About this property
Unique and Marvelous Hideaway with the Cosmic Energy of Crestone!
Our unique Crestone Hideaway Home is available for you to experience the cosmic vibe of Crestone & the San Luis Valley. Our home is designed and outfitted with recycled, upcycled, & reimagined materials - which all contribute to the very off-beat comfort of our home.
We offer full use of our quirky adobe & stucco home. Once you confirm your reservation, you will have sole use of our Hideaway home during your stay.
Built from straw bale and traditional framing we have a comfy living area, 2 bedrooms, 1 full bath, fully appointed kitchen, dining room for 4+, & a huge outdoor deck made from football bleachers. We also feature not-quite-plumb walls, church pews, tree trunks, boulders, antique doors - a truly home-grown design.
The off-grid life is special by cutting out the noise of on-grid living. Our ranch is fully powered by solar (& back-up generator). We also have hi-speed wifi. Off-grid does not mean out of touch; our goal is to mitigate human impact on the natural environment. We do not skimp on amenities and comfort. We love sharing the peaceful quiet laid-back lifestyle of the Crestone area.
The master bedroom offers a queen bed, beautiful mountain view, wood-burning stove, spacious sitting area, self-serve coffee and tea service, and opportunity for rejuvenating & relaxing.
The front bedroom has a front row seat & direct access to the deck and the Sangre de Cristo mountains just through the french doors. It has a full bed and a single trundle which is perfect for children and youth. If you have a different need to accommodate your family/group, please reach out to us!
We're in the International Dark Sky community. The stars are magnificent without the light pollution we don't realize is limiting our views in the cities. You will be amazed by the vast expanse of the universe.
The Great Sand Dunes National Park - the tallest and most amazing sand dunes in North America - are visible from almost everywhere on our property. Look to the south to see this alternate view of the north side of the Dunes. Plan to make a day-trip to the Dunes! Don't forget about the Ziggurat (it's visible from our deck too).
We are also close to several natural hot springs resorts with both family friendly, adults-only (with adult drinks), and clothing optional locations. And the choices for hiking are too numerous to list.
The nearby town of Crestone is quaint and delightful with a history museum, an art cooperative, at least two restaurants, two grocery stores, a liquor store, post office, a bank, a hardware store, a gas station, and no stop lights. Any traffic jams are caused by the herds of deer that wander through town.
Our Hideaway truly offers a taste of a very off-beat heaven on Earth.

About the host
Hosted by Gail
We are native / near native to Colorado. Michael is 3rd generation Denverite and Gail’s grandfather was born not far from Crestone. We love Colorado and everything it offers.
We especially love our Hideaway home near the town of Crestone where we come to get away from it all. The San Luis Valley is a truly unique part of the world. It is a designated International Dark Sky community meaning the stars shine brighter here than almost anywhere else in North America
We hope you enjoy your time here as much as we do!

Why they chose this property
Crestone is a very special and spiritually cosmic location. Crestone is in the San Luis Valley, one of the biggest high desert valleys in North America. We are surrounded by 14,000 foot peaks and mountain ranges just outside our front door.
The area where our home is located is known as the Baca Grande or “The Baca”. Our home is in The Grants part of The Baca. Here, we are completely off-grid but that doesn’t mean we are out of touch.
Most residents here, including us, have a complete solar system that powers our entire household, well water (tested annually with very clear results), septic system, and we also have wifi. We take care of our environment as best we can with the resources available to us.
The area is sparsely populated compared to cities and towns. It is rural here in the desert. Our closest neighbor is about 1/4 mile away. Most of the homes here sit on at least 3 acres. Our nearest neighbors have 15+ acres. There is definitely room to breath!
When the sun goes down you will quickly notice how dark it gets. There are no outdoor lights (or at least close to none). The skies are clear most of the time revealing the incredible Milky Way galaxy overhead during the summer and brilliant planets and stars all year ‘round.
Crestone is widely acknowledged as the most spiritual place in the world. There are many stories of the indigenous native peoples coming here for rituals and observations. Today, the Crestone and Baca are home to about 23 religious groups and retreat centers. We especially appreciate attendees of these retreats.

What makes this property unique
We personally rehabilitated our Crestone Hideaway from an abandoned shell of a house and a junk filled property to what it is today: a beautiful and unique home rebuilt with recycled, reused, up-cycled, and reimagined materials. It is a lovely off-beat retreat that offers the full comforts you expect from full service hotels.
We have a local host who lives very close. She is available to assist you with any and all questions you may have. Michael and I are available via text at all times.
We offer use of two bedrooms with a spacious master bedroom where you’ll have a comfortable queen bed and a second bedroom with a magnificent view of the two Crestone 14-ers. The 2nd bedroom contains a full-size bed and a single size trundle bed.
While our dogs are not allowed on the furniture, we know that not everyone has that rule. Please make sure to bring a towel or blanket for your pups to sleep on the bed or furniture.
Should you need additional beds, we have a second trundle and a single size pullout sofa. We need advanced notice if you need the extra space.
The rest of our home contains a living room with a wall of windows to the mountain ranges. And the kitchen has everything you will need for your delicious meals: cookware, utensils, dishes, refrigerator, and oven. We have a dishwasher too.
The south and east-facing deck is huge with enough space for a seating area and an eating area. There is also a 5-burner gas grill for your use too.
Our previous guests have shared that the Hideaway is the perfect place for a relaxing and beautiful get-away. They have highlighted the deck for evening togetherness and the views are amazing.
We hope your trip here is even more than you expect!
