sunrises and sunsets. We cooked many meals there in the updated kitchen and enjoyed our time there so much that we can’t wait to go back! Like many others have said, as well as the host, a 4wheel drive is highly recommended for the drive up to the cabin. We will definitely be back! **Thanks to Tamara for her hospitality and Todd for coming to check and make sure we had everything we needed. Perfect hosts!
I can’t speak more highly of this property. Easily the best VRBO experience I’ve ever had. The cabin location is remote, so be prepared. But if that’s what you are looking for, this is THE cabin for you. All the modern conveniences of home, but at the top of a mountain with breathtaking scenery. We had elk and deer every morning and night, and we thoroughly enjoyed looking at wildlife on our drives up and down the mountain each day. Fawns, bald eagles, grouse, snowshoe hares were spotted regularly on our drives. We were close enough to experience Yellowstone since it was our first time, but next time we go, we will spend more time at the cabin because that’s an experience in and of itself. The hosts were fabulous and their directions and instructions were crystal clear. They were most gracious and I truly appreciate the experience!
What a hidden gem this cabin is! We knew it was going to be a haul up the mountain to stay here and that is what we wanted for our special trip to Yellowstone. This place will forever hold a special place in our heart. The view was absolutely amazing. My children spent their time searching for animals and we enjoyed the many deer who visited. We had so hoped to see the bear and cubs in the meadow and kept looking for them. The cabin is a dream home and the highlight of our 2 week vacation out west was staying here (we stayed in 5 different places!). The night we hung out and had a campfire and watched the sunset was a night we will forever remember. Such a special remote place. We are hoping to come back as a couple and just chill in the cabin for days. It is the neatest place I have ever rented. Todd was amazing! We so enjoyed talking with him and seeing the pictures of the bear and cubs that he captured. Highly responsive and there was nothing we needed that we did not have. Do not hesitate to book this amazing and very special cabin!
We were initially bummed that the north entrance of Yellowstone is closed but this cabin delivered an amazing week of seclusion on top of a gorgeous mountain. It was so perfect in every way. The drive is arduous but totally worth it and Todd took care of anything that popped up very quickly. An incredible retreat that I would recommend to anyone
We had no idea we’d be at the top of a mountain with views unlike anything we’ve seen before. First the seclusion. Second the quiet. We had not experienced utter quiet for so long, we could hear our own ears ringing! We saw elk and deer. This is the most fantastic place we’ve come upon yet in our extensive montana travels.

About the host
Hosted by Tamara Libbey
I was raised on an island in the middle of the Yellowstone River & grew up loving & appreciating the scenery, wildlife and activities that are part of the wonder-fullness of living in such beautiful country.
After leaving the state for work, I continued to return home & then, we had the opportunity to purchase property & build a cabin which we enjoy at different times throughout the year.
It is a pleasure to get to share our beautiful backyard with others.
Why they chose this property
We have a cabin in the area
What makes this property unique
I enjoy the solitude & sense of being away from it all, while knowing if I want or need, civilization is only about 45 minutes away.
The beauty of the area just envelopes you & makes it difficult to leave. The light changes throughout the day & from the early rays of the sunrise to the alpine glow preceding nightfall it provides constant delight.
Sitting on the deck and watching the wildlife that abounds in the area is always fun. Watching the deer as they change from full velvet to knotty racks always brings a smile.
