About the host
Hosted by Ramona Hodges
In 1989, my husband, Ed, and I, realized a dream to build a cabin in Lake Tahoe. Ed taught science and Math at a Middle school for 38 years and I worked as an RN at a local hospital for 40 years. We have lived in San Jose for over 50 years & have 3 grown children, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. We are a very close family and enjoy spending time together. Our family has had many memorable times together at the cabin; skiing, playing games, sharing meals, hiking, biking, swimming, and so much more.
Why they chose this property
We had always wanted a vacation home; a place to 'get-away' and find serenity amid the natural beauty of our earth. So, one day, when the opportunity arose to buy property in the Chamberlands, a premier subdivision on the Westshore, we jumped at the chance to realize our dream. We worked with a local contractor to plan and build our vacation cabin and are grateful to realize our dream.
What makes this property unique
We love our cabin for the peace, fun, warmth and beauty it provides. In the summer we enjoy walking in the Chamberlands, and to the beach. We love sitting on our deck, barbecuing, playing games and sharing time and love with our family and friends. We enjoy eating breakfast at the Firesign Cafe and dinner at the Sunnyside restaurant as well as other lakeside restaurants nearby and in Tahoe City. We like to drive to Virginia City and visit the historic sights. My husband likes to go to Cabelas on Highway 80, a 45 minute drive, and I like to gamble occasionally at the nearby Casinos. We never tire of visiting beautiful places such as Emerald Bay, Eagle Lake & nearby Erhman Mansion. Our family & friends also enjoy everything the Lake has to offer; biking, hiking, boating, fishing, skiing, gambling, shopping and so on.. One of my favorite things to do is to make needlepoint, embroidered and crocheted art work for the cabin which, in my opinion, just adds to its charm. My husband likes to build things that make our life and our guests lives easier and more fun such as: a giant swing and horse shoe pit in the backyard and a covered firewood shed close to the cabin making it convenient to get wood for the fireplace in the winter. Our children love to ski and snowboard and appreciate the convenience of driving such a short distance to several ski resorts.
