About this property
Crib house studio cabin - epic mountain views, .25mls to lake, quiet comfort!
Located at the foot of Mt Elbert and steps away from the upper lake in the heart of Twin Lakes village (pop. 201) and mere blocks from the upper lake in Twin Lakes - this cozy studio cabin with gorgeous views is perfect for one! You have sole access to your entire cabin and covered front deck facing the mountains, plus one private off-street parking spot.
We offer a supportive memory foam/coil Twin EXTRA LONG bed, a shower with hot water, electric heater, your own private off-street parking spot, plus covered deck with a mountain view, and extra space for your things.
AND: The covered front porch faces Twin Peaks and Mt Hope! Whether you decide to partake in one of the area's adventures (or just soak in the quiet beauty) stargazing + a cool mountain breeze await.
...WHAT'S A CRIB HOUSE!?
Originally, a western "Crib house" was attached to a larger Brothel that housed a shared space including a kitchen and other necessary amenities for people working there. This particular cabin now provides all the amenities a person would need in its own tiny space with an "old west vibe" (an antique crystal chandelier, mirrors with moose antlers, handmade details and fun oil painting to boot)!
This Crib house has an interesting back story: it was won in a card game in Leadville in the mid-1900s, and was then the winner (the owner of this property at the time) hauled it to Twin Lakes.
We love to host people from ALL BACKGROUNDS! ~(•‿•)→☆♡✧ our goal is for you to feel comfortable and enjoy your time here. Twin Lakes may be a small town but it is filled with many open-minded, kind people - we are inclusive and happy to welcome you here!
KITCHEN AREA:
Gas range and oven, copper kitchen sink, granite countertops (your space to prep dinner), half fridge and freezer perfect for one (see pics). All stainless pots and pans, toaster, coffee maker, and we supply pretty much any utensil you'd need to create a delicious meal. We also provide you with your own grilling utensils to use with a charcoal grill located on the patio.
DINING:
A handmade, sturdy, collapsible oak dining table large enough for two, with a wooden chair to match - tucked away but easily accessible. When the table is collapsed, you have more than enough floor space for even the most complex yoga poses. There is also a chair outside on the covered porch if you prefer to eat al fresco.
.75 BATH:
Shower for one (with hot water, of course), toilet, copper bathroom sink, shelving and drawers for your belongings.
SLEEPING:
An extra-long memory foam/coil hybrid mattress sits on a solid wood day trundle bed (big enough for lots of clothes and other belongings). The mattress and pillows are first zipped in to antimicrobial covers, then outfitted with crisp cotton sheets, then topped with blankets and comforter! Super comfy.
CHILLIN + AUXILIARY:
The XL twin solid wood day bed doubles as a sofa. It has a very supportive back and sides, then outfitted with pillows so you can sit up comfortably to read, or stream tv/movies on the 24" tv with Roku. There are shelves next to the front door for any extras you bring.
Dogs: PLEASE let us know if you are bringing a dog with you :D WE ALLOW ONE DOG AND ONE HUMAN, TOTAL.
WATER USAGE: Like everyone in town, we have to be judicious about our water use.
This is not an isolated cabin, please look up "Twin Lakes Village" for a better idea of what the tiny town is like. This town has a population of 201. It's very quiet, and unincorporated so it's pretty rustic, too.
If you are looking for total seclusion or a raucous party, this is not a space for you - please see map! It's in a tiny village surrounded by national forest, please keep it quiet as to not disturb other people or wildlife.
If you're looking for lots of luxury shopping: Vail, Aspenm and Breckenridge aren't far, but you won't find any designer stores in this town - there's a general store, an art gallery, small market, a visitors center, and food trucks all run by locals :)
We have a septic system and a (filtered) well, and water is especially PRECIOUS here. These cabins are also very close to the lakes and beaver habitats. We ask guests to please keep showers short to conserve water, or turn off the water while soaping up/shaving in the shower ;) we cannot allow visitors to shower in the cabin (like during a race weekend, or if they are camping nearby). A neighborhood mantra is "if it's yellow let it mellow" - many flushes and showers put a strain on both our well and our septic system. We could also lose our license if extra people outside of our licensed guests shower as it is part of our rental agreement with the county.
We offer reliable, high-speed WiFi that can handle screen activity (streaming, zoom, etc). If it were to ever have problems we are happy to help you find places that offer free, excellent WiFi close by for work, etc.
This cabin is only for one(1) person and one(1) dog. No other pets are allowed unless approved by hosts before guest arrival. More than 1 person sleeping or showering in this space is not allowed.

About the host
Hosted by B Wilhelm

We have lived in Colorado since 2015, and Twin Lakes since 2019. We started hosting here the summer of 2019. We love hosting, it's fun to share the cabins and our little town with people on vacation.
Our style of hosting is "attentive but unobtrusive" - we are available to you via the app or phone, and are usually staying in another cabin on the property. You may see us around working outside or with our puppy - feel free to wave, or ignore us, whatever! We won't ever approach your cabin unannounced unless there's an emergency (in which case we would have already communicated about it) or if you asked us! Basically we let the guests call the shots for interaction, it's your vacation! You can self-check in.
We have great reviews and ratings on airbnb (they say we are in the top 5% of homes: highly ranked based on ratings, reviews, and reliability). Giving VRBO a shot this year!

Why they chose this property
Apart from the gorgeous views, quiet, and lake access - we love that this place is somewhat "wild" in terms of the beautiful and unique flora and fauna. The wildflowers, aspen, and silver sagebrush are gorgeous, and I love seeing random herds of elk and antelope, and the occasional moose.
Twin Lakes has a laid-back, rustic "Wild West" spirit, which is a rare thing for Colorado nowadays. We like that we are in a town and don't live in a completely remote location, but it's very quiet and people respect wildlife here.
Everyone that lives here loves it, it's a positive place with friendly people that enjoy the quiet but will wave without hesitation. Twin Lakes has a lot of repeat visitors.
We like that our town is small but we have access to larger towns/small cities like Buena Vista, Aspen, Leadville, Breckenridge, Vail, Salida, and more in 30-60 minutes (or less).
I also love the weather here. It's typically very sunny but rarely gets warmer than 80 degrees F in the height of summer (cooler in the shade) - no one here needs/has a/c. We do supply heat when it gets chilly at night!

What makes this property unique
The historic but updated cabin in itself is very unique and fun!

This particular cabin now provides all the amenities a person would need in its own tiny space with an "old west vibe" (an antique crystal chandelier, mirrors with moose antlers, handmade details and a fun oil painting)!
We love the views, the lake access and variety of trails walking distance from our cabin, and we put a lot of care into the space (I sleep in the cabin every few weeks to make sure everything is how I want it, bed is comfy, etc). Everything has a place and I love that about this little Crib House!
