Great from start to finish. Check-in/out, and communication with the host was immediate. Loved the whole house, but the view, fireplace, privacy, and hot tub set it apart from others. Maggie Valley is a beautiful little town. You can’t go wrong with this VRBO.
We took our kids here for our family vacation and it was so much fun! We were close to lots of fun activities, including White water rafting, hiking, shopping, Asheville, restaurants and more! We will definitely be back soon!
Everything was just as described! The pictures were 100% accurate and the views... gorgeous 😍 We did not want to leave and if we could have, we would have extended our stay!! We will definitely be back!! Beautiful!!
The pictures perfectly represented the property. The view of the valley was breathtaking, we would love to come back and see the fall colors. The house was great for the three of us. We loved the hot tub and using the fireplace each evening. It was very relaxing, it felt like we were by ourselves on the mountainside.
House is cute and comfortable. View is amazing and our host was terrific. Initial ride up to house was a challenge for Florida people, but afterwards not a problem. We spent a month watching the ever changing views and did not want to leave.
The Hawk's Nest's amazing 5-star view of Maggie Valley is only the beginning of the story. Very comfortable living spaces, a well-appointed kitchen, a cozy fireplace, and a hot tub (with a view!) that was perfect after a long day of hiking in the National Park. Joel was a gracious and very responsive host. The only challenge was driving the steep, winding, sometime gravel road up to the cabin. While our regular car did just fine once we got the hang of it, an all-wheel drive vehicle would have been preferable. All-in-all, a fabulous stay!
Perfect, peaceful location with great views! I was concerned about not having AC being menopausal, however it was surpsingly cool especially for it being June! The hot tub was great with fantastic views! All in all very relaxing! Even with following all of the directions for the coffeemaker it still did not work well for me. Also had some issues with the remotes for the TV and DVD player. But I would definitely choose to stay here again!
All in all it was a great home. Just a few issues at the beginning. The water was turned off outside, so we had no water. I called Hunter and he gave us instructions on how to turn it on. We weren’t given the WiFi password either so we had to make another call. The house was cozy, and we loved the outdoor fire pit. The hot tub worked fine but it was a little old and worn. The view was amazing, it was a great week!

Hello Shelley, Thank you for taking the time to review our property. This helps potential renters make a decision about where to stay and also help us, as owners know what we can improve upon. We are sincerely sorry you had to take time out of your stay to contact our property manager Hunter Gardner not once, but twice about him forgetting to turn the water freeze valve on outside and not giving you the internet code upon arrival. We will be contacting him to make sure this does not happen in the future and make sure he steps up his management of the property. It is unacceptable, and part of his job. We are doing some additional upgrades this year and would like to invite you to stay again with us. Thank you again for bringing these things to our attention. We strive to make your vacation a memorable experience and hope you will stay with us again, and also tell your friends and family about our place. If you have any further suggestions and could help us improve with our property management please do not hesitate to contact us direct ...we would love to hear from you. Thank you again for choosing our little piece of Maggie Valley to make your vacation stay. Sincerely, Christine and Joel Wallace

The property was very nice. It is a very comfortable, clean home with a view to truly die for.
Kitchen should be reorganize between renters and good luck figuring out the coffee pot. Hot tub was nice but found it low on water and chemicals.
The worst issue is the driveway, beware! It was fine for most of the week but once another group came to stay at another property the road got very torn up. I feel if you are going to run a business the road should be paved to make it safer for renters. Definitely need a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
Overall had a great time!

Thank you for your response and review. I'll try to address all your comments. The kitchen is organized after each check out. It may not be organized like your kitchen at home, but you have the option to place things where you would like them during your stay. The coffee pot has a large laminated instruction manual placed right beside it and works like most Keurig and standard coffee pots on the market. You also have the option to call out property manager at any time to help guide you through the process. The property manager was not contacted for help. We did find a slow leak in the hot tub and it has been addressed. The driveway is like any mountain home, usually pretty steep and gravel. The reason these are not paved is because paved roads tend to ice in the winter and prevent access. Gravel roads have more traction in icy conditions. I think you did what we warned about in our "driving directions" we provide before arrival. That is, stopping going uphill or not keeping forward momentum can get you stuck. Here is a copy of those directions taken from our pre arrival info email you received : Driving Instructions: The drive is a fairly steep incline so it is recommended you manually put your car in the lowest gear (1st 2nd) or 4 wheel drive low. Two wheel drive vehicles can make it fine in lower gears. Just take your time and watch for oncoming traffic, wild life, and people walking. If you meet an approaching car on a narrow roadway, the vehicle that is closer to a safe place to pull over or driveway to pull into must merge and give the vehicle without this option the right of way. If you are towing a trailer, We would not recommend anything larger than a 4X8 open trailer, unless you have a large 4 wheel drive. The turn around area is limited and larger trailers could be a problem. Talk directly to the property owner if you are pulling any size trailer before attempting. When leaving the cabin keep your car in low gear or second and get some momentum to get up the steep gravel drive. "Do not stop going uphill" on steep gravel inclines anywhere unless absolutely necessary, or you will spin your tires or run the risk of getting stuck. It also tears up the roadway and driveway. After that, it is all downhill. Our property was booked solid the entire season and unfortunately you were the only guest to get stuck. We have a HOA and do our best to keep roads and drives in the best condition between rain, snow and some bad drivers.

