The host is lovely and provided some good advice about places to locate groceries and local places to visit. The house is beautiful and you can meet the neighbours just by sitting on the front porch. The local taco place, coffee shop, and bookstore are worth a visit or just wander around Algiers Point to see historic architecture, and take a walk on the levy for the history and jazz walks - good to meet locals with dogs. The local pubs are also worth a visit for the music and local beer. The bus takes you right into the middle of the city and is a cheap tour of the city - 5 minutes from the house. The ferry is great and lands you at the transport hub for the whole city - also 5-10 minutes from the house. We travelled to City Park and gardens, the French Quarter, along the river front, and the cemeteries. The house and the 7-day Jazzy Pass (public transport) were the best finds for us.

This fit our group perfectly. The house is spacious and comfortable and located in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood. The ferry is minutes away and offers the opportunity to see the city and sunset easily. Bruce, the host, is incredibly responsive and helpful. 10/10! My only regret is that we didn't stay longer. It was a great location. You can park your car and use the passenger ferry to other side to Bourbon street and other activities. Local eateries just around corner and down the street.

Hello! My name is Bruce. Welcome to New Orleans. I am a retired Chemical Engineer, who presently owns & operates The Junque Shop Antique Store in the Faugborg Marigny, at the base of world famous Frenchmen Street. I personally renovated my home in 2005-2006.

Why they chose this property

This is a Raised 'Shotgun' Double built in 1929, completely renovated in 2005-2006. It is located in historic Algiers Point, the second oldest settlement in New Orleans. It was built by a lumber yard owner. The walls are 6 inches thick & reinforced diagonally. The 2006 renovation opened the home to one living area upstairs.

What makes this property unique

My home is an economical alternative to the French Quarter, and yet is just a four block walk or drive to the Algiers/Canal Street Car/Passenger Ferry. Historic Algiers Point is a quiet alternative to the fast French Quarter pace, and yet close enough to enjoy the full benefits of the French Quarter and all of New Orleans.
