Cute country cabin

This little place provided what we needed. We enjoy being away from people and driving around looking at nature's beauty. This cabin is a bit remote but we loved it!!

Overall was a great experience. The host was very responsive. It is the definition of a cozy cabin in the woods. There were a few small things that were less than ideal (water turn on for the shower is outside of the shower so you have to get out to adjust it, the the internet cut in and out quite frequently which wouldn’t be a big deal if it wasn’t the only way to use the tv in the living room, etc.) but check in was easy, the cabin was fully equipped with everything we needed, sunsets were beautiful, and we spent most of our time hiking and adventuring so for what we needed it for it was perfect.

Didn't Work Out

Location of the cabin was beautiful, and the check in process was a breeze. If you were to go in the fall or spring, it would probably be okay but the AC is a single window unit that is not powerful enough for the cabin. House rules states that they want you to use the fan first, but then window unit on low only. This is not enough to circulate airflow to the whole cabin. Upstairs bed is unusable if its hot outside. Upon check in, the cabin was mid to high 80s. After 6 hours of running fans and the ac unit on low as required, cabin was still mid to low 80s. There were also gaps all around the window unit that we tried to block with towels. The only solution the host had was more fans, even after I had expressed concern for a guest with us that has heat sensitivity as a result of a medical condition.Additionally, we found moths in the murphy bed. If it was just a few, we could have dealt with it. Host apologized and told us where the vacuum was. As the afternoon went on, we discovered that moths were everywhere. Curtains, closets, walls, floor. Host said pest control was already scheduled for the week after we were supposed to leave. Host did communicate and responded quickly through the app, however the solutions for these issues were not adequate. This property has so much potential but needs a lot of work and attention to detail. We were unable to complete our stay, but this might work for others interested in a quiet place in the black hills.

Hi, Gabrielle! Thank you for your honesty. I am truly sorry that this was your experience. The other guests we’ve had stay with us in the past year have expressed a love of the cabinesque feel and truly enjoyed their stay. I wish I could have done something sooner regarding the moths, I really do, but unfortunately wood homes have that issue in these parts (especially when warmer weather rolls around), and now that the professional sprayer was able to address that, it’s all taken care of. We have not had any guests express concern regarding the lack of air conditioning. It’s actually pretty rare for homes (especially older ones) in the Hills to have a whole house AC system. My husband and I actually lived in that cabin for 4 years year-round and had no window AC unit. Thank you for acknowledging the steady and consistent communication that we had and that check-in was a breeze. We did everything in our power to accommodate your concerns and wish there could have been an agreement come to. Our overall goal is to make a lovely getaway experience for Black Hills vacationers and regret that doesn’t seem to have been the case for your group.
