About this property
You will love our beautifully furnished cottage in the woods
If cleanliness is next to godliness, you may think you are in heaven when you visit Shasta Forest Cottage! The cottage is cleaned and disinfected according to CDC/VRBO guidelines between each guest stay. It also provides no-contact entry with key access in a lockbox, 24-hour minimum between guests to allow for thorough cleaning, disinfecting, and airing of the cottage. You will have the entire property to yourself with no contact with others.
This newly built cottage is just perfect for a single, couple, or family to relax after a day of exploring nearby lakes, waterfalls, and mountains all year around. Shasta Forest Cottage is cozy, comfortable, clean, and inviting with a great view of mountains and forest. The deer, wild turkeys, and squirrels that roam the property provide endless entertainment. In the summer you'll enjoy relaxing on the porch. Winters will find you enjoying sitting by the fire taking in the view from our large picture-perfect windows.
Shasta Forest Cottage is no rustic cabin! You won't have to miss out on any of the comforts of home while you stay with us! You will be assured of a good night's sleep on our comfortable queen bed in the full-sized bedroom and a high-quality 8" full size innerspring futon bed mattress on the living room sofa futon. Our kitchen is equipped with a microwave, coffee maker, toaster, refrigerator, oven & range, and a dishwasher! We also provide basic utensils, plates, cups, and pots and pans. If you aren't unplugging on your mountain retreat we have wifi for streaming your favorite movies on your device. Enjoy the cozy flames of our state-of-the-art Jotul gas stove.
Also, for your WINTER COMFORT, enjoy the luxury of a down comforter with a 100% cotton cover on the queen bed and the heated bathroom floor.
Your WINTER SAFETY is enhanced by outdoor heated mats and sensor safety lights on the walkway between the house and carport.
We are located just 25 miles from Lassen Volcanic National Park, described by Sunset Magazine as "the best kept secret in the National Parks" and hosting hiking, nordic skiing, snow-shoeing, fishing, boating, and swimming in the brisk mountain lakes. You won't want to miss the beautiful and fascinating geothermal features such as boiling mud pots and fragrant (!) sulfur vents. Also in the area, Mount Shasta offers a snowboard and ski park plus hiking and other outdoor actives year-round. While in the area you also will want to check out Burney Falls, Subway Caves, McCloud Falls, Whiskeytown Lake, Lake Shasta, and the Sundial Bridge over the Sacramento River in the city of Redding - all are day-trip close. Right in Shingletown you can enjoy Lake McCumber, Grace Lake, and Nora Lake. The town also provides restaurants, a bar, grocery stores, and gas stations to serve your every need.
Pets: There is a $30 charge per trip for one or two well behaved dogs. You will be able to check that option when you book.
Dogs may not be left unattended in the cottage unless in a crate. Outdoors dogs must be leashed and attended at all times.
Be aware, pets are not allowed on the trails in Lassen National Park, though they are welcome at many other nearby locations. There is a reputable dog sitter service that will come to the cottage and dog sit for you if you want to take a trip to Lassen and leave your pup at the cottage. I'm not allowed to post their website here, so ask me, and I'll share it with you.
Sorry, no cats allowed at the cottage.
EV Charging : We have outlets in the carport for charging you electric vehicle. The fee for charging EVs is $10 the first night, and $5 per night after that. Please tell me when you book if you will be charging your EV at the cottage.

About the host
Hosted by Nancy Scott

Both natives to California, but having lived across the US and overseas, we discovered this beautiful corner of creation over 40 years ago while on a camping trip in Lassen Park and told ourselves "we want to live here some day"! We moved here 10 years ago. We enjoy mountain living ourselves and are eager to share this beautiful little-known area - so we bought a house right in our neighborhood to allow us to share it with you! We love to walk and ride bikes in the woods adjacent to our quiet little neighborhood, and enjoy Lassen Volcanic National Park and surrounding National Forest all year round for hiking, cross-country skiing, kayaking, bird-watching, wild-flower gazing, and more! We also love gathering with family and friends to fill our hearts and feed our souls.
Why they chose this property
Shasta Forest Cottage is a new little house in a quiet scenic neighborhood, just 2 miles from the little town of Shingletown, which provides all needed amenities, 25 miles from Redding, which provides even more amenities, restaurants, and outdoor activities, and best of all, we are 25 miles west of Lassen Volcanic National Park - a natural wonderland of volcanic geological features, lakes, mountains, streams, vistas, hiking - a beautiful wild world to explore!
