About this property
Loon Cove Alton Bay Lake House
Escape to a lakeside retreat on Lake Winnipesaukee in Alton Bay, NH! This charming lakefront home is nestled on a scenic sandbar, just steps across a private dirt road from the waterfront. Enjoy your own private dock (with boat access) and boathouse with beautiful views of both the lake and the White Mountains nestled in the background.
With 2 cozy bedrooms (one featuring a queen bed, and one a full bed), a living room couch (with pull out bed), and a full bathroom, this home can comfortably accommodate up to six guests. This stay also features a fully equipped kitchen with a dual oven, stove, microwave, full fridge, and more.
Spend your days relaxing on the large dock, or settle down in the cozy boathouse. The home comes equipped with a canoe and paddleboard for exploring the pristine waters of Lake Winnipesaukee. Also, with a shallow sandbar extending over a hundred feet from the dock, enjoy wading or floating in the refreshing water during the hot Summer months. Whether you’re into fishing, swimming, boating, or just soaking up the stunning views, this spot has it all!
After a day of adventure, unwind on the patio by the house with comfortable outdoor seating (including an outdoor picnic table), fire pit, and gas grill for all to enjoy. The peaceful surroundings and the beautiful White Mountains viewable from the property and the dock make this the ultimate spot to enjoy with family or friends.
To access the lake, walk across the private dirt road directly in front of the house and take the staircase down to the dock and boathouse. Please note that although this is a private dock, neighbors are nearby on both sides. Please be conscious of neighbors when on the dock or in the water. In addition, although wading around the sandbar is allowed, please be conscious of boaters coming in and out of the channel.
Guests can access the whole property. This includes the house and the adjourning deck and patio out in front of the house overlooking the lake. Guests can then take the stairs down to the driveway, walk to the end of the driveway, and cross the private road to find the staircase down to the private dock and boathouse.
Feel free to take full advantage of the dock and the boat house for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, or just relaxing. You can bring your own boat and tie up to the dock as well (please message me with specs of your boat and I can let you know if there will be any issues as the water can get shallow depending on time of year). There is a canoe up by the end of the driveway for use, as well as a paddleboard in the boat house. Again, just be careful of other boaters in the channel when enjoying the sandbar.
Please note that there are granite stairs to access the house from the driveway and then a wooden staircase to get down to the dock from the driveway. This property may not be optimal for those with strollers or physical disabilities. Please reach out to me if any issues arise during your stay. I am not too far away if anything urgent is needed.

About the host
Hosted by Ryan Gibbons

I am originally from the South Shore of Massachusetts, now living in Southern New Hampshire. I enjoy golfing, spending time on the lake, and enjoying winter sports in the White Mountains. I thoroughly enjoy hosting in the Lakes Region due to the abundance of activities that can be found in the area.
Why they chose this property
We chose Alton Bay because it truly captures the magic of Lake Winnipesaukee. Nestled on a quiet sandbar with views of both the lake and the White Mountains, it feels like a hidden gem—peaceful, laid-back, and naturally beautiful. The private dock, calm waters, and gentle sandbar make it the perfect spot for swimming, paddling, or just floating in the sun.
What we love most is the mix of seclusion and convenience—you can relax by the fire pit under the stars or head into town in minutes for ice cream, local shops, or a bite to eat. There’s a real sense of community here, especially on summer evenings when boats cruise by and neighbors wave from their docks.
It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and we fell in love with that from day one.

What makes this property unique
What sets our property apart is its location and experience—you're not just staying by the lake, you're on the lake. The house sits just steps across a private dirt road from a scenic sandbar, with your own dock and boathouse offering uninterrupted access to the water. Unlike many other properties, you can canoe, paddleboard, or even wade hundreds of feet into the lake right from the dock thanks to the shallow, sandy stretch.
The boathouse is a rare bonus—it’s not just a place to store gear, it’s a cozy spot to relax with a view. Add in the backdrop of the White Mountains, and you’ve got postcard-perfect scenery all day long.
Plus, the setup is perfect for groups: the home is cozy but flexible, with a full kitchen, fire pit, gas grill, and both indoor and outdoor gathering spaces. It’s that blend of charm, privacy, and natural beauty that makes it such a special escape.
