Location
Restaurants, a coffee house, bagel shop, bars, and Mars Hill University are within a 10-minute walk along Main Street (note that the sidewalk begins about 3 minutes into the walk). It's a genuine small town with real character — and easy access to Asheville when you want it.
Layout
The living room and all three bedrooms are on the main floor. Each bedroom has a closet and drawer space — two rooms have queen-size beds, the third has a full-size bed. White sheets, pillows, and quilts are provided.
The living room features a 49" ultra-high-def Smart TV. A second Smart TV is in the first bedroom.
Downstairs you'll find the dining room, kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room. The dining room seats six and includes a dedicated workspace in the corner.
Kitchen & Essentials
The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to prepare meals — pots, pans, bakeware, cooking utensils, and tableware. Appliances include a full-size refrigerator, oven, microwave, countertop dishwasher, toaster, blender, teapot, and Keurig coffee maker (prefer a drip coffee pot? just ask!). Pantry basics include enough coffee for 1–2 days, tea, sugar, ketchup, mustard, cooking oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, parsley, cinnamon, basil, and oregano.
The laundry room includes a full-size washer and dryer, with detergent, bleach and dryer sheets provided.
Bathroom
The bathroom has a bathtub with shower doors. White bath and hand towels are provided, along with a hairdryer and starter soap, shampoo, and conditioner.
Comfort & Climate
Two mini-split heat pumps provide efficient heating and air conditioning for year-round comfort.
Outdoor Features
Built into the side of a hill, the cottage has a large fenced backyard — perfect for pets — with seasonal forest/mountain views. The covered front porch features rocking chairs, a loveseat, and side tables. A brick patio in the backyard has a table for outdoor dining. Parking accommodates up to 3 cars.
Other things to note:
> Hillside Cottage is located in a residential neighborhood on Main Street on the outskirts of town. Guests are expected to be respectful of neighbors at all times, including noise levels, parking, and general conduct.
> The cottage is about a 10-minute walk along Main Street to the center of town and Mars Hill University. The sidewalk starts about 3-minutes into the walk.
> You will have full access to the cottage and yard with the exception of a storage/utility room.
Self-check in via keypad is provided for your convenience. A new code is created for each visit and is provided the day before your arrival.
Access is via stairs leading directly from the parking area. The stairs in front of the cottage are not for guest use as they only lead to the mailbox and open onto a blind curve on Main Street.
In addition to the stairs from the parking area to the front door, there is a flight of stairs inside the cottage.
This mountain town is home to plenty of wildlife — don’t be surprised if you see a bear or a snake!
