Take in stunning views from this beautifully renovated historic 1 BR home, named for an Italian town that Old Bisbee compares to: Taormina! 5 minute walk to Main (20 min. back) Hiking trails out front yard, & only 5 steps from rare, private parking. Starter breakfast items: homemade Italian cookies, fresh bread, eggs, coffee, teas, creamer, condiments. Plus, mile-high Bisbee cooler than our northerly neighbors, so c'mon down! Deep, long stay discounts! Perfect for travel nurses, health workers.
Cathedral ceilings with transom windows all around and open floor plan maximize views in all directions, and keep this house very cool in summer (AC in bedroom and living room)! Casa Taormina, originally a miner's shack built in the 1915, has undergone a complete renovation, as is evidenced by the beautiful photos!
Cathedral ceilings with transom windows all around and open floor plan maximize views in all directions, and keep this house very cool in summer (have not needed to run AC yet)! Casa Taormina, originally a miner's shack built in the 1920s, is near the tail end of a complete renovation, as is evidenced by the beautiful photos!
All new fixtures and mosaic in bathroom, complete with broken tiles gathered from the beaches of Taormina itself, and a clawfoot slipper tub for soaking (or showering) .
Cozy bedroom also has a cathedral ceiling and high accent windows and ledges which open up the space, with south-facing windows affording views into Mexico. Plush, new queen-sized bed with luxurious bedding and pillows allow for the ultimate in creature-comforts.
Kitchen is fully stocked, complete with butcher block countertop, 18" dishwasher from Italy, double sink, custom shelves, oak cabinets and beautiful glass tile backsplash.
Living room features a dining bar adjacent to kitchen. Dining table is classic Bisbee style, with repurposed 1920s bedroom door serving as a long, Italian, family-style dinner table (epoxy top with Bisbee hillside and Italian Beachside treasures embedded)!
For lounging, and drinking in the breathtaking views, an eclectic assortment of comfortable furniture awaits you. Also included are an assortment of interesting books, magazines, board games, playing cards, and a selection of DVDs (Smart TV with all the streaming channels, and wifi).
Finally, the orientation of Casa Taomina, with a patio and beautifully landscaped yard on both east and west sides, allows for cool morning or afternoon shade, or soaking up of sun, depending on what you desire. Hostess Maria and her Italian immigrant parents who visit annually from "back east" continually add new touches to the private and relaxing front yard (east facing), including trees, herbs, indigenous and flowering plants, and Italian parsley growing in the cracks of the path. The cool evening breezes coupled with stunning views are sure to please.
So, if you're up for semi-rustic/high-end combo with killer views, stay at "Casa Taormina" of Bisbee! Your first stay will help get her finished for your second, as I'm sure you'll want to return!
Guest Access:
Bedroom sleeps two, with a plush queen size bed! Sectional sofa in living room for up to two additional guests and additional lounging opportunities. Full bath, stove, fridge, ample kitchen wares and appliances, condiments and breakfast fixings, at a minimum, are included (usually eggs, bread, butter, coffee, creamer, teas). Parking for one car (turn around much trickier with two cars and inadvisable). Road and narrow drive passable for car/passenger truck/SUV, but NOT for larger vehicles or trailers (very limited turn around).
Interaction with Guests: Hostess lives in the house on the hillside directly below "Casa Taormina" and is usually available at check in and check out, if necessary, and for any concerns or questions that arise during your stay! Key left in lock box for after-hour check-in, or in the event that hostess is not immediately available at check in or check out.
The neighborhood: Opera Drive in Old Bisbee is ideal for its being tucked away and semi-private, while still having ready access to downtown entertainment, culture, shops and dining. Music from events at nearby City Park and the infamous Brewery Gulch can be heard drifting up the canyon on many a weekend afternoon and evening. And if you love hiking as I do, there are trails up into the mule mountains overlooking town accessible from the tops of most streets and staircases, including my own. Get a new perspective on town- and life-by hiking right out the back -or front- door of Casa Taormina! Opera Drive is directly on the well-known and popular Bisbee Stair Climb route, with many visitors walking by on the street far below on any given weekend, or locals just getting some exercise.
If you are not familiar with Bisbee's layout, houses are built on the hillsides above and below each street, very European! There may be 3, 4, 5 or even more houses above street level at any given point. Casa Taormina is three houses (flights) above street level, with an empty lot and three additional houses above! Lucky for you though, Casa Taormina has a private, albeit narrow and steep (not suitable for very large vehicles) drive leading you right up to the house, so you don't have to climb three flights with luggage! And, if you need something special for a meal at home, or some wine, beer or baked goods, fully stocked Mimosa Market is just a short walk down the end of Opera Drive with steps spilling down into Brewery Gulch. Mimosa Market even carries produce, homemade breads, fine cuts of meat and a selection of organic goods. Athletics/activities: -Pickle-ball courts on Quality Hill in Old Bisbee. -public swimming pool also on Quality Hill. Open in summer. -Basketball: Garfield Park, City Park -Tennis: in the Warren neighborhood on Vista Park - Farmers market: Vista Park, Saturdays, 8-1
Getting around: No need for public transit in Old Bisbee. Just park the car and walk downtown. Please note, again, that Bisbee is a mile high elevation and built on hills, so you WILL get your exercise walking around town! Make sure to stay hydrated, even in winter! If you are without a vehicle, there are buses that come through town from Tucson, and the local Bisbee Bus (with stops downtown) has routes to outlying areas and the local Safeway supermarket most days. Also, the golf cart tours on Naco Road as you enter town offer local shuttle service (they'd shuttle you back home for a small fee after a night on the town if you're too tired to walk!)
Other Things to Note: Casa Taormina is suitable for up to five guests (in a pinch), with one queen-sized bed, a sectional sofa for up to 2, and a single foam mattress available for one additional guest on floor if necessary! It is not, however, suitable for very small unattended children. The yard is not child safe, nor is the location or property handicap accessible. Casa Taormina, like much of Bisbee, is in a canyon. As such, most cell service (Sprint/T- Mobile/Verizon/AT&T) works fine, but check your provider to be sure.
House Rules: Two night minimum stay. 4 Adults maximum (older children or infant only; yard not suitable for young children or toddlers). No pets. Smoking outside only.

About the host
Hosted by Maria Asaro
I am from the small town of Bisbee, in the southeast corner of Arizona in the United States, the guidance counselor and long time teacher at the local high school here, a job which I am passionate about and dedicate much time to. I have three children, who are very bright, creative and kind (first one off to college this year!). For the past several years, I have been working to renovate the home above my home to share with family, friends and others (my extended clan harks from Italy and is largely based in New York). It has been a project of love and is still in progress. Mom and dad just visited last summer to put in their touches in the yard (they will certainly need to return annually)!
We travel to New York every year and have visited Airbnb homes in Brussels and Paris. Of late our travels have taken us mainly to college towns , as mentioned above.
The motto above the door to our home is "You are beautiful and filled with greatness. Share it." I have this same motto painted on the wall of my guidance office as well. I believe we each have beauty within us to share, and that is how I have raised my children. I look for guests who see the beauty in themselves and in others and are ready to appreciate and share that which is in our lovely town, and in my lovely home, of Bisbee.
Why they chose this property
This home is directly above my own home and I imagine that someday it will become my own version of a "mother/daughter." Meanwhile, I welcome you to enjoy and share a piece of our world!
What makes this property unique
Views! Windows! Did I say views! Tucked away but close to everything.
