About this property
Secluded, Lakeside Log Cabin on Squam Lake with private dock
More than 100 feet of private shoreline. Two attached, handmade log cabins, each with lofts. Rustic and cozy throughout. Plenty of room for a family or two couples. One bath/shower plus two half-baths. Surrounded by tall pines and lots of privacy and quiet. Beautiful Squam Lake is just down your short path, over your footbridge and the little freshwater stream. Your dock is ideal for a swim or a paddle in the canoe. The cabin is part of the Pinehurst estate which borders the Rattesnake Mountain and Five FInger Point trails and natural habitat -- hikes right outside your door. In winter, 45 minute drive to Waterville Valley ski area; cross country skiing also available.
The two log cabins are configured like this: The smaller log cabin has a double bed, sitting area, and a loft with two single beds. The attached larger log cabin has a sitting area and kitchen / dining area on the main floor, a queen bed in the loft, and the bath/washrooms downstairs in the basement. There is an apartment-size washer/dryer in the basement but there is no dishwasher in the kitchen. Parking for 2-3 cars on the driveway.
The dock looks out onto True Cove and across to the Five Finger Point Nature area. A canoe plus kayaks are available for your use. Many guests enjoy jumping and swimming off the dock or hiking on the trails in the woods to Five Finger Point or up East and West Rattlesnake Mountains. There is also a gas grill. Please be aware that the area does not permit the use of jetskis.
Designed for peace and quiet, the Pinesteyn Log Cabin has lots of places to sit and talk and has only and old TV that plays DVDs. For when we cannot leave the rest of the world behind there is wifi. The Pinehurst estate is adjacent to Rockywold-Deephaven camps off of Rt. 113 between Sandwich and Holderness, NH. Sandwich offers antiques, artists' studios, and organic farms. Holderness offers the Squam Lakes Science Center, restaurants, and boat rentals.

About the host
Hosted by Mark Koumans
Why they chose this property
The smaller of the two attached log cabins was built by my family to fulfill my father's dream of having an Abraham Lincoln-style, real log cabin in the wilderness -- at first with no electricity or running water. Little by little the family added those amenities -- and then had a larger cabin built and attached to the first. Now it's homey and comfortable but retains the spirit of the outdoors.
What makes this property unique
A true log cabin with exposed beams and open sleeping areas, mainly in lofts. There are hardly any doors. Fall asleep listening to the loons in our corner of Squam Lake -- True Cove -- where reportedly the loons from "On Golden Pond" were filmed. The house is a quiet sanctuary the feels like a world apart from the stresses of our daily lives. Kids love splashing in the stream and catching frogs.
