About this property

1882 Heritage House ~ Bali Bed, Porches & Gardens ~ Downtown Los Alamos

RENAISSANCE IDEALS. PIONEER SPIRIT.
The oldest standing home in Los Alamos, built in 1882 — and still the most alive.

Step inside 140 years of California history, meticulously restored with a philosophy as old as the house itself: buy next to nothing new. Every hand-carved beam, original stained glass window, and century-old redwood was here before you — and was worth saving. What surrounds you isn't manufactured charm. It's the real thing.

THE OUTDOOR LIFE
Most historic downtown properties give you a porch. Heritage House gives you an entire outdoor world.

The fully fenced, lushly landscaped grounds are built for living: sink into the Bali swinging bed in the covered Swinger's Lounge — a full-size hanging bed perfect for afternoon naps and golden hour conversations. Gather around the wood-burning fire pit (wood provided) for evenings that stretch long. Two BBQs — gas and charcoal — because serious outdoor entertaining deserves options. Two reclaimed wine barrel water fountains create the kind of ambient soundtrack that makes you forget your phone exists. Multiple decks and covered porches for every mood and time of day. And presiding over it all — a life-size metal cowboy art installation that stops every guest mid-step.

Tucked into the garden: the Kissing Cove — an intimate outdoor nook perfectly designed for photos, stolen moments, and the kind of memory that follows you home.

The historic water tower stands on the grounds, adding atmosphere and privacy that no new-build could replicate.

This is not a backyard. It's an outdoor living room designed for the people who know the difference.

THE ROOMS
Every bedroom at Heritage House has a name, a story, and a personality. None of them are accidental.

Boudoir de Bouge — Ground Floor Primary
The most stately room in the house, and she knows it. A grand king bedroom with an extraordinary private dressing room, an en-suite bath featuring a iconic Victorian high-tank pull-chain toilet and claw-foot soaking tub, and the kind of morning-light situation that makes you want to cancel your checkout. Ridiculous in the best possible way.

The Gatsby Room — Upstairs
Roaring 20s vibes, king bed, and enough glamour to make you feel like the party never ended. Also day bed (converts to queen). Daisy would approve.

Brown Chicken Brown Cow — Upstairs
A loving homage to the dairy farmers who built this house in 1882. King bed, and enough charm to make you forget you're sleeping in a room named after a chicken and a cow. You won't forget it though. Nobody does.

The Rest of the House
A Restoration Hardware queen sleeper sofa rounds out the sleeping situation — Heritage House sleeps 10 comfortably. Two full baths with claw-foot soaking tubs. Two powder rooms, including one off the kitchen with a Toto bidet (yes, really). Swank laundry room with plaster walls and a stained glass door. Working gas fireplace. Smart TVs. High-speed WiFi. Great antique desk for remote work. Games, cozy nooks, and beautiful details around every corner.

THE KITCHEN
A fully equipped chef's kitchen built for people who actually cook — Thermador 6-burner cooktop, additional warming oven, and every tool you need to pull off a proper dinner. The kitchen banquette seating area is crafted from an old-growth fallen tree from the Santa Barbara mountains. The driftwood chandelier in the dining room was made by hand from reclaimed coastal wood. This is not a builder-grade kitchen. Cook accordingly.

THE LOCATION
Half a block from the historic 1880 Union Hotel. Steps from Bell Street — Los Alamos' main drag, where acclaimed restaurants, wine tasting rooms, and the quiet heartbeat of Central Coast Wine Country all live within easy walking distance. Los Alamos doesn't announce itself. That's exactly why the right people find it.

THE WELCOME
Arrive to a curated welcome basket: local wine, manchego, farm-fresh eggs, snacks, and exclusive 2-for-1 wine tasting coupons made just for Heritage House guests.

EVENTS
Heritage House is also a licensed event venue — zoned for multi-use and able to accommodate up to 75 guests for intimate, inimitable gatherings. About the host

Hi I'm Jen. Superhost for over a decade. Heritage House is where I fell in love with my style of renovations, called "Regenerative Design." This 1882 structure had been waiting for our talented team to breathe new life into it, and I think you'll agree, we did just that. Every room has a name, a story, and an intention. If you want to see more of the story of this space before you arrive — or just want to see what this corner of California really looks like — @jenboulden and @losAlamosHeritageHouse on Instagram.

NOTE: We also host private events — and if you've ever dreamed of celebrating somewhere that would love to have you add your story to hers, Heritage House is available. Visit losalamosheritagehouse.com.

Why they chose this property

Los Alamos is the last honest town on the Central Coast — a former stagecoach stop that somehow held onto its soul. Centrally located on Bell Street, you can walk to nationally acclaimed restaurants, incredible wine tasting rooms, antique shops, the 1880 Union Saloon, and The Depot Bar without moving your car once. This is a town of respectable renegades, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

What makes this property unique

Heritage House is a Pioneer Eclectic original — Craftsman bones, Victorian ornament, frontier practicality — built in 1882 and restored as living art. No two rooms are alike. The Gatsby Room, the Brown Chicken Brown Cow, the Boudoir de Bouge, the Swingers Lounge — each space was designed with its own character and a sense of humor. Everything here has a story, a past life, and we think that's exactly the point. This is not a rental. It's an experience with an address. Heritage House also hosts private events — intimate weddings, celebrations, and gatherings for guests who want something real. Visit losalamosheritagehouse.com to learn more.
