About this property
Birches Cottage on Historic Lpclub - Short Walk to Lake & Town
Birches
Built in 1912 and completely renovated in 2005, Birches was part of the historic Lake Placid Club grounds used to house European royalty prior to World War I. Walk to everything: Birches is one block from Mirror Lake, 2 blocks from golf and tennis and 4 blocks from the center of the Olympic Village. Perched on a gentle hillside, Birches offers million dollar views of the Adirondack High Peaks, Olympic Ski Jumps, Olympic Bobsled Track and Lake Placid Golf Courses.
Birches has 5 bedrooms, 4 of which have spacious sleeping lofts (that include Tempur-Pedic mattresses), and sleeps up to 20 people. Each bedroom has its own private bathroom and reading porch.
The master bedroom has a king bed, private balcony with views of Olympic ski jumps, bobsled track and Cascade Mountain range. Relax in a leather love seat by the warm wood burning fireplace in the suite! The master bathroom has two sink vanity plus double shower heads.
In addition to the master bedroom, there are three bedrooms with king beds, one bedroom with a queen bed and one bedroom with two twin beds (temperpedic mattresses) that can be pushed together to make a king. All beds come equipped with linens and comforter. Two towels are provided for each bedroom (10 in total.) I recommend bringing extra towels for hot tub and lake. There is a washer and dryer on the top level.
The four bedrooms on the top floor have private balconies. Each balcony is unique and has a different feel. I recommend spending time on each balcony whether reading, playing cards, people watching, or relaxing with your favorite drink. Great in all seasons! The four upstairs bedrooms also come with large, spacious sleeping lofts accessed by a ladder. The lofts come with Tempurpedic Mattresses ranging in size from twins (6 in total) to doubles (2 in total.) They mattresses come with a fitted sheet and throw comforter! Kids love to play in the lofts!
Birches sits on an acre of wooded property. The open floor plan is designed to enhance entertainment with a large, fully equipped kitchen including cable tv and breakfast bar, a large dining room with window seats, and a spacious family room with a stone fireplace, game table, and floor-to-ceiling windows to capture the awesome views.
A five-person hot tub outside the ground-level game room provides relaxation after skiing, hiking, or exercise with views of the golf courses, ski jumps, bobsled and mountains. An outdoor grill is available. The ground-level game room has regulation size ping pong table. There is also a sleeping alcove off to the side that some guests use as an extra bedroom. It is a double size temperpedic mattress that comes with a fitted sheet and throw comforter.

Very clean, charming decor, amazing views, great set up for group ski trip with private bed/bathrooms, great common space, inviting fireplace and hot tub.
Absolutely a gorgeous house Kevin was very pleasant and quick to respond with our questions Great location awesome neighbors We will definitely be returning thank you again for the use of your beautiful home
Our week stay at the Birches was tremendous. The property is clean and well maintained with great amenities. Kevin is very easy to work with and responsive to any question. The check in and check out process very easy. Our family had a great time and plan to book again for a vacation next year.
Our large family of twelve people just spent a week at this house. Everything was great, especially the location! We are an opinionated bunch and had no complaints.
Little rest and relaxation, a little hiking, little sightseeing, checking out the 1980s Olympic venue, some kayaking and a enjoying stay in Lake Placid. Just a beautiful place to take in the scenery...
The house was more than enough for the larger group we had. Communication with the owner was superb and fast responses. Would recommend for anyone traveling to the area.
The Birches was a great place to stay while attending a wedding in Lake Placid. The 5 bedrooms with individual bathrooms was perfect for getting all of our adult children together. Plenty of space to spread out and a big common room to get together!
5 married couples on motorcycles used the Birches as a central point for touring in this part of the Adirondacks. Don't miss the Ausable Gorge & the Whirteface Mtn Memorial Drive.
We were two families spending 4 nights there over New Years Eve. The house was as advertised. The house was clean, the fire place worked and the jacuzzi was a treat after skiing. We would stay here again. There was enough room that we could have had another family join us.
Perfect 3 night get away. Plenty of space. 5 1/2 bathrooms worked out great as did all the sleeping options. Nice to be close to downtown and walking distance to just about everything. Kitchen fit our needs. Hot tub was relaxing. The views from the balconies/ through the windows and doors were great.
The home was a perfect place for our winter gathering of long time friends. The entire house was comfortable for everyone. The kitchen was very well stocked. It was a very good trip.

About the host

My favorite thing to do is to spend time in Lake Placid and the Adirondacks. I love playing hockey and skiing in the winter, and kayaking, water skiing and swimming in the summer. When the leaves change colors, no better place to be in the world! Lake Placid always helps me to forget the stresses of day to day life! I go back to work Monday feeling very relaxed and refreshed.
Why they chose this property
My dad was a former member of the Lake Placid Club. His love of Lake Placid and sweet memories led him to bring us to vacation in Lake Placid. I have been coming to Lake Placid for vacation and hockey camp since 1983. I use to walk the Lake Placid Club grounds with my dad and he would point out all the great landmarks of the historic club. We loved the Adirondack design of the club cottages and when the opportunity presented itself, I had to own a piece of the Historic Club. I actually almost bought an adjacent house, but when I saw Birches, I knew this was my place. It sits prominently on the street and I always think of a tree house when I look at it. The view of the Olympic Ski Jumps and Bobsled tracks are the best on the block! I grew up seeing family pictures through the years with the ski jumps as backdrop so when I look out from Birches I feel like I am home with family. The location is incredible - I can walk to Mirror Lake, Main Street, Olympic Center, Speed Skating Oval, Lake Placid Pub & Brewery, tennis courts, park, toboggan, and my favorite mountain - Cobble Hill! I am so close to the hussle and bustle of Main Street yet at Birches it is very peaceful - like being in a forest with great views!
What makes this property unique
Location and views is what makes Birches great! I love pointing out the lights zig zagging down the mountain is the Olympic bobsled track. Nothing beats getting up in the morning during winter and taking the kids over to the sledding hill, hockey on Mirror Lake or taking a short drive to Whiteface for skiing. My wife and I love walking to dinner at Nicola's or LP Pub & Brewery too! When you first walk into Birches, you are greeted by a large mural of Adirondacks painted by a local artist. My son loves to point out the different animals!