Newly renovated and awesome views
I stay in Maggie Valley every Fall. So, I have experienced several different homes and areas to stay in. This home was the combination of the best of all the properties I've stayed at. It's less than 5 minutes to the main highway, yet still secluded with an amazing view. It's smaller than most of the homes with this type of view, but still has two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The gas fireplace was nice for an instant fire and heat worked great. The only two things that I would note is that both bedrooms and bathrooms are upstairs and one of the days I was there it was in the 70's and starting to get warm inside and I didn't see that the home has air conditioning just in case you are considering a summer trip. Maybe I overlooked that, but I couldn't find it.
Hunter was the property manager and was very helpful.
We stayed four weeks at Hawk's Nest!! We've been missing the beautiful view ever since leaving! This was a really great place to stay if you like privacy, cool weather, great views and a cozy place to stay. The kitchen and appliances were very nice. The drive in and out is pretty steep and included a gravel driveway. This is normal for this area and actually the road in was not as bad as some we have stayed at. Still all wheel drive is nice to have even in the summer. Despite being up high in elevation and remote, you can be in town in just a few minutes. Lots of great family owned restaurants in Maggie Valley and Waynesville to visit. We went to the Wheels Through Time museum and it is amazing. The property manager was really great! We had an issue with the internet and they immediately called the provider to get it fixed. They had the speed doubled at the same time. Keep in mind this is a mountain home so internet is not screaming fast, but it worked well for us with only two users. One final note is there are bears around - which is really cool. We had a little bear roaming through one day. He was not a nuisance and ran off as soon as we yelled at him! Still it was great to actually see a bear!
Great place to stay. This was our 2nd time, 1st time being 18 years ago!
Great place to stay. This was our 2nd time, 1st being 18 years ago. It has been refreshed nicely since then with new wallpaper and decor. Very nice fireplace, hot tub and views.
This place is a gem hidden on a side of the mountain! The place is very nice and confortable. It was clean with the beautiful mountain view. You must follow the directions that they give you as GPS will get you lost. Owners make you feel welcome with small details like a complementary wine and coffee. We'll come back soon!
Very nice cabin, clean and has a beautiful views; it is located in a quiet area. We enjoyed the breakfast every morning watching the town and the mountains and also enjoyed the hot tub at the end of the day. When we arrived, we couldn’t find the place because we followed the gps, my advice is to put as a final destination “Soco Rd and Dogwood Rd” from there follow carefully the directions you will get from Joel, the owner, he was very kind, helpful and answered all my phone calls. We had a very good time.
Absolutely wonderful house with such a beautiful view! Our stay was easy and the owner gave clear instructions on how to get there! Everything was perfect - highly recommend
Cabin was as shown in pictures. Everything you need is there, just bring your food. Beautiful view of Maggie Valley. Road up to cabin definitely requires your attention. The wet leaves also were a bit of a driving challenge. Aside from that, a great stay.
Very easy, well described, and smooth experience and would stay there again!

About the host
Hosted by Joel S. Wallace
I am a native of Laurel, MS and have lived in Santa Rosa beach, FL since 1983 where I met my lovely wife. My wife and I found this private hideaway while on a business trip and fell in love with this area. We are both blessed and honored to be able to share this slice of paradise with you all.
Why they chose this property
We live in a tourist town in Florida and it always seemed like we were on a treadmill. When we first visited Maggie Valley we felt as though time stood still and the world moved by at a slower pace. It was just the medicine we were looking for to escape the rat race and re discover God's creations and the simple life.
What makes this property unique
I grew up on a large farm and always enjoyed being in the woods surrounded by nature. This was the perfect spot away from it all. Nature is everywhere around this cabin and if you have an adventurous spirit you will always find a path less traveled here.
