About this property

Madera Canyon home w/ spectacular mountain view

Fully Furnished 1 Bdr/2 Bath + loft in Madera Canyon surrounded by the Coronado National Forest. Fabulous porch with swing, glider and room to feed the whole family while watching hummingbirds at your feeder. One of a kind woodwork 'makes' this home. 1326 sf of indoor living space. Central AC/heat. Full kitchen. Property is walking distance to trailheads, picnic areas and favorite birdwatching spots. It all adds up to the best place for an extended stay in Madera Canyon.

If you are traveling with friends, please check out my property next door that sleeps 2. It's called Creekside Madera Canyon Cabin.

Please note: There is no TV reception (we do have a dvd player). Satellite Internet is provided (but may be slower than you are used to and is subject to weather outages). This is a remote property. Your cell phone will have limited connectivity in the canyon (Verizon works best, but we suggest you set up wifi calling on your phone). There is a landline in the cabin. While there are two gift stores in the canyon, the next closest businesses are 15 miles away. I recommend you get gas and stop at the grocery store before you drive into the canyon. Don't forget to buy a bag of sugar to make syrup to feed the hummingbirds!

Please note there is NO washing machine for guest use.

I spent summers in Tucson, Arizona with my grandparents as a little girl. They had a small cabin in Madera Canyon - one of only a handful of private homes - and my sister and I loved going there on the weekends and playing in the creek or hiking the trail to Mt. Wrightson. As an adult I have returned to visit my grandparents many times with my children to introduce them to the jewel that is Madera Canyon. The photo is of my grandfather blowing bubbles with my daughter off the edge of the porch.

Why they chose this property

In 1992 my grandparents built the current home which they nicknamed Hummingbird Hill. It sits at a high spot in the canyon which lends itself to beautiful mountain views, sunsets and hummingbird watching. It was their dream retirement home. I have recently inherited it and can't bear to part with it - not only because of the memories but also because of the unique building and location. My husband and I are not able to move to the canyon right now as we have jobs out of state, but hope it can become our dream retirement home as well.

What makes this property unique

The home itself was custom built by Richard Lansky. You won't believe the detailed woodworking. Take a careful look at the photo gallery. Richard still lives in the canyon and helps me with maintenance. The location is also amazing. Madera Canyon is a natural gem and it is minimally developed so you will have tons of opportunities to enjoy nature. The cabin is on private property but borders Coronado National Forest land on all sides. There are a handful of residents in the canyon and it is a popular weekend spot for people from Tucson so you will not be completely alone, but there's still plenty of space for solitude. I love some of the local businesses that rent out by the night, but this is truly the best place for an extended stay.
