About the host
Hosted by Liz
We are two families who are from the Denver and Boulder areas. We bought this house as a place from which to launch our adventures, enjoy the mountains and share good times with friends and family. We love skiing, hiking, rafting, backpacking, mountain running, rock climbing, mountain biking, star gazing, roasting S'mores, sledding and building forts. Our kids are slowly becoming true mountain explorers! We love sharing this place with others who enjoy the same types of adventures or just want to have a unique mountain experience.
Why they chose this property
The house is one of the highest elevation houses in the continental United States and the view from the back porch is unbeatable! The night sky is unaffected by ambient light and the stars are brilliant. The road to the house is plowed by the county though out the winter making the house accessible year round, which is almost unheard-of at this elevation! The trail head near the house offers a great place for building snow forts in the winter and the nearby towns of Fairplay and Breckenridge are known for their festivals, adorable shops and challenging mountain races.
What makes this property unique
The house was built by a german doctor using a European mountain style with a fire-resistant stucco exterior and metal roof. The house uses in-floor heating exclusively and used a lot of re-purposed and re-claimed material. The front of the house is built like a ship, cleaving the whipping winds gusting out of the western mountains.
